Yeah, I discovered I was using a wrong version of x264. With that fixed I was able to do the encode, but there still seems to be something wrong. http://www.mediafire.com/?4fmpc3o9s9ywg48 There are definitely some issues with some of the colors. I will run the encode again and capture the output, but I'm pretty sure I followed the hybrid script exactly. Edit: Here is the encode output, not that I'm sure it helps. http://slexy.org/view/s21EKui8N9

I saw that Brandon updated the Hybrid script to include 10bit444, however, AviSynth does not support higher bit-depth by default and the hybrid script makes no mention of how to convert. The AviSynth wiki page on the topic is: http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/High_bit-depth_Support_with_Avisynth. Per chat discussion, maybe 10bit444 should not be encoded using AviSynth? For those of us who are amateur encoders, I don't want to produce a crappy result if I can't do it correctly.

Less than 50 left and so far no sign of Maniac Mansion.

Just wanted to mention that it might be a good idea to link this script somewhere on the encoding guide, maybe on the front page. I missed some of the updates to the script because I didn't know to check. I admit that I should probably check these forums more often, but speaking as an amateur encoder, it is easy to miss stuff if you are not checking all the time.

I agree. I'll be checking this everyday. Love the review comments as well. They point out many things I probably would overlook while listening.

Just watched this video and thought it was great. A very nice encode feos. The only comment I would make is that I would prefer the tasvideos URL to be in the upper or lower right corner. This game uses the 2 screens as 1 and having both screens put together would look good imo.

I have re-encoded this movie to fix subtitle issues. The archive.org link is now updated. The new youtube link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Od6w65udzo

Based on feedback I got on the IRC channel, I have uploaded an updated encode to youtube. Please update the link accordingly. The updated video changes when and how the subtitles appear to make them more readable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhoQjihfVnA

I have an interest in learning to encode videos correctly in HD. I'm a long time lurker and have recently been making Dragon Quest videos for my YouTube channel. However, the HD vids from this site put all my videos to shame! I will be hanging around the IRC channel so feel free to give me a shout. I would be happy to help out if I knew what to do. www.youtube.com/darkmurkrow Edit: Just found my way to the encoding guide on the site. You'd think I would know better having been around for 8 years. Sorry for being such a noob. ;)

Super Bounce! If you haven't seen it, there is now an SDA run of this game which clocks in at around 6 hours. http://speeddemosarchive.com/DragonWarrior4.html They abuse the Sword of the Lethargy on everything to put it to sleep. Who knew you could use it on bosses too? I can't remember if that was ever discussed in the past. I remember that the Aeolus Shield was too tough to get, but you can buy a Sword of Lethargy in Stancia. Anyway, just thought I would log that in case someone does a run again someday.

I think you mean Cannock, and the guide you are looking for is here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/nes/587248-dragon-warrior-ii/faqs/55791

Yes, any kind of bait can catch a treasure box, but some bait sinks faster than others. I think the GoldBar sinks faster than the Urchin, but it would need to be tested. The other stuff sinks slowly.

That's a great video Saturn. I remember getting so mad when I couldn't figure out how to make the glitch work in 1998. You mentioned Defender, does it work for the Speed formula too?

Congrats on finishing the run. I think the result is terrific. Unfortunately 5 hours is super long, almost an hour longer than the FFVI run. Whether it gets published or not, the effort put in to complete it was excellent.

I'd say that proves what you were looking for. It's not really a glitch/easter egg though, just the game being 'forgiving' if you die at certain points. Sounds like what Captain Forehead found could be useful if it can duplicated.

I'm pretty sure you can get Bleu anytime after getting the whale. You just have to visit her house south of Highfort, then go to the magic school in Hometown. I remember this because I would always pick her up and then head to monster island for some mega-leveling.

Um, the savestate you posted is only like 2 seconds long Captain. Did you try playing it back yourself before posting it? Here is one of my old save states, try downloading it and playing it. Notice that on the download screen it says the movie starts from 'Reset' and not another Save State. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/764/Tinstar.smv
