SonicPacker and I (primarily him, though) are starting a TAS of SMB1. Obviously a run of Expert would be welcome, but what about the lower difficulties? Would people be interested in a run of Advanced? Maybe even Beginner?

I don't think there are any DC emulators that support TASing, so it would seem not.

Yeah, a perfect run would be 58:xx or possibly less. I just felt it deserved mention since his are the only TASes of the game so far (to my knowledge). EDIT: I feel I should mention that that only applies to a segmented IL run (or just an IL run using the game's timer). As part of a full game run, it would be closer to 59.xx. I think.

9 seconds, actually. The game adds 10 seconds on Level C.

Since it seems Dolphin TASes are now being accepted, I figured it was time to give this game it's own topic. Some TASes have been done by ToolAssist on youtube, such as Emerald Coast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyGt0sWHtSc I am unaware of any other TASes of this game. The SDA page for this game can be found here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/SonicAdventure.html I'm currently TASing Sonic's story (and I plan to continue on to everyone eventually). If anyone who's familiar with MHS could find values for speed and position, that would be a great help. I tried earlier, but I'm not sure I was doing it right, and either way, I had no luck whatsoever.

What the heck do you mean by somewhat worthy? He's just butthurt that his run got obsoleted, which makes this run even more awesome. Yes vote/post.
normally i'd agree, but the camera angles were really bad for a lot of the run. i wouldn't make that a reason not to say yes, but i definitely think it's worth pointing out as a warning for the next one. and just to make it clear: my vote is yes.

Well at least we are finishing other stuff until we learn how to manipulate bowser Mapler.
that's nice to hear. i'm curious, though, as to what effect caused by bowser's dance makes it so much slower?

Suicide is seriously not a joke and it should never be treated as such.
Never is such a strong word. I'll grant that intentional suicide is not a matter to be taken lightly. Accidental suicide such as auto-erotic asphyxiation can be very amusing depending on what is found in the DVD player by the authorities.
there's no such thing as unintentional suicide. suicide is the act of intentionally taking one's own life. if it's unintentional, it's just an accidental death (i say "just," but it's still as devastating and equally not to be joked about).

you know, it's one thing when people who aren't a part of an argument pressure for the argument to stop, but when someone who is a part of the argument stops arguing and apologizes, it amazes me that anyone can be so stupid as to keep arguing. it's not even unintentional. you're response to SS's comment is equivalent to saying "i don't wanna." honestly, grow up. this is just stupid. so what if zOMG took SS's lead? in this situation, you should be TRYING to be mature, especially since the ENTIRE opposition is doing that, too. I have a better idea. You stay the hell out of things which don't concern you.
great idea. meanwhile, i think i'll try and end this argument which i am deeply concerned about, seeing as i'm a greedy, selfish, egotistical asshole that wants to see this run get finished. at this rate, i might have to intentionally get them to hate me so that they can stop bickering amongst each other >_>

Funny. SS tries to sort things out, then zOMGe does exactly the same. What are the odds? Apology not accepted.

forget it. i officially don't even care about this argument anymore. esecially now, seeing as anyone who tries to continue this arfument will look like a fag. also, how do you know that you're going in a straight line? does it have something to do with MHS?

why don't you guys stop arguing for half a second, talk in such a way that ideas are actually expressed insead of the main message being "i told you already stop being an idiot," and get some work done on the dam run. i'm sick of hearing that it's been put on hold for a while because the people working on the run can't trust the people who've made runs like these before due to the fact they hate each other. i don't care how bad your relationships are with each other, leave it alone and get some work done.
Because the world demands it? This is not a place where people just order runs to be made.
did i really leave the impression that i was ordering for the run to be made? if so, my bad, i just meant that i was tired of the reason it wasn't being made being that the author of the run was having an argument with the person who can explain what to do.

all i can think of is trying some alternate input towards the pipe that doesn't lose time or trying random inputs while dealing with the text at the start of the fight. of course, i doubt you aren't doing this already.

probably not, but in the twinmold fight would using normal arrows throughout be faster since theres no shooting delay?
Fire arrows do triple damage to Blue, and the reload time on fire arrows is about the same as the amount of time it takes to hit him thrice with regular arrows. It's definitely faster to use fire arrows before he burrows in the first tome, though, as you can only get 4 arrows in before he goes under, while the 2 fire arrows you can get in do as much as 6 arrows. You could begin the fight with 4MP instead of 8 like in the video and still get a comparable time, so if that's required in the TAS, then there's no worries.
just curious, but which is actually faster? firing a fire arrow (including reload time) or firing 3 normal arrows (including reload time)?

More than just a few. You've already seen JRB, which is completely dominated by them. Obviously not every star will feature BLJs, but the run will be very BLJ heavy.
if you read my post: words words words
If you actually read what mr_roberts_z wrote, he explicitly said that there will be more than just a few stars to use the BLJ. Somehow you keep interpreting that as "only the lobby and JRB".
i'm not siding with Zomg, but honestly, name a star made less entertaining by the use of a blj. i'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you can piece together what i mean without me saying it.

It doesn't help that it's a non-arbitrary goal if it's not entertaining to watch..
the 16-star run was definitely entertaining to watch, so i don't see the problem.

while i agree that 0-star and 120 star runs are the only ones that should be accepted, i found the idea of accepting 16-star runs as a concept demo to be very interesting. since a concept demo is (to my knowledge) meant to give people an understanding of what a TAS is, making a tas of the console minimum would be great for that, because real-time players are familiar with it, and are able to see just how different the optimization is. i typed this in a hurry,so i don't know how well i worded it. i'll come back and clean it up if anyone complains.

Well, I encoded this remotely so I have no idea if it ended up the way I wanted or if it's in sync or what and I don't have the bandwidth to check, where I am... high quality video of SL's run, with HR texture pack: enjoy! (not recommended for slow PCs)
great quality, and the textures look amazing! sound desyncs, though. this is the first time i've seen the audio get ahead ofthe video, though.

well, this wouldn't prove it possible for a normal tas, but could someone with Toad's Tool try propping an elevator against the castle wall over the door, and bljing on that so you get into that glitchy "push against wall in mid-air" state? from there, jumping (i think) sends you down at extremely high speeds, and i'm pretty sure the game checks for collision with the ground before it checks for collisions with water. during the animation of mario hitting the ground and flattening, it may be possible to open the door. btw, i'm using one of myles's vids as a reference. i'll post the link when i find it. EDIT:uhh.....i was reading the previous page when i wrote this, so the topic of the post is opening the basement door.

you were probably aware of this, but in BitS, it could be a good idea to intentionally waste a frame or two if the elevator positions are bad (or just to see if it makes them better than they are).

nice to see you're taking one up, SS. where is it now? and don't worry about how long it takes. just don't rush it, or it'll be as bad as my tases :p.

Tested Eye to Eye, did not work, it also confirmed there is a max wallkick speed. It's quite high though... but it wasn't enough to get me through the eye to eye wall because I was so high on the ceiling. This is uncontrollable though, Mario has to be at the heights of the ceiling while wallkicking very fast.quote] actually, it depends on the wall. i'm working on "Into the Igloo", and the walls behave like a corner (stopping your visible movement without actually stopping you) until a few frames before you land. EDIT:nvm, i went further and now the walls are behaving like....walls.
