So with the help of an old lua script I got from the sonic speedrun discord server I was able to figure out what the signpost monitors in Knuckles' Angel Island Act 2 boss area are. Here's a screenshot. Now my main concern comes with that ring monitor. It's pretty much impossible to get but it's still a part of the base game just like any other ring monitor, so I was wondering if it should be included in the ring attack submission text.

Thank you for those beautiful words. This was a fun and satisfying project to work on and I couldn't have asked for a better partner than Evil_3D. YogWog you contributed all you could to this project. Don't forget that you're the one who introduced the concept of this run. Don't worry about AIZ2. I've confirmed it's absolutely impossible to get any more rings unless we somehow get rid of the death boundary. Besides do you know how many precise tricks I had to do in that last iteration? I'd have to be out of my mind to even consider redoing it again lol. Since I've taken a vacation I'm kinda hype about redoing MGZ and CNZ. Evil is doing both Act 1's and I'm doing both Act 2's.

Sorry for the late reply but I just have to say this is amazing. Well done Zurggriff!

Wow that's impressive. I knew you'd be able to improve it better than I would've.

Don't worry about it. I only told you not to do it to save yourself the trouble. Plus what I'm thinking about doing isn't gaurenteed to work so it might be good that you did it anyways. I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. When Sonic got sent up top I was gonna manipulate Tails to spawn there which would allow him to gain control sooner than Sonic.

Interesting. I did not know you could apply that in other parts of the game. In Sonic classic heroes I've learned that you can register the start input (and possibly others) every frame using multiple players. @Evil_3D, Thank you for showing us how to change the checksum for specific hacks. It will definitely be useful in the future. What program did you use to open the romcheck file?

As I remember, things are even more complicated inside, marzojr told me once, but I already forgot the exact mechanism. Anyway, this leaves some space for an extra micro-optimization: you can use [<>] instead of [<] for braking, as many times, as it doesn’t make your braking a frame longer. You’ll gain some extra subpixels for free. It’s also useful for positioning :)
Oh yeah I already knew about that for quite a while now. Using <> to brake subtracts 116 (128-12) speed. I usually try to get as close to 267 (or 128 for S3 objects and S2) as I can when I'm gonna charge a spindash. Gets me a few pixels ahead which is nice. I've learned a lot in the time I was tasing. Like pressing <^ while at 128 speed to look up a frame sooner, or microzipping by pushing against a wall and then jumping which is an essential movement tech for Sonic 1 tasing (I've also used it once in the S3K run in LBZ2). It's little details like this that make all the difference.

Hey Marzo. After Sonic Classic Heroes gets updated are you gonna consider getting the Sonic tasing tools to work with it?

Here's more information on general game mechanics if you guys are interested http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/Genesis/SonicTheHedgehog.html Here's one note regarding spin-dashing in Sonic 3. You actually need to have less than 268 speed to be able to crouch. I'm pretty sure it is written as 256 in the game's code but the game registers the input as you going neutral for a frame (-12 speed) and then checks for if you can crouch. @Asumeh, why would you be sorry? I'm on vacation you doof :p Also if you're interested I already presented a solution for getting the Sonic HUD to work for unsupported Sonic 1 hacks. @WST, I really would love to watch but I can't for the same reason I can't tas. I don't have my own pc here.

Well whatever you want to do with DDZ is up to you. That was merely a suggestion. As for DEZ1. You can get rid of the lightning shield like I did in the testrun because the insta-shield is better for the start of Act 2. Also I might be able to save some ingame time in Act 2 if we forgo the death transition skip.

I would try to improve it but like I said in the S3K thread I'm unable to do any tasing for the next 3ish weeks. That tas does indeed look improvable. For one you didn't even do basic Sonic 1 movement at the start of every level which is hold <> for one frame to instantly gain 128 speed and then jump (you accelerate twice as fast in the air).

Oh here’s that testrun. Link to video Actually I was gonna suggest for you to do it anyways. I haven’t spotted as many improvements as I would like so you’ll probably improve it more. Tell you what. Why don’t you do DEZ1 and make another gmv to tas DDZ. When I get back I’ll do DEZ2 and paste in DDZ.

