This hack of rockman 4 is different from the original rockman 4. Weapons have new attacking mode, more hiden tools hide in different enemies or places, and we can also read a more interesting story. The enemies in this hack are originated from all of rockman games, which include rockman X and rockman Z.

Weapons introduction

  • spark manbow: Get from brightman. You fire lightbulbs which explode. If you hold B, the lightbulb hold on megabuster. If you push B with UP,the flash attack is done.
  • toad: Get from toadman. You emit the special wave which turns the enemies. No turning enemies are damaged. The traps are also damaged. Mystery force may affect the gimmick.
  • drill torpedo: Get from drillman. You fire three drills which guided to the floor or ceiling. drills pierces everything. If you push B again, you can re-fire.
  • pharaoh shotgun:Get from pharaohman. You scatter bullets ahead. This is chargeble, and you can attack above you when charging. If you push B again, you can re-fire.
  • holdable control ring boomerang: Get from ringman. You throw the ring shaped boomerang toward 8 direction. If you hold B, rings hold in air. Rings can catch items.
  • recycle inhaler: Get from dustman. You inhale close enemies and turn it into an item. The traps are also inhaleble. Not inhalable enemies take damages. Let's inhale various things.
  • water cutter: Get from diveman. You shoot out the high-pressured water toward 8 direction. If you push B again, you can re-fire. This is effective to the fire enemies.
  • hell wheel: Get from skullman. You can charge to enemies with skull wheel. You can stop if you push B when running. You can turn with D-PAD.
  • rush search: Same to rockman 7. Rush may dig the life energy in certain situation(boss room). It costs 9!
  • rush cannon: You load Rush in megabuster and fire. When he hit the enemy or wall, grand explosion occurs. One shot from this should kill any enemy, but this may be dodged. It costs 14!
  • wish star: You send the enemies to another dimension and charge them repeatedly with rush. More and more power is performed when in a pinch. It costs 28!
  • wire: You throw wire hook and you can move to hung place. Throwing direction is controled by D-PAD. You can jump when rolling up wire.It costs 0!
  • balloon: You generate the small balloon below. You can control the balloon on. You can fire megabuster when the balloon exists. It costs 10!
  • super star: This is what was attached on shadow man's forehead. This amplifies cruelty. This increases the critical chance( 1/256 to 4/256) and the critical damages( 3 times to 5 times damages).
  • metall's helmet: This is a hard hat of a metall. For this have broken a bit when recycleing, this may be useless. This sometimes reduces damages.

tips

  • Use the buttons A and B on the 2P to switch weapons.
  • To reach the fastest, I selected the first level of the skullman, because the weapon can make rockman run faster.
  • If a buster's bullet damages a boss, he will get a very long unbeatable time. To save more time, I would rather make critical damages than make damages as soon as possible.
  • In ringman level, I jumped up to get the best result, which means the appear of the three enemies, in 4 frames when I have been the mid-boss room, so that I could eliminate all of the enemies before they disappear.
  • At the mid-boss room in drillman level, hurting the enemy before he lands can cause a fatal damage, so I shoot at him as soon as possible to save time.
  • At the beginning of dustman level, the transfer belts make Rockman speed up or slow down, so I jump to avoid slow down when move in opposite and run to speed up when move direct.
  • When the explosion of Rush Cannon occurs, I switch a weapon to avoid extra lags.
  • Switching weapons can clean the bullets.
  • The rain in toadman level can make Rockman move faster when he is over the ground.
  • Pharaohman can use magic to influence Rockman, but the effects can be cleaned by toad.
  • After 3 stages finished, Rockman will get Rush Cannon. After 6 stages finished, Rockman will get Wish Star.
  • The whale in diveman level can not be defeated by Cannon because Rush is being used. Only busters can cause Enker damages.

