Submission Text Full Submission Page
This is the very first Animal Crossing (GC) TAS to ever be submitted. I have no idea why no one has submitted a TAS of this game yet, but after all these years one has finally been submitted.

What IS this game?

Animal Crossing is a life-simulator game released by Nintendo in 2002 (In the US. There was an N64 version in 2001, then a GameCube version in the same year in JP which was localized to be Animal Crossing in the US. Yep, weird port-localization mess). There's many things that you could do, like talk to your villagers, hit your shovel onto rocks for money, pay off your debt to upgrade your house, and much more. This is the first game in the series, with others following up afterwards such as "Animal Crossing: Wild World" for the DS (All the way up to "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" for the Switch).

Explanation

The goal is to finish all the jobs given by Tom Nook in the fastest time possible, as well as introduce the villager to all the animals (And the mayor) in the village. The luck with not having a villager job in the first try and going to the houses and the wishing well without having to look at the map is an additional bonus for this TAS to speed things up.
The reason why there's only 39 rerecords is because the TAS was made in a span of 2 hours, using Dolphin's game speed setting to slow down the game to 40% in most cases. I mostly didn't make any mistakes, except for stuff like at the end where I didn't advance Tom Nook's message box as fast at one point.
This TAS is simply just the part time work at the beginning of the game because as that is the first TAS submission of Animal Crossing, I wanted the first one to be simple enough.

Other Comments

If you want, let me know what you think of this TAS! I don't think this'll get published, but if it does, great! I just wanted to submit this so I created an account to do so. Yes, this is my first TAS, ever. I'm also new to the site lol

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: Greetings TheSunGodNika. Welcome to our community. By now, you are probably aware that your submission is not meeting the standards for a publication. At first, I thought we had a modified category to the existing WR, but instead it appears to be called by a simiiar name. Either way, I watched your run against the WR and there is definitely a problaby here. As stated in the threads, this submission is not even close to beating the fastest known record. As also stated, these kind of runs take time...instead of the admited 2 hours. I would expect a few hours a day for 2 weeks to produce much better results and possibly nail the RNG needed in order to progress as the WR holder did.
It is understandable that you are excited about your work and wanting to get something submitted. I shared this same scenario, when I first joined. Hopefully you will dig into things and get a better version out for us to judge. After all, it is not too late to be that first person to get a successful TAS published for this game....but don't be too quick. It would be nice to see you suceed in getting a TAS accepted.
Rejecting this on the basis of optimization.

Could you explain what’s going on in the TAS? I’m not familiar with the game or its speedruns. What is the goal? Additionally, why are there only 39 rerecords?

I decided to better up the TAS summary, so now it's updated to explain the TAS and even the game itself.

speedrun.com has a category for "Chores & Credits", which involves finishing the part-time job and then talking to the K.K. Slider to roll the credits. The world record is 12:35, which is about 2 minutes faster than this submission. For a run to be acceptable, it has to match or beat all known records. There are noticeable sub-optimal actions in the submission, such as taking a detour when a more straight path is possible, slight delays in menuing and advancing texts, and typing more letters than required (especially in the bulletin board). It would be possible to fix those errors using more rerecords. Also, I'm not well-versed in this game, but just sharing something I noticed: the RTA route talks to the villagers first, then enters Tom Nook's store to receive the first task. It seems to save time by skipping the "greet everyone" task and all dialogue accompanied by it.

Didn’t watch this yet as I’m not too familiar with a animal crossing speedrun or TAS, but will have to say that the quality overall for the submission seems to be lacking a little bit. Not to be crude, but I’m pretty the animal crossing game I’ve played was that darn Mario Party ripoff on the Wii U. Meh vote.

I agree with the other posts in that this doesn't seem to be optimized enough for publication (although I am not too familiar with the game either). No vote.
SMB2U is the best NES Mario game.

Hello SunGodNika! There were some things I wanted to note about your TAS. This category on speedrun.com is called "Chores & Credits", which completes the part-time job and talks to K.K. Slider to activate the credits. The world record for that category is 12:35, which is close to 2 minutes faster than this TAS. There's also a Golden Rod TAS that completes the chores in 12:25. For this to be accepted, it would have to beat all known records [The movie must be technically sound]. Since there is a credits sequence with K.K. Slider, I also think it makes sense to end this movie after activating it. Games like this usually need to be worked on over longer amounts of time. The movement looks sloppy in some areas, sometimes dialogue isn't skipped immediately, and using two exclamation points `!!` instead of one `!` prints an extra character each time the name is said. Sufficient optimization is expected for any TAS submitted here. You don't need to rush to make a TAS, feel free to watch over your own work and improve on everything you can. Look up other speedruns or a TAS of the game so you can implement the same strategies. If you or anyone else makes an Animal Crossing submission in the future, for any game in the series, there are 3 big things I think need to be handled: 1. A good town map. This means having most / all buildings close to each other to complete every objective quickly. Compared to an example I found on the forums, this map has very spread out buildings. In the forum map, all 6 villager houses are within 4 acres of each other, with Nook's Cranny right above them, and a Post Office right next to it. 2. Some amount of luck manipulation. Villagers with the shortest names and the shortest catch phrase (e.g. Nan says "kid", Ace says "ace") need to be prioritized, otherwise time is lost to printing extra characters. 3. This one kind of falls into the above. In Wild World the chores that Nook give you are randomized. You need a chore that makes him say the least dialogue and gives the least amount of work. Entering acres on different frames changes the RNG, which could help with having to do a chore for a closer villager instead of one further away. (Assuming chores are random like they are in Wild World)