9 seconds saved in Sky Sanctuary. That’s very impressive.

Yeah. This was a very fun Experience. Thank you for letting me participate in this project Evil. So I’m gonna be the one to tas DEZ1 which is great. Undortunatly I’m gonna be out of country for the next 3 weeks. I won’t be able to do any tasing until I get back home. I’m sorry for delaying the project like that Evil.

Thank you! but I rarely uses Sonic hud..
Ah I remember when I used to be just like that. Then I realized the HUD is very useful for fine tuning your movement and made it a lot easier for me to tell if certain tricks really are faster. I’d highly recommend you get accustommed to using it. Also wow a lot of new tasers in a short amount of time. Welcome to TASvideos Asumeh. I hope you enjoy your time here.

TwitTas and matheusbrancobs, here's a modified version of the romcheck file for the Sonic hud. This will allow the hud to work with some unsupported Sonic 1 hacks. Make sure you make a copy of the original unmodified romcheck file so that you can swap between the 2 (the modified file causes the hud to not work with non Sonic 1 roms). http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=1581566

oh yes, thank you kaan55! I got it, now I can play with Sonic and Tails :)
Hey no problem. Track recording is probably the most important tool for making a multiplayer run but it's not readily obvious. Are you planning on making a 2 player run?

btw thanks for receiving me here at TASvideos (got started in 2017on my other channel)
Oh you wanna become a sonic taser? In that case welcome to TASvideos. We hope you enjoy your time here. I've watched some of your other tases. Yeah you have a lot to learn, but we are willing to help you. I would give you some tips but I don't have enough time right now. I made an improved run of Act 1 in Sonic 1 ZX http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/61994963/Sonic%2520The%2520Hedgehog%2520ZX%2520-%2520kaan55sadafsadfaf.gmv

Does this Lua HUD (along with the camera hack and solidity display versions of Gens rerecording) work with Shadow in Sonic 1?
I haven't played with that hack personally, but this is something you can easily test yourself. Camhack and hitbox display usually works with romhacks. Solidity display sometimes works. The Sonic hud doesn't work unless you've modified the checksum. Since that's a Sonic 1 hack I can get it to work for you.

Would this work with 3 players?
Yes. There is a keybind for player 3 track recording, but you have to set one of the controller ports to teamplayer to actually be able to use 3 players. Then you just use 1-B for player 2 (teamplayer disables the other controller port) and 1-C for player 3. Make sure you configure everything before you start recording a new movie.

Hey no problem. We love seeing a new face here :) You wanna start by going into your input options and binding the player track recording keys. What those do is save the inputs of the respective player and play them back when you load an earlier savestate. Then you just record the other player.

I decided to do a short test with Sonic Classic Heroes to see how I can handle controlling 3 players. I was originally gonna tas the whole level but I decided not to continue. None of the tools seem to work with this hack which means I won't really be able to make a tas I'll be fully satisfied with and it's a general pain to work with right now :p Link to video

Even if the movie will be really "optimized" I think the "Team Super Sonic" goal will be rejected, to access to this feature you need to enter a cheat code right? Normally this is not accepted here.
I mean in the context of doing an NG+ run I think it would be allowed.

I hope you're not comparing TAStimes and instead the run itself: This one -> 27:07.95 Previous one -> 27:47.85 (If you're comparing by TAStime.)
Oh wait I goofed. For some reason I thought a minute's worth of frames was 6000 instead of 3600 so I thought the time was 29 something :p

So on top of not addressing any of the issues from the previous submission, this run appears to be slower than the previous submission. I honestly don't know what to say. This is just sad. I'm actually tempted to make a tas of this romhack just to show you how it's done.

Hello and welcome to TASVideos! I can't wait to see what you have in store for us. You're tases are already pretty good. You might be able to participate in a serious project sooner than you think. If you have any questions just feel free to ask any of us. We'll be happy to help.

We are still working on it don't worry. Evil asked me via pm to do the main level for LRZ2 because he was preoccupied like he said above. I already have like 47 seconds of it done. Just keep in mind that it is kind of a long level (mostly because we can't skip the boss) so it will take a while.
