We need it for the Magic Meter. Unfortunately, there's no way to RBA that. That we know of, at least.

Are you going to post some details, or are we going to be left in the dark until you and SL finish? Though I prefer Guano's weekly updates and WIPs over "surprise submissions," it's completely up to you, of course.

did anybody actually try using... say a magic arrow .... without having the magin meter? maybe the game thinks you have the default value (full meter) if you have no meter yet? they might've assumed that you wont get magic items before the meter? just an attempt at helping :P

Yeah, we have. It just gives you the same thing as if you had no magic left. This is probably because it is possible to get Fire Arrows without magic in a normal game, so they had to do something about it. Meanwhile, in Majora's Mask, no magic meter means infinite magic. Naturally that's the game where there's no known way to skip it.

Here's a random thought: What happens if, as adult Link, you try and finish the unfinished dodongo's cavern?

everything's the same I think, only difference is that the cutscenes will be a bit weird with AL.

Anyway whoever is doing this run can post the route they will use?

How come the exact button inputs for the ToT skip haven't been given? A lot of people want to try this glitch so it would be immensely helpful.

I'm assuming AKA is doing one of the following: 1. Working on a WIP to show it currently. 2. Busy doing something else. 3. Keeping the input secret so that: a) Someone doesn't try to release a cheap knockoff run thats low in quality b) Other cool tricks being worked on in the run that are being kept secret aren't ruined. Personally I scourn at 3, and I hope for 1.

I'd love to see an unoptimized test run that shows off what glitches will be used on the final version. Maybe just record at 1/4th realtime except for the glitch areas which need a lot of rerecording. I'd just love to see something watchable so I know what to expect when it's ready. Then when the real thing comes out, you will have saved 5 minutes compared with the test run.

This game gets weirder all the time. Insane amount of improvement, but no published runs to show for it! I like the way the publication of SM64 went a lot more, if you look at the various obsoleted runs, you can see a nice evolution of tricks being discovered. This game on the other hand, will have only a long-assed, run through that was only decently optimized, then an amazing glitch fest that anyone would be proud of.

Well... Mario 64 is now a 5 minutes run. OoT is 2 hours 30 minutes. That may have something to do with the speed at which runs are obsoleted ;)

OoT is now below 1 hour it seems, so it should be quicker now. :)

Trouble is, this discovery means a total re-do, as it diverges from the old run after it gets the sword and shield.

Hot off the presses from SDA... This is for those of you who are curious about the route, but I am not too sure if a TAS runner will deviate from this seeing as how you currently cannot get back past the DoT without save warping. -Get sword and shield -Escape the forest -Get Kakariko Cucco bottle -Go to Lake Hylia, get bottled bugs and set Scarecrow song with Ocarina Items glitch -DoT skip -Something to get past the DoT as an adult??? -Get hylian shield, hookshot, and pocket egg -Go to lake hylia, renew scarecrow song and use it to steal the rod/get deku sticks on B -By then the pocket cucco should hatch, use it to RBA black guantlets into your inventory -Get Cojiro and head to DC -Go through DC up to bombs and then RBA with cojiro for a quiver -Head toward goron city -use the lost woods warp to get to the guy and get odd mushroom -Go back to goron city, to kakariko and get the odd potion -trade the odd potion for poachers saw and RBA to get songs -head to the top of death mountain and get magic -use prelude to warp to ToT and reequip sword -steal epona -get the broken gorons sword and head to lake hylia to steal the rod again -RBA for medallions and warp to the ToT to get light arrows -Do the ganon trials skip glitch and head up the tower to kill him Credits for this route go to ZFG for the basic skeleton and the child section, me for thinking up most the adult section, and ZAR for putting the two together. Of course none of this would be possible without the DoT skip which came from the efforts of Samoht, Kazooie, and AKA so thank you to them. :)

You can reset in a TAS.

The mupen with reset-recording isn't officially accepted on the site, for these reasons (note: I couldn't find DeHackEd's original post but this will do)

Yes you can in a record reset version of mupen. No that version has not been accepted from the judges.

hey AKA do you know if SL is going to finish his TAS now, or is he going to start an BA TAS? Personally I think the dungeon TASes would provide more entertainment, but idk if that would be accepted because it is not the fastest way to do the game

I don't know what SL's priorites are atm, but the new run will go for fastest time at all costs. Technically you could have another category of all dungeons/temples but whether the community would be willing to accept that is up to debate.

There are plenty of examples on this site of a movie being published even if it's not "the fastest way". Look at Zelda 2 and Rygar. They are published because they show off more of the game. Some even prefer the longer movies like you said you would; for example, I like the longer Rygar a lot better because of better pacing and more glitches showcased.

Yes thats how i feel, TASes are meant to be entertaining, and dungeons show off many awsome glitches in close proximity. After seeing SL's Deku Tree TAS i rlly think he should pursue a non BA run. In my opinion BA runs will have the awsome DoT skip and amazing for people who have never seen BA b4, but will end up being boring overall since they will be mostly just going through the trading sequence/catching things with bottles in addition to the occasional glitch.

I agree. IMO, the most entertaining run would be one that completes all dungeons, without collecting all heart pieces and skulltula tokens. There should be three categories: DoT skip/BA, non DoT skip/BA, 100%.

Too many categories gets confusing. Though I do admit that I would have loved to see the Water Temple TASed. Someone really needs to make acronym sheets for each of the games that have a lot of acronyms. It gets annoying not knowing what the heck people are talking about.
