The visual on this makes it look like the game is super easy; however, that is far from the truth. Its too bad the game lacks the ability to demonstrate that. The work done on this is amazing! Yes vote for the continued improvements!

I find it amazing how this game is still being pursued for cuts. When I have reviewed puzzles solves over and over, I get to where I can't see any improvements. Yet! I come back another day and something new shows up that I wouldn't have considered. This has been the case with a few TASes that I'm currently working on. Great job finding that cut Alyosha. Yes vote.

Never mind, I'm dumb. I just noticed that it doesn't require a parameter to denote it.

It appears the current "Command Line" documentation is lacking some of the functionality that exists. I downloaded the latest solution of Bizhawk and I found: _argParser The problem is, I am not able to update my existing Visual Studio to accommodate for looking at the definition of the properties of that item...with fear that I could hurt my existing environments. Can someone tell me the availability of the commandline parameter for _argParser.cmdRom ? I've tried --rom, but nothing is happening.

The methodology was simple: look at the coordinates of the rooms that the enemies are in when the mountain is entered. If they're good, continue testing. If not, move on to the next situation. The reason the rerecord count is so low is because I started this project 3 years ago when the Intellivision core was still under development. When I was about ready to submit for the first time, I realized the movie didn't work on the newest version of BizHawk (due to new intellivision features) so I redid the entire movie and it reset the rerecord count. The original rerecord count is forever lost but I estimate it would've been somewhere around 5000. The extra 193 rerecords are simply from testing the new strategy. By the way, just found another 2-frame improvement, so I will be cancelling this submission.
Ok...sounds good. :)

I've always been interested in Intellivision, but never really got to play one. This looks to be a good game for the time, although it doesn't grab me for entertainment, the fact that you found a way to cut 3 frames for a game that is done crazily short is impressive.

Curious, for such stated luck manipulation...I would have figured the re-record count would have been higher. For my first submission, I had submitted a raw text file which showed "0" rerecords and the true count was never realized. For this, you have some really interesting findings that helped you to cut frames, but how much time did it really take? I can't imagine that you made these discoveries among 194 tries. Would you care to elaborate a bit further on how you approached your experimentation? Also, I found the technique of using the 2nd controller interesting. I have also done this for one Commodore 64 TAS. Systems, as awesome as they were back then, were not programmed with extensive routines to prevent controller input from making any changes to what a "First" player would experience. I remember playing around with "Player 1" and seeing rare but random characters type up...which is one reason why I believe c64 programmers used Player 2 mostly for single player games. Btw, Yes vote.

I'm ok with the entertainment of this game. It appears to be optimized. I love the history on this game, since I never knew Coleco was involved with porting it. It was the only version that I had played at the time. Nice submission. yes vote.

Hmmm. This seems to be a recurring issue with newbies. There is nothing like slowing down and figuring out a game. In fact, the longer I have worked on a game...the more I have found. Embarrassingly enough, all my TASes have been submitted with flaws...not because I didn't take a great deal of time to figure it out, but because I didn't do enough testing to find things that were not so obvious. Simple platforming games, like this one, still has challenges to get through. Its no all about holding "RIGHT". Spikestuff clearly made that known with his effort. Experience pays off, but if you have none...you have to start with the right approach. SLOW DOWN and stop racing to do something. I made this mistake with my very first submission and FAILED. I think you'll be surprised how rewarding it is to put a decent amount of time into a TAS. Then length of a game certainly doesn't mandate a certain amount of time. If this wasn't so, then the Gameboy version of Tetris (B Game), wouldn't be in the MILLIONS of re-recording by a BOT. When this TAS was done, it cut around 6 seconds from the previous version. Check out Mr. Wint's TAS: http://tasvideos.org/4536S.html If your TAS does get accepted...you take the chance of increasing the visibility of your submission and creating a challenge for others to obsolete yours.

Thanks. I figured a large amount of cores would eliminate interference from OS processes. In terms of affinity settings, I figured the emulator probably used at least 2 threads (bsnes.exe and tasstudio)...which I could pindown specific cores for use by bizhawk.

I've tried searching for information on bizhawk's use of multicore processors, but I can't find anything. I've ordered a new PC to speed up the process of my TASing with a AMD Ryzen 9 with 16 cores. Just curious as to how much bizhawk actually threads processes out. Can the emulator make use of all the cores?

Given the level of difficulty selected, it is nice to see it done so quickly. I play this game a lot, and I see that it is very quick; however, this mode is not one that I play. Question: Are combinations not the fastest way to win in this mode...as with the "VS Computer" or against a second player? I ask, because cascading combinations are devastating to another competitor.

Regardless if you feel you did a great job or not, this site certainly strives for the HIGHEST quality movies. Our judges are extremely versed in optimization and have the final say. I have experienced this myself. I would encourage you to take heed to others on the thread, as they are only mentioning points that will certainly lead to more productive TASing is the future. If you would like a small TAS to look at that shows incredible work, check out: http://tasvideos.org/4536S.html Notice the "re-record" count. This did not come by easily or in a short amount of time. Plus, the artist did a lot of work to cut around 6 seconds of work. For other games, we have users who are fighting to find 1 frame. I haven't made perfect submissions, but it should look like you have given enough effort to prove the run can't be beaten. Stating that it was done in two hours is not a positive point. One of Tompa's TASes was 10 years in the making. For Sniq, his work has come from multiple years of figuring out better optimizations throughout all Super Metroid TASes. Aside from visual inspections, tools such as Ram Wach and lua scripting were used to help Sniq better the movies he has written. If it does get accepted...you take the chance of increasing the visibility of your submission and creating a challenge for others to obsolete yours.

I'm kinda on the fence about this one. I think it is great that a modernized version of the beloved classic has been made, but it doesn't strike me with awe. The rerecord count is low, which is something that most people on this site know that I go off of (even though I know it can be represented negatively at times). I too confused the stuttering (mentioned by EZ) for optimization issues. I think it is possible, even though I can't prove it, that this could be cleaned up for more frames. Decent effort, I suppose for a first time submission... meh vote.

I've developed a problem where the power has gone out while I'm in the middle of using lsnes a number of times. When loading back up lsnes, there are errors in retrieving the list of projects. The current project I was working on has become corrupt, but all others are fine. I would like to remove projects from lsnes to avoid these, but I can't find its location. My best effort shows that it is in the registry...but I can't decipher what I'm looking at. Has a tool been written to help manipulate project entries?
