I remember my first attempt at a full game submission, and it was certainly an arbitrary category. The selection of the game helped a lot, but in the end...it wasn't accepted abroad by the community. Since then, I have come to focus primarily on any% as my top goal, followed by 100%, and finally low%. For me, when it comes to glitched runs...it depends on the technical side of how it was performed, for rating its entertainment. After all those, play-arounds are the only other categories that I really love watching. Barring the fact that arbitrary goals could reach the level of moons for entertainment, I don't see the value in seeking endless categories. If every category was accepted, this site would blow up with publications that will devalue the lure for enthusiast who want to see the limitations and available entertainment, where their favorite games is concerned. I draw the line when the game has been exhausted in the aforementioned categories....as these new goal choices contain movements that could have very well been used as filler for entertaining during a boring part or less technical area to traverse. I tend to start loosing my attraction for TASes when there is nothing substantial to showcase, so I stick with the obvious....be faster. No vote.

I've tried figuring this one out, based on other submissions...so I'm a bit confused. I've studied the following two submissions, and crossed them with my own understanding (a few of my own accepted submissions): NES Burger Time http://tasvideos.org/4094M.html I bring this one up, due to it have 256 stages...something similir to what I'm about to ask. NES Duck Hunt (Game B) http://tasvideos.org/4003M.html With Duck Hunt, DrD2k9 identifies at round 27 that the hit box gets as small as it will and the speed has been capped. My newest, un-submitted, TAS is a C64 version of "Omega Race". My observations show that the game repeats after 5 rounds...which the games states "Droid Force 1 Eliminated". Afterwards....it appears to continue over again at the same level of difficulty. The address of 0x27 shows an incrementing value of the round being played. I've "Poked" the address with various numbers, all the way to 255, and I'm seeing the same count of ships and speed. In addition, the pattern of mobility seems to be similar...except that RNG does affect things because of the frame that inputs occur on. Because of that, it is not a situation where inputs can be copied to complete future rounds...based off the last round of difficulty increase. Any ideas on confirming an ending for this?

This kind of submission is very interesting. I first got interested in these type of glitched runs, when Super Metroid was heavily exploited. Its nice to see other games perform the same kind of "End Credits"? Its funny that this run comes shortly after I got certified in CompTia's Security +...where they teach you tricks to avoid buffer overflows. This is an example of what would happen when you don't take in consideration, the effects in memory for handling the tracking of where you are. Just imagine the potential access to company applications, if something was discovered in the same lines. Yes vote.

Level 15 repeats over and over...so it never speeds back up again. I had conversations about this situation with a number of members to know if it would be required to end the game or not...but feos confirmed that Levels 0 through 14 was all that was needed.

I think you may mean Stage 15...which would have been the 16th screen. (Not sure why the author chose to represent the levels in engineering notation)....but I think I get your point. feos and I talked about this and I left it where the TAS continued...as long as the difficulty increased. That was the "Look Out!" ... I guess Charles thought that anyone reaching that level would have expected a dramatic change for the worse, but instead...he slowed down the game. It was probably a joke for him, since he thought nobody could ever get that far. Looks like he was right...only Level 12 was the best that he had ever heard of.

To start it, LOAD"A*",8,1 SYS49152 the disk's menu system (if you use x64 -autostart) didn't seem to work for me, not sure why. You'd want to avoid it to reduce loading time anyway.
Unfortunately, if I use this version...I would have to start all over again. The rng for the frame of the start of each level will be dramatically different.

I am so glad that someone noticed this. I talked with feos about this and wanted to use my "typed-in" version. Because I'm the source, I would have the ability to modify the game....so we had to use a recognized source for the download. Sorry, but it really irritates me as well. Ok...I'm over complicating this. I should have just played the level out. It is painfully slow to watch; however, the level doesn't increase after its completion...it just remains at 15 with the same slow behavior. So...this means a decision between ending the TAS at the completion of 14 or 15? I would think 14, since 15 shows a massive degradation in difficulty and speed, which doesn't represent the aspect of TASing.

Aside from the slowness of the enemies, the "Shooting" ship moves at the same rate, but the laser moves as slow as the enemy ships.

I've spent some time this afternoon trying to figure out the location for this, but there is a method that I can't figure out. It starts with Level 0, but nothing matches on changes of "one" that makes sense. I've used the debugger, but it performs the level change near the end of the process...which 1000's of executions are occurring (if stepped through with "Step Into"). So i'm trying to narrow it down. I'll keep trying.

Link to video I've gone around with a few people and it seems that my questions have been answered, but there is still one concern. If you can tell me your opinion on the ending of this TAS, that would answer the question on whether it satisfies the rule of completing this apparently, never ending game. The end, as described by the author, was supposed to be "something to look out for". Since I've never seen it before, I decided to TAS it and check to see if he was just joking or not...well, it slows down to a crawl and makes me believe that Levels 0 through 14 are enough to complete the game.

Ok...great. In regards that unpublished TAS, the movie rules of this site prohibit the use of passwords to make progress towards the end...as it is desired to beat the game "In Full". So you have taken the correct approach. I don't know much about optimization, but this is a really good game and I personally know how hard it is to TAS it. Yes vote.

Welcome. I'm not quite sure how to evaluate your efforts, seeing that another un-submitted video exists. The video below is also a DOS run, but seems to take advantages of all the tricks that are not present your TAS. From your submission, you've stated that you avoided glitches. Unless glitches are game breaking...I'm not sure that your run is any different that the video posted below....which is minutes faster. Can you elaborate more on the differences? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfOocUkxJ08
