When I first saw this movie in the workbench, I thought it would be total ass. Because, come on, the Virtual Boy? Then I remembered that Wario Land was one of maybe three or four games on the system that are considered good. Then I thought I'd get eye strain just from trying to tell what the fuck was going on. Thankfully, I came prepared. I thought this movie would be terrible, but it wasn't, at all. With 3D glasses, it was easy to tell what was going on and adelikat's play was, as usual, top notch. Yes vote.

That's....that's all I can say really. You have brought this kid, who grew up with the Crash trilogy to tears... You bastard. :P

I've improved the first level by just under five seconds and I took a different (and cooler) route on the second level. It doesn't really matter since there are only two Hermes Boots on that level anyway. Here's the pxm.

Ah, thanks; I could watch it now. The second stage was really good. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the game. :D (I didn't even know you could use the internal BIOS for TASes... But it seems it only works if you use the interpreter CPU. So, for those who want to see this, in PCSX: Configuration -> Options -> CPU -> Enable Interpreter CPU.)
Are you planning to do an encode? Kkapture hates me :/

Yeah, this is a great game for a TAS. I recently watched a longplay on YouTube and I got very interested in doing a TAS of it myself..

Unfortunately this doesn't sync here. I've tried using the original CD and an ISO I <s>il</s>legally downloaded and I've also tried using the BIOS "SCPH1001.BIN" and "SCPH7001.BIN", but they all desync at the same spot... You start pressing buttons even before the intro movies end.
I used the PCSX Internal BIOS. That's the only one the game syncs with, at all.

So I saw Disney's Hercules on the PS1 wishlist and decided to give it a shot. It's a pretty neat action game: a bit easy but it moves at a fast clip and has levels which alternate between 2D (traditional combat and platforming) and 3D (rail platforming a la Pepsiman). You can also move in and out of the foreground in 2D like in LittleBigPlanet, but only at specific points. Here's a PXM of the first two levels on Herculean difficulty http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TRIKDJ49 I am pretty sure that left--->left is the fastest path on that first 3D level. I plan to tighten up the entertainment etc. eventually, but I wanted to get this topic rolling.

How many of these levels are direct copies of the PSX versions? Well, either way, it wasn't all that entertaining, skill wise or manipulation wise. It's the fault of game choice, though. No vote.
I only recognized two as direct copies: the first one, which was in MGS2 also, and the fourth or fifth one, I think, the one with the noisy floors and sleeping guards. Several of the levels in the GBC borrow gimmicks from the PS1 version (I specifically remember there being a box-on-conveyor-belt mission) but they're at least different level design.

First of all, I would like to officially welcome you to the TASvideos community and congratulate you on your first submission! I know the exhilarating thrill of finishing a submission, the joy of writing comments and the crushing disappointment of a first-time rejection all too well. About the run itself: I don't think Ghost Babel, even the VR mode, was a good game choice for TASing. Many of the VR Missions required you to wait in one spot for long periods of time, which really breaks the flow of the movie. If you have to do it, at least make it entertaining, like moving around as much as you can without getting caught, if you absolutely must wait. I'm voting meh. It was well played but, at times, tedious to watch (I would only vote no if it looked sloppy too, which admittedly it doesn't). Also, your input file ends early. In order for this to be accepted (as I recently learned with my Snood run), you will need to add a handful of frames to your run in order to press "try again", which takes you back to the VR menu. So those are my thoughts on this. And once again, welcome to the site.

I voted yes. It was well played and quite entertaining in spite of the game's slow pace. Most of my complaints could simply filed under the "it's the game's fault not the runner's category" so I'll ignore them for now. It's just a shame that the game is in first person and you don't get to SEE all the awesome actions your player character is doing :(

Sure thing. I used mp3's because I liked the sound sample better from hamienet.com's midi-to-mp3 converter especially that soprano sax on Brinstar :D

So I recently got my hands on Guitar Pro 5 totally legally of course ;) and I decided to remix two classic video game songs in genres that go against the original tone of the song. Tell me what you think! Constructive criticism is always appreciated. Don't tell me that I suck; tell me why I suck and how I can stop sucking :P Brinstar from the original Metroid (lounge jazz). This was my first attempt at composing something in Guitar Pro 5, and the quality is noticeably lacking. Gourmet Race Laps 1 and 3 from Kirby Super Star (klezmer). I always thought that Gourmet Race would make a good song to dance to at a bar mitzvah, so I made one.

