I recently started a video game review series. I’m kind of new to the review format, but have decent enough experience in editing, so I’m kind of learning on the job. My other goal is to clean out my game backlog, so I’ll be reviewing all kinds of games, both obscure and popular. So far I’ve completed six reviews. The full playlist is here, individual reviews are below. Any feedback, positive or negative, would be greatly appreciated! My two most recent reviews as of this posting are: The Darkness (Xbox 360) Link to video Luigi’s Mansion (GameCube) Link to video

And fix your comments. The formatting makes it impossible to use the links below the submission information, at least on iPhone.

In my opinion the old TAS should be branched as 100%. It started from a fresh power on, achieved "100.0%" on the percentage counter and showed the Metal Gear RAY concept art, which is the reward for beating every mission in the game. For the new TAS, I would either leave it branchless or use the branch "Individual Levels". The new TAS loads from SRAM at 36.6%, having completed the Practice Mode missions for Sneaking Mode, Weapon Mode and Advanced Mode. Every mission done in the TAS (except for Variety 12 and 13, Mystery 10 and NG Selection 8, which cannot be completed in SRAM because they hadn't been unlocked yet) is tracked on the leaderboards at http://www.speedrun.com/mgsvrm and has either a time or score that is competed for.

I had never heard of this bootleg before seeing the TAS, so this was pretty much my reaction through the whole thing: Link to video Voting meh. The novelty factor alone is certainly worth upgrading it from a no, but it's simply not entertaining enough for a yes, especially with all the lag. Something like Bubsy 3D at least is a good example of a bad game that looks presentable with frame perfection.

This has everything I'd want in a TAS - fast paced action, hilarious bugs, and triangular cleavage. I especially enjoyed the bear photobombing the switch cutscene towards the end of City of Vilcabamba. An easy yes vote.

Post subject: Favourite educational songs (excluding Schoolhouse Rock)

My client, an educator and part-time tutor, is looking to me to compile a list of educational songs for YouTube playlists on their website. They prefer song parodies but will take original material as well - except, as mentioned before, Schoolhouse Rock. While I absolutely love the show and it's very near and dear to my heart, Schoolhouse Rock songs are UMG protected and get taken down really easily. The client is looking for YouTube videos of mnemonic (i.e. easy memory trick) songs on the following subjects (can be aimed at any skill level, from kindergarten up to post-graduate/doctorate): - math (sub-categories multiplication tables, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, fractions, statistics and probability, equations, geometry, surface area and volume) - science (chemistry/periodic elements in particular, astronomy, physics) - English - history - geography - music theory - American standardized testing prep (especially MCAT and SAT) I have compiled 57 videos so far (and yes, I already have some obvious ones like Tom Lehrer's periodic table song and the Animaniacs "Nations of the World" song) but I'm always looking for outside suggestions with only two rules: - the song must be in English - if I see another goddamn Frozen parody I am going to kill you (just kidding, but please don't send any more. I already have a few to satisfy the client and managed to convince them not put in any more) Any links would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you all so much for your help! I really appreciated everything you guys are doing to help out. The other main issue I'm having now is with screen size (current code for index here). The way the page was designed, it has two "layers" of <div>s, one for creating background colours (background and header_spacer), and a second called container, which acts as a "nest" layer for the menu, JS custom code for the drop-down menu, and body text, structured like this: CONTAINER (left_column (left_column_contact), text_container, footer_spacer, footer (badge, copyright)) The client wants the site to be able to dynamically scale to monitor size like something you'd see on WordPress. On the advice of Fog, I put the "container" div into a broader nest called "scaler" and attempted to write CSS that would scale or pad the divs into submission. My least bad attempt so far has been
.scaler
{
	width: 100%;
    display: table;
}

.scaler > div
{
	display: table-cell;
}
Bad news is it does nothing, but at least it hasn't broken the formatting like my other attempts. Solutions I've found online, most of which involve position:absolute; etc., only apply to a single div, but I'm juggling ten of them, and I don't want to have to rewrite the site just to implement this feature.

I've been following the progress of this TAS for a long time, so this is an easy yes vote. Also I'm partial to the fourth screenshot you suggested where the two enemies are flying in sync.

If you want the same picture to not show twice in a row, what about:

var myIndex = 0;
var oldMyIndex = 0;

while (myIndex == oldMyIndex)
{
    myIndex = Math.floor(Math.random() * x.length);
}

oldMyIndex = myIndex;

That worked. Thanks!

New version of carousel (huge thanks to Masterjun for the help!) which randomizes, but still has the chance of showing the same picture twice in a row
				<script>
					var myIndex = 0;
					carousel();

						function carousel()
						{
							// var min = 0,
							// 	max = 48,
							var	i,
								x = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");

							for (i = 0; i < x.length; i++)
							{
								x[i].style.display = "none";
							}

							myIndex = Math.floor(Math.random() * x.length);

							// myIndex++;

							// if (myIndex > x.length)
							// 	{
							// 		myIndex = 1;
							// 	}

							x[myIndex].style.display = "block";

							setTimeout(carousel, 9500);
						}
				</script>

Before anyone asks, I have tried to ask similar questions on the Stack Overflow forums, but surprisingly they're not very helpful. I'm actually kind of disappointed. I am currently working on a client's website, and part of my assignment is to recreate a slideshow that was originally written in Flash (gah). I rewrote it in HTML5 with a bit of help from a JavaScript template
<div class="w3-content w3-section" style="max-width:280px">
	<img class="mySlides w3-animate-fading" src="./images/280-385/banner1.jpg" style="width:100%">
	<img class="mySlides w3-animate-fading" src="./images/280-385/banner2.jpg" style="width:100%">
//etc. etc. all the way down for several dozen photos
</div>

<script>
	var myIndex = 0;
	carousel();
		function carousel()
		{
			var i;
			var x = document.getElementsByClassName("mySlides");
			for (i = 0; i < x.length; i++)
			{
				x[i].style.display = "none";
			}
			myIndex++;
			if (myIndex > x.length) {myIndex = 1}
			x[myIndex-1].style.display = "block";
			setTimeout(carousel, 9500);
	}
</script>
This JS code works perfectly for showing the pictures in order, but now the client wants them randomized. They also like the fading transitions, so writing something brand-new is out of the question. I'm clearly not doing very well. My initial attempt at randomizing is to give each photo an id with "pic[number]" e.g.
<img class="mySlides w3-animate-fading" src="./images/280-385/banner1.jpg" style="width:100%" id="pic1">
and then use a DOM Parser to force the URL to come through as a string
var parser = new DOMParser();
var doc = parser.parseFromString(html, 'text/html');
var x = doc.getElementsById("pic" + Math.floor(Math.random()));
but all this accomplishes (along with any use of math.random really) is that the slideshow now displays every picture at once. The client specifically wants me to keep using w3-animate-fading, and most of the solutions to randomize photos I've seen online involve completely rewriting the code with JS+jQuery and losing access to the stylesheet. If anyone could help me out, that would be fantastic :)
