I saw the run twice and I'm seriously impressed. Voting yes, 5/5, would run again. *tongue placed firmly in cheek*

I've been following your progress for quite some time SoulCal, and I cannot WAIT to see the final product on the workbench. I'm definitely stealing your Ashley damage strategy now that you've officially confirmed it's faster :)

I own a copy of Nightfire, but I was never able to finish because my disc, for whatever reason, refused to load a level halfway through, and even when I used cheats and skipped ahead to a later level it still wouldn't load properly. I'm looking forward to this run so I can get the proper James Bond Experience (TM).

TAS of the year. But seriously, this was definitely funny. That barrel roll really made it worthwhile. Chalk up one yes vote!

Make that 12 million. Half were Jews, the other half were POWs/homosexuals/Roma/handicapped/not-Aryan. Also, speaking as a Jew, I found Nach's prank morbidly hilarious, maybe because I'm more familiar with Nach's deep knowledge of Jewish mythology over IRC. I'm on the Mel Brooks side of Hitler demonization, where we should turn him into this sniveling idiot who can't be taken seriously rather than fearing him. It still says March 31st on my calendar >_> Regardless, this gets a yes vote for actually doing something creative with an April Fool's submission! The Kirby ending was a nice touch.

This one was just too hilarious not to share. Aside from the obvious question of why the hell was a priest using a DS of all things to collect child porn, it turns out the entire thing snowballed into a full-on investigation of Rudolph Bullman's hard drives, finding even more child porn in the process. The Destructoid version of the story is here, with Jim Sterling at his snarkiest: http://www.destructoid.com/priest-sells-ds-forgets-there-s-child-porn-on-it-224340.phtml My favourite part of the whole shtick has to be this quote:
Jim Sterling wrote:
67-year-old Rudolph “Rudy” Carl Bullman admitted using the Nintendo handheld to access gay porn sites, but claimed he only ever visited pages that clearly stated the models were of age. After agreeing to let detectives search his computer, they found images of kids as young as twelve.
I just find it hilarious that Mr. Bullman went out of his way to clarify exactly which type of porn he was actually searching for. Just make sure to have this in the background while you're reading. Link to video

I'll just leave this here ;) Link to video Seriously though, I like many others here was annoyed by the music and couldn't get through this run, and I was going to vote no. But then I realized, this game has a moonwalking egg. How many fecking games do you know that have a motherloving moonwalking egg in them?! So I upgraded my no vote to a meh. It looks tight and optimized, but it was a bad game choice aesthetically. EDIT: put in the wrong video. Derp. Now it's fixed.

I decided to necro this thread rather than start a new one. Now that I've finished my run of the Metal Gear Solid single-player campaign and antd apparently lost interest in VR Missions two years ago, I thought I could step in and do this TAS myself. It will be a lot less stress on my part than MGS, since each mission is self-contained and therefore long term planning isn't needed. It appears that, in order to unlock the "time attack" option for various categories, you have to have completed all the appropriate missions in practice mode first. Since I think it would be incredibly boring to watch every mission done twice, I am once again starting from SRAM, with a memory card that has completed every practice-mode mission but leaves the time-attack mode untouched. In order to avoid the same kind of problems I encountered with my MGS run, I am doing my verification movie first. I will try to do some general planning as I create the movie verifying the memory card I will use for this TAS. If you'd like, I can post WIPs of the verification movie to see what kind of ideas I can gather from playing this semi-casually. There is also a YouTube playlist of every VR mission in the game done by Omgarett, which you can find right here. I'm really excited to start working on MGS-like speedrunning again without having to go through the same aches and pains as last time!

I'm curious as to how the pair of you got around to manipulating the treasure hunt levels. Is there some kind of RAM watch, or skipping the previous cutscene on a certain frame, or what?

So guys, check this out. For my next TAS, I'm going to redo Metal Gear Solid in Polish. The codecs will be even longer, but I don't care, dammit, that free-publicity controversy will be MINE! MWAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! And anyway, I though abeshi's run was scorned because it sucked, regardless of whether or not it was in Japanese. I will be able to watch this later today, and will cast my vote once I've seen it in full.

Okay, so I'm going to respond to a few enquiries now: This BIG BOSS run doesn't look stealthy so what's the point of having that category? The guards in MGS1 are really, really stupid and only tend to patrol on specific paths. A regular non-stealth run would involve just running in an even straighter line and dodging the occasional bullet. The difference between a normal run and a BIG BOSS run becomes much more pronounced in the later games once the AI improves. And because DarkKobold made a comparison to Hitman: getting Silent Assassin rank on missions, especially in the later games, involves a LOT of waiting, while Metal Gear stealth runs are still fast-paced as well as sneaky. I want a plot run! As you might have noticed during Liquid's speech, PSXjin does a really bad job at emulating voice acting in this game. And at any rate, there's an excellent five-hour longplay done by RickyC if you really want a plot fix. Also I agree that a Twin Snakes run would be great as well, but there's so many changes it's practically a different game altogether.

It means not getting caught AT ALL. The story requires you to get caught four times, but naturally I avoid one of them anyway (you're supposed to get caught by Johnny Sasaki when you escape from jail, but I knock him out before he has time to sound the alarm).

I'm about halfway through. Obviously great run so far. However, I'm taking issue with the branch name. It seems like a sub-goal choice. Additionally, I don't think a secondary run would exist with a different goal choice, i.e. more kills. Generally, the point of branch names is to allow for additional movies. So, I'm planning to remove it unless someone has specific objections.
BIG BOSS is a very specific speedrunning goal. The dev team has even acknowledged it, as there's an (admittedly generous) time cap in addition to other BIG BOSS requirements. Every main numbered game in the series has a BIG BOSS run category (except for MGS3, where it's called FOXHOUND because BIG BOSS would be anachronistic).

I'm sorry, I'll have to throw in a "no" vote as well. Although I will admit that seeing Bugs Bunny here channel his inner Tasmanian Devil/Crash Bandicoot was rather amusing for a while.

Someone was asking earlier for a cleaner memory card. Well here's one that includes only VR data and one extra savefile with unlockables on it, and I have confirmed that it syncs with the movie. http://www.4shared.com/file/KDYd7ic-/Mcd001.html

Ah, the childhood memories! I too played the PS1 version, but it's great seeing this game TAS'd no matter what version (except the GBA one of course :P). A weak yes vote, though I agree with Warepipe about wanting to see a 100% run, preferrably ending with a run of Skate Heaven as Spider-Man.

Even though you don't need the extra yes vote, I'll throw it in anyway. I've always enjoyed the Mega Man TAS's that use dashing much more than the static running; it adds to the excitement and seemingly-reckless nature of the run and makes it far more entertaining.

I too enjoyed this run for its creativity, TAS-looking gameplay and overall style. Consider this another yes vote added to your collection.

Nice, was waiting to see if it was actually possible not to take damage at the jeep escape. But GarlandTheGreat was right.
Yeah, and it's such bullshit too! You're right next to the exploding barrel you have to blow up, and Otacon won't move the jeep until you've blown up the barrel, which explodes in your face! There's also unavoidable damage during the first roadblock, and intentional/beneficial damage when Liquid is chasing you for the last time.
