Hi, thanks for asking! We're working on it, but it's a lot more effort than expected. At our current pace it's gonna take at least another few weeks until the TAS is finished. The main source for this lies in the routing: In which level do we take an item with us, and where do we use it? In order to get a satisfactory answer, we tas most of the stages in multiple ways (differently, depending on the route).
Sounds good. Thanks.

I meant to do this after I first submitted. I've decided that I'm going to start showing comparison videos on how much time was cut from my very first effort to the final version that I create. Link to video

It finally occurred to me, one way this game is optimized. So I gave it a try and found 14 frames. I attribute this to how the game operates, and not that it was it was a better route or strategy. I still don't understand this, but my theory was correct.

Speed 20 could be done if you had sub-frame inputs or does it not poll often enough?
I've wondered that myself. I had talked with DwangoAC about the idea of sub-frame inputs, but he says the Commodore didn't operate that way to accommodate for it. Said something about "Racing The Beam". I can understand this, since the architecture wasn't controlled by timing devices like we have with modern consoles. I regards to polling, I'm not sure. The main program is written in B.A.S.I.C, but the handling of movement and joystick reading is done in a "machine language" routine. On Level 19, one block of movement can be handled by one frame of inputs. So, I am certain that the polling can pick up something faster...but the emulation would certainly need to be updated to allow that.

Exactly. It almost makes me believe that level 20 was completely un-throttled...where as 19 was subjected to the normal timing routine used for all levels right up to the fastest playable one.

Hypothetically, if the lives bug wasn't an issue would the game still break if the score went over 1,000,000 points?
I've wondered that myself. I'm just glad that I didn't have to go that far. When I got this BOT set up, I was testing to see how far it would go. Thankfully, the lives counter stopped it...which was something that I didn't expect. btw, for the record...I know the reason why the screen got cleared out. When the lives counter hits the value for 147, it basically was the representation of the "CLR" command...which eliminates all the characters on the screen that come from the "customized" area for the normal character set. As for the other glitches, I have no idea why things start changing color in specific spots.

I laughed so hard, when I saw this response on my YouTube channel. I can't believe someone took the time to find these details. It actually makes me like the TAS more. Apparently, the glitches are entertaining to some. @gordontaylor2815 wrote the following: ------------------------------------------------- Highlights: 0:32 First extra life (2,000 points) 3:40 Extra life stock goes beyond 9 and starts cycling through PETSCII characters as more lives are earned 26:08 100K score reached 39:43 Lives counter freezes on a right triangle shape (= 80 lives), although extra lives are continuing to be stocked 40:47 Score digits turn red! (156,075 points and 81 lives stocked) 48:39 Score digits revert to black color (186,125 points and 96 lives stocked) 50:11 At 192,000 points (99 lives stocked) all graphics except fisherman and enemies as well as indicators disappear! Score digits reappear after next score increase but rest of screen remains empty. 51:16 At 196,125 points and 101 lives stocked, the score digits will begin changing colors each time an extra life is added! 53:52 Score digits disappear again (presumably having turned same color as background) and do not reappear until next extra life threshold is reached (54:24); color changing continues on afterwards until it "sticks" at a light blue color. 57:31 Symbols colored the same as the score digits start appearing again where the lives counter had been before the screen was cleared earlier. 1:46:48 The symbols where the lives counter had been "sticks" on a light blue pi symbol. 1:49:58 Score digits turn white at 420,075 points - although the lives counter remains at a light blue pi symbol (represents 213 lives in reserve at this point). 1:54:41 Lives symbol changes to a checkerboard pattern (438,050 points and 222 lives) 1:56:47 Score digits "invert" (blue digits in white box) at 446,075 points and 226 lives. 2:02:02 Color cycling begins again with the box surrounding the score digits at 466,075 points and 236 lives 2:04:07 Extra dark blue box appears next to "checkerboard" at 474,025 points and 240 lives - the box around the score digits also "sticks" on that color. The dark blue box shows symbols that change with each additional life accumulated beyond that point. 2:12:30 At 506,025 points the lives counter overflows from 255 back to zero and the game crashes, abruptly ending the run.

Despite the space theming, this looks less "Lunar Lander" and more like "Frogger in Space". Also, do you have a userfile showing that Level 29 is indeed completely impossible to get through (as you claim in the description)?
I forgot to mention that. It does look like Frogger! I'm glad someone else is thinking the same thing. As for the 29th level, I figured that any judge could just let it continue to see that there are only 1 block gaps throughout the 4 layers of asteroids.

for TAS i do believe that liu kang is probably the fastest, since RTA doesn't input bike kicks perfectly but still all the other optimizations would have to be done
You are right, but I made the analogy because of the final boss fight. There was a noticeable delay in affecting the AI of Shao Kahn. I was curious if the delay could have been prevented, if using Shang Tsung's Fireball attack. But either way, there were critical optimizations missed through-out the entire TAS. I think that the difference between the two characters wouldn't have warranted a rejection though.

I'm posting this here, because I feel like you are not noticing the comments that have been made by a number of judges over your history of submissions. In the future, please look under your submission notes to see our judging statements. ---- Well, I didn't have to look at this long before I realized that it is not heading in the right direction. Let's go through some of the details: *The Bicycle kick is certainly a powerful move, but it seems to be slightly behind...due to having a longer striking move. This makes the round last a tiny big longer. Seems that it would be faster to end off on a quicker move that will not take much completion time. *Your character choice MAY be a problem. There are some issues that I see at the end. where you have to delay, in order to affect the AI of your opponent. The WR uses Shang Tsung, where the use of the Triple Flaming Skull attack to deal damage from afar to get around this. *"Flawless Victory". This is a mistake. If you watch the WR, the player takes damage at some point (usually in the first moment of the fight) to receive damage. This is the key to keeping the fight going fast and stop the time it takes to display the notification of your "Damage-less" round. *"Bonus Round". This is another mistake...and the biggest issue I see. This round is achieved by using low kicks only, which is what the bicycle attack does. If you had changed your strategy on the fight before the "?" round, you would have been able to skip this. This article explains it: https://www.ign.com/wikis/mortal-kombat-2/Jade_(Bonus). I do not enjoy seeing your history of rejections, but it doesn't seem to me that you are doing what is necessary to make a highly optimized TAS. In this case, a lot of this could have been avoided by at least perfecting the WR run, which avoids all these issues I mentioned above. I'm sorry, but I'm rejecting this run for optimization reasons.

"Pandemonium" is very appropriate for this title, considering how much is going on all at once on the screen! (Although if this is Crossroads 2, what happened to Crossroads 1 perchance?)
The original Crossroads was good, but not this good. I decided to do this one first. Eventually, I'll get around to it. This version has some things that make it much more exciting. For one, this version has "power-ups". You don't see them much here because I'm going so fast. Instead of "white spars", red and blue ones exists. Blue makes you go faster, which I manipulate RNG to show up on the 3rd screen. Red makes you shoot faster, which I don't get...because it doesn't matter.

No. I saw that you had two graphical screens instead of one. I reworked that area and got the rest of the inputs to sync up. So...they still have all the commands that you had.
