Well, its a step up from Desert Bus.
I recently discovered that if you haven't reached a level of frustration with TASing any game, then you haven't done your due diligence. ---- SOYZA: Are you playing a game? I'm disappointed that you didn't get this long TAS done with one re-record.

Not allowing you to do everything that needs doing in one pass is a silly and infuriating design choice. Especially when you end up covering the exact same territory running back and forth just to play Mother May I with the terminal. At least no fall damage means that gravity is almost always your friend when you're in a hurry.
In the beginning, I did try confirm that very same concern. I was hoping that I might be able to trick the game some how...but in the end, it was ludicrous to have to go back so many times over the same areas. So...yeah, I share the same frustration with you.

This may turn into a larger discussion, because I'm really not sure how to ask this. So let's start with the follow: I'm having trouble identifying the possible categories of a TAS I'm working on. Some argue that IGT is more important, but RTA also delivers "Fastest Credits". Additionally, IGT and RTA could be broken down into OoB categories. My question is, what branches would be accepted. (Note, that I'm being vague on purpose...knowing that I might have to spill the secret of what I'm working on). Actually, more specifically...what situations can branches co-exist without obsoleting each other.

It appears you are correct! I was using a RAM address which I thought tracked X subpixels but upon closer inspection, it does not. Visually, it is actually possible to see that the manipulation I make allows me to jump from the very edge pixel of the platform, whereas without the manipulation the rightmost I can jump is two pixels to the left of that. I have already edited the TAS notes to reflect all of the above.
Excellent! I figured that to be very odd, but thanks for looking into that. Nice find on the 52 frames, also. Now I can vote yes! As you can tell, I am a big fan of older consoles.

Yeah, that is one of the drawbacks. If the game was going to be that long, then I would have preferred more variety. Things repeated over and over. But...one thing that I really love about this movie is the fact that the Egg scenes are probably the highest entertainment, followed by the quick destruction of the Mother Aliens.

Wait...you are telling me that an old 8 bit system has programming to make use of subpixels? What would be the point...this game really doesn't require it. I've seen older games manipulate position, but it usually was to push the main character "off-center" from its given starting point...giving a pixel advantage without suffering from any detection that would hurt progress. This would be evident where a character would move 2 pixels each frame. When the character would run into a wall, or edge of the screen, it would reset it to an odd number placement rather than the 2,4,6,8 pixel possibilities. This is not in every game, but I'm pretty sure that a game like this doesn't make use of subpixels. That started surfacing in SNES....like Super Metroid.

Oh I forgot. As for the difficulty, that is certainly a toss up for me. Beating the game fast, at hardest level, certainly will take more time. More entertainment would certainly present itself if you beat it faster, but I've seen games like this and how long it takes to operate on the hardest level. Not sure that I would go for a yes vote, on the hardest. Anyway, it is disappoint...but again, the ease of destruction was very interesting to watch on the chosen level.

I've briefly looked over the other posts, but I'm going with my original thoughts...since I don't have time to absorb all the discussion here. I'm surprised at how easy it was for you to destroy this version. I attribute it to the following: * Limited resources * Doesn't contain "Book Opening" moves (due to ram limitations) * Programming highly logic games was a new venture for coders at that time. From the first few moves, that free pawn really showed the lack of strength the game has. You rightly took advantage and destroyed this with ease. Future consoles certainly expanded on these early efforts and now...games like this are much harder to beat. As with Chessmaster 2600 (SNES), the optimization of TASing it has been discussed for years on end, to the point that a balance between using "Book Opening" moves and discovering the weakness behind the CPU is the challenge. No fools mate here! LOL Yes vote. Great job.

This type of game was created on a number of machines back then, although it was called something different on each. It was a classic. The one I was particularly interested in was the Vic-20 version....which was called Trench Fire. Yes vote. Keep them coming Winslinator!

Not sure if this is related to the title, but I figured to ask here...just in case. I've produced a verification run to open up new capabilities of a game. The problem I'm having is that I initially created my project against it and now, when I save this project to another name or open up an existing one, the SRAM is no longer attached. Is there a know bug with Bizhawk? Or am I skipping a step?

Well, I have to say...very good game choice and very good execution. The duo player annihilation certainly kept my attention and the destruction was insane. Can't wait to see what you 'attack' next. :P If you think I'm going to give you a yes EZ...think again. Crap, I've already voted yes. LOL

Its amazing to see what developers are still able to do, this many years later. The music is WAAAY more interesting than the classic music that we've heard from so many c64 games of the 80's and 90's. Great choice Moth...Yes vote.

I used to watch Rodrigo's stream, when he was attempting to get the WR on this game. Very good game for attempting glitches and optimized movements. I'm not sure why I never thought to watch the TAS back then, but I'm glad that I have now. So...for the original part that MUGG did, GG. Very good run and entertaining. As for the 8 frames by EZ...nice find and I look forward to you finding those other improvements discussed. So...Yes vote.