Other comments

There are interesing shows in dustman, toadman, Wily 2, Wily 3, Wily 4 stage.

improvable ideas

  • More traits of hell wheel and wire can be used.
  • In the second to last stage, the helmet can decrease the damages to save the time of switching weapon.
  • Shoot at the mid-boss in drillman level later.
  • The 4 frames wasted in ringman level should be saved.
  • Better route:skullman, ringman, drillman, brightman, diveman, toadman, pharaohman, dustman
  • Less lags in skullman, drillman, diveman, toadman, C1, C3, W1, W4 (C=Cossack,W=Wily)

Noxxa: Judging.
Noxxa: Added YouTube module.
Noxxa: While a few bits could be done better and the playaround sections could've used some more work, it did not stop the run from being highly regarded as entertaining, and the time attack itself doesn't have significantly major flaws. Accepting for Moons tier.

To be fair, MM5 is probably the most interesting TAS among the games from MM3 to MM6, largely because the Super Arrow can be abused well beyond what a realtime run can do. There's lots of opportunities of luck-manipulating weapon powerups just in time for more arrow usage. Also, that game has more out-of-bounds glitches and graphical corruption than the other games. All of that makes it a fairly good game to show off what a TAS can do (back when the Stars meant "recommended for first-timers"). Now that I've seen this run, I agree it's pretty awesome. I didn't know you could kill as many bosses as quickly as you do with the Rush Cannon, and I liked seeing critical hits put to good use. I'm in favor of giving this a star... but that doesn't necessarily mean MM5 should lose its star. Those Star decisions shouldn't be related.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I had no expectations, and I was pleasantly surprised. The level design looks very good, and except for the first level, the entire run is fast and dynamic. Yes vote.

As I see this hack is heavily influenced in Kirby, it's just a note though because I really like it. Also liked the metroid style upgrades. Anyway, yes vote.

Ehh... Should I be honest? The movie was well made, but... I didn't like watching Skull Man's stage (I blame the constant charging with the Mega Buster) and the balloon/jet section of Cossack 1 (too many missed shots). I also don't like how the movie ends while you still have control of Mega Man (in my opinion, it should end as soon as the life bar and the timer disappear). In the end, I give it a Yes vote, but it's not a strong one, for the reasons mentioned above.

Post #62041 Also, right after Megaman 5 by Baxter was published, Bisqwit moved the star from his own run to Baxter's, and it was there until we had a new Megaman 2.

Thanks for giving me a Yes vote. Considering your advises, I'd adjust my further performance accordingly.

On the topic of the movie ending early: There's a precedent for games ending input as early as possible and still reaching the end, especially when it makes the ending amusing (donkey kong country 1 where your partner lands the final hit for you, super mario world, symphony of the night where the medusa shield does the killing for you, etc). Whether to go for earliest input end or earliest point where the game is finished is a stylistic choice.

I know, I know. It's just that I don't really like the way this movie ends, because taking a lot of damage from the spikes before the game ends proper doesn't exactly look good... at least in my opinion.

Oh, yeah, the ending. It looked very odd and unexpected (get rid of all but 1 HP), I loved it here.

To tell the truth, I am considering to modify the end to take no damages.

I liked the end as it is now.

I totally agree with Mothrayas. To me ending input as early as possible is a sign of optimization and not one of pure aesthetics; see [2139] GBA The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past "Palace of the Four Sword" by Tompa & Yuzuhara_3 in 05:16.73 for a technique that resulted in a rather large improvement, which is a neat example to support my view.

I spent over a week playing through MI. I spent more time escaping the exploding fortress than this playthrough spends on the whole game... This is a fantastic playthrough!

Maybe it is impossible, because to collect all hiden tools, I have to sacrifice a friend.

Mega Man dies after input ends, by popping up into the last spike ceiling. My checksum matches, but I'm still on FCEUX 2.1.4a; how likely is that to be the problem?

FCEUX had sync changes after 2.1.4.

According to my own experiences and this webpage, the max hero score for v0.01 is 96/100. (or rather, 96/102.) https://sites.google.com/site/rockman4mi/secret-items
BONUS: It is impossible to get 5/5 in version 0.01. The max you can get is 1/5.
If you're aiming for a perfect score, 10/12 is enough; the categories add up to 102.

Until the hack's scoring system is complete (this is only v0.01 after all), I don't see any reason for one to do a "max score"/96% run yet, as it would become obsolete pretty fast when the next version comes out.
