i need to redo it anyway. I realized I needed one more shaveice for the paladin battle in farmtown (i can do 8 pts of damage at most with an attack). This time, I will buy it in the dream world rather than guntz edit : using a shave ice (from the moment the text rises to the moment of the next turn) uses nearly 400 frames less than getting the best knuckles available (in a treasure chest in higfort)

i know... I manipulated as best as I could. Usin s boom uses less frames. however, because i didn't '' turn in circles'' to get my level higher, my main character is a little slow; he can't attack before the leeches

if you think i'm cruel with uparupas, wait till you see what I do with the monkey... http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/995241280/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv finally out of the fat bitch's body. that has got to be the most tedious quest for a speedrun. fortunately, there are fat cells...

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1511394902/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv fresh out of the monkey castle. I manipulated it enough to have only 3 random fights instead of four

I WILL catch it; however, I'm still looking for the ideal way to die. I can't have proper enemies to kill me after the uparupa battle. the sireen only cast tornado :x
and time I might lose early might be partially made back later on-ish
i do plan to visit monster isle, but after I get the bird. the whale is sooo slow. And I don't know if I will chase the golden sludges

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/863482171/Breath%20of%20Fire%20II%20%28U%29.smv another 3778 less frames. I know, the witch fight is longer; that's because I couldn't get Katt high enough to make 38 damages. However, I got that 400 frames back; you won't believe how lucky I got in the blue roach trial!! With respect to atma's run (when he first got on the whale), the run has 38926 less frames

I am now up to capturing the food in simafort. I have roughly 3000k frames less than the previous run. WHich means I have... 21k frames less than my very first wip!

if you want the precise advance I have, check at the very moment we get on the whale. Because you go get Bleu and on monster Island right after you get the whale, our quests diverge. When I got to the queen's body, I think i had 100k frames less

It happened. I was able to save 900 frames at the HArpy fight By pressing turbo A during battle dialogue (harpy, Dir-H, Katt...), the enemy acts more quickly

Also, when possible, enter and exit a room right away to avoid battles. It worked on mt maori

tricks for shorter runs 1) calculate exactly of much damage is caused to bosses. That's how I saved so much, starting with the joker 1.1) know how much HP a boss has. This way, I need fewer round, since I manipulate Katt (mostly) to do the required amount of damage with chopchop in the first round 1.2) Avoiding a hit rather than feeling it saves frames also 2) For some reason, during Terapin, I yielded more critical attacks from ryu when I pressed/didn't press (depends) turbo A when Terrapin controled a character 3) of course, killing useless characters as soon as possible is useful. I have no use for monkeys who have no magic left. 4) avoid using R and L. Rather, go to a place where you can change your characters and put the ones you do need in front (rand for rolling, sten to grab poles, spar to talk to trees...) 5) experiments as to when a battle occurs. I never had a single battle inside the uparupa cave; I only had 3 inside highfort. For my run, I was extremely lucky. I don't think someone can use fewer frames around the blue roached. I did notice that I should have shopped only once in simafort, but getting around the roaches actually used more frames... Also, I used a few of your strategies i hadn't noticed earlier : « exit » the whale, escape battles at the entrance of the witch tower

hello I'm doing a breath of fire II run. I realized my restart of the run is only better up to a point; after that, the previous one is better. Reading the hex FAQ made me confused. I used XVI 32, and all I see is a bunch of 0 and 8 and 2... Help!

I didn't know TAS were so long... And I didn't know I would find new ways to save frames. I was able to complete the fight against Terapin in less than 8500 frames!! It must be at least the 5th time that I have to restart such a long way

i only needed to talk to one. However, getting her right when you get the whale is frame-consuming. i'd rather be at to highfort because it's in the same neighbourhood. But would it be better before or after? PS: i restarted my run. I was able to same 300 frames by manipulating the battles at the beginning of the witch tower EDIT: when doing the frame advance in battlefields, when should I provoke a battle? I usually do it when I need to wait more than 2 frames

I solbed my problem and got her right after highfort. There's a way to roll around the mountains south of the thieves tomb. I will post another version of my run after I get in the queen's body

True, the dragon is quicker... But then, if one is to avoid « easy » tricks, what can make the game quicker? FF6 has critical-hit-when-near-death, which can end battles without joker doom. But for most games, only level building (even with the mightiest weapon) can make enough damage to get around using easy trick...

I just got out of Highfort. Because I died inside (1st torubo battle), i can't warp back to tuneland. My question : how soon sould I get Bleu? Since she already has warp, this spell can sometimes be quicker than death...

I am trying a Breath of Fire II TAS (likely to jump to BOF I afterwards). Although my run is indeed very fast, some think it lacks entertainment because I « overuse» dragons. They point out at FF6, where the author same a lot of time using an instant death trick. However, I intend to show some hidden things like Bleu and Karn and Bow At what point does speed cut on enternainment?

Now (outside of the obvious "he's still named "A"" thing), the only real things I noticed this time around was that you seem to be going entirely for speed, not really sacrificing any time for better weapons for fights, and mostly going for mostly dragon usage battles, and always the same dragon at that (no variety I say).
The game isn't over yet; I can use more dragons later ;)
That and this time you completely skipped getting the WiseBL, which I'd say would be a somewhat costly mistake later on.
I can still cook it. And I probably get 2 or 3 at the same time
Somewhat unrelated to your run: I'd say my mid-endgame on BoF 2 would've been easily improvable had I not more or less gone out of my way to avoid using the dragon more or less exclusively for all the (boss) battles after I got them. I went with physical attacks and such more often simply because they gave better visual variety than seeing the same attack over and over again. Repetitive usage of attacks in a game this long is one of the factors that can kill entertainment. It might be the fastest way, but it isn't always the most entertaining.
mmm... speed or entertainment. The run with joker doom in FF6 did get approved; can't a similar one get approved too if it saves time?