Well, it's more of a crappy mp3 than a crappy video, but here goes. I've recently done two remixes of classic videogame songs in deliberately juxtaposing genres. A jazz version of Brinstar from the original Metroid A klezmer (yes, klezmer or kley zemer if you're Nach version of Gourmet Race from Kirby Super Star

I'm giving up on this. Not (just) because I'm a habitual quitter when it comes to TASing, but also because I just simply can't stand this game from a speed perspective. It just isn't fun anymore to do this run, there are so many goddamn unescapable ambushes and combat absolutely sucks when it comes to speed. It's just getting too ridiculous. This is the kind of game where I'd like to WATCH a run of it, but I've learned the hard way that it's not all that fun to make. Here's where I gave up. At least I managed to complete 1-3. I would love to see somebody else pick up this run and improve it/finish it, but I just can't deal with this game anymore.

I redid 1-1, and 1-2 is complete. I ended 1-2 with 981 cash, and bought Projectile Pro 1 (so I can do more damage on the move) and Specialist (to get rid of bosses faster, but I plan to use Tea Time on all of them) I figured out that it is much easier to get Special Metre energy by spending a few seconds in the puzzle screen, rather than going out of my way to kill enemies. So for the entirety of this run I will be skipping any encounters that I can and finishing off all the bosses with Tea Time.

Voting no because I saw two subpixels you could have optimized. Clearly, this is a terrible TAS that should never have seen the light of day. ;)

At this point I don't care about the movie not syncing. If I have to redo it, I will. I just want to make sure that I'm able to finish this run, one way or another (I also think the number of times you've saved in a run affects the conditions BIG BOSS emblem I'm aiming for in this run, but I'm not 100% certain on that).

I'm having some trouble using N-Rage 0.5 with the newer version of PCSX. When I booted it up for the first time, it said it could not load the plugin. Then, when I refreshed it, it accepted it and allowed me to bind keys, but wouldn't accept any input from the plugin. This is kind of important because I want to see if this build fixes the cutscene issues in MGS1 :/

I finished 1-1. I really really really hate this level, it's so boring to TAS. I chose to get as much money as possible from the final flunky fight instead of using Tea Time. I really need help trying to arrange all this :(

Yes voted, though the above poster stole my you-killed-Kenny joke :( I particularly enjoyed how the aforementioned Kenny, armed with a katana, was helpless against 30hz punching :D I still think it would be interesting to see a minimum-missions run without the save glitch, but that would have to be a different category.

I was amazed by how high quality the voice samples are in this game. According to the credits this is the same compression technique used for Rogue Squadron. Amazing, the N64 is not supposed to sound this good. Elmo is clearly abusing substances (low-polygon chickens) to indulge himself in out of map experiences. Someone needs to stop him before it's too late. I think this would make for a much better TAS if you did the whole game. Voting meh in the hopes you do a full playaround with those amazing voice clips >_>

The first five minutes of this TAS was like watching a repeating gag on Family Guy. The only difference being, there's an actually funny punchline at the end of the tedium. The boss playaround was hilarious too. If I were in charge of this I would never have figured how to make all those boss fights watchable. This gets a have-my-babies vote from me. Also, have we now confirmed that slide-spinning is faster than sliding all the time? Or is it still contextual?

This site means far more to me than anyone here might think. It helped me stay positive through family deaths, gave me goals to strive for outside of things like education, and introduced me to a community of loving, caring people. Basically, this is more than a hobby that's going to die with this site. I will support any decision that lets the art of tool-assisted speedrunning continue.
