Yeah, how strange - it's almost as if I noted some things about a subset of the community and made a claim about its influence on the future of said community. You might even get real wacky and say I based it on the following trends: (1) The popularity of this game rather than its TASing potential dominating this ever-inflating thread (2) Increasing interest in N64 tool-assistance (cut-scenes anyone?) (3) Increasing general popularity of this site, which brings the increased possibility of people turning to this site when SDA isn't bringing them their shiny new run fast enough I guess it wasn't as obvious as I thought. IMAGINE THAT.

No one would recognize it as a glitch because it is not a glitch. It's a trick by manipulating the control input vs visual output, per se. Either way, I'm investing all of my support here in JXQ Inc. The last thing we need is to start drawing people in to this community for misguided/misinterpreted reasons.

But we do try to draw in interested viewers- why would we make these movies if no one was to watch them?

Personal pleasure, mostly. The satisfaction of completing something and having enough pride in it that we would wish to share it with our peers. The ability to showcase your own talents. I, personally, do not run for the sake of others or for the sake of setting some abtruse record: the satisfaction of setting out to meet a goal that you set for yourself is more than enough of a reasoning for my work. So, uhh, I wonder if some mod is going to move all of this chatter to a new thread?

I second that, out of three pages only one gleam of useful information came out, namely Guano's post about his plan for the run.

Happy B-day Gbowl! Hurray no wasting time for turning the camera. I think this is a good decision by Gbowl. Every frame counts, you work so hard to save 1 frame all the time, it would be such a shame to let some slip away for cosmetics. I do not think any of the non-newbie OoT speedrunning enthusiasts well mind much if the camera is not facing forward for some stretches. I think it looks fine. I am exicted that this run can start off fresh without desynching problems. Now could someone PLEASE test when guards appear so we'll know if it just a matter of making it there a second earlier or if we're dealing with something else all together and whole new route will have to be used. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Is Guano still using the same video plugin? It sort of sucks compared to the one he used before, and it doesnt seem to reduce the amount of desyncs either. For my mupen, the gln64 just looks like its missing some layers and such when i play games, but the Jabo's Direct one looks just like the game on n64. I dont know how it looks for other people. About the guards, i think that its a great idea to have someone just test when they are there or not. Someone should get that tested before he restarts this again. Also, there is no way in hell im going to read that flamewar. I just totally skipped over all of that. :-P (but i do think there is absolutely no point in turning the camera)

You get there via Link's house -> Lost Woods, right? So after you get arrows, you play Requiem, and then kill yourself? Then you end up in Link's house again, right? It seems like it would be ok. You don't lose any time, unless you need the boomerrang, bombs in Spirit...

There isn't any point in doing Forest Temple as a child. Much slower, and you can't beat the boss.

And then there's that minor detail that if you DID somehow beat the boss, the game freezes.

We weren't actually arguing about the frames at all. I'm not surprised you missed the subtext, though. JXQ and I are subtle bastards.

I'm sure that argument was triggered by one delayed jump costing 5 frames, which then completely de-railed the thread.

Again, I'm not surprised you missed the true nature of the conflict when there was all this hand waving about WMDs. I'll let you in on a dirty little secret, though -- there were no WMDs!

Guano, good news there is a quicker way to enter the Tower in Ganon's Castle although you still need to get the bombchu's in the Spirit chamber, because the light arrows are on B. Do you what you see in this video but with a well timed backflip and you'll be able to enter the tower. Obviously you perform the superslide the same as before but without Nayru's Love. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_AFegIKIGs

err... hey guys... I was toying with the debug rom, and I think those damned guards are always there UNLESS you activate some trigger (which I currently ignore)...

You mean getting only 1 spiritual stone would be the trigger? I thought GB proved otherwise?

I will check this out right now EDIT: hmm... tried several different combinations of medallions/equipment and nothing made them go away... I remembered something useful too... those guys are there at daylight if we have already spoken to Zelda. So, I guess either Guanobowl made something that could only be done after talking to Zelda (and the game assumed it was already accomplished) or he didn't do something (like the owl when he was returning from Kakariko)

GB said he advanced the day, and the guards left. Maybe 1 day HAS to pass between beating a temple and meeting Zelda?

hmm... maybe (that didn't work here, but it's debug anyway)

For the guards to permanently be there you need to have already met Zelda or activated the Ganondorf cutscene, which requires three stones, you could skip that cutscene by using 10 million bomb hovers to get up to the drawbrige and drop down into the loaded area, but when I further tested meeting Zelda with all 3 Spiritual stones (after Ganondorf has been met. Impa didn't appear after the Zelda conversation, although she should appear there if you have all 3 Spirtual stones without meeting Ganondorf. I'll test that later though Its likely that the Wold howled some time during the fadeout when Guano was climbing through the tunnel. I estimated that he had 1:22 left, but when I watches a video he only had 1:08, so the owls must cost 6-7 seconds when they fly away.

It just occured to me that during the Forest Temple it should be possible to do without the Boss key or killing poes, because when you glitch to the bottom floor you should be able to stand on the boundarys of the floor cross over rooms until you eventually get into the boss room. This of course would be near impossible in real time since the areas aren't loaded and so you won't be to judge movements very well.

Those who sees this must accept that TAS'es almost skips the whole game..
