I'm more familiar with Chessmaster than Battle Chess, but if it's like the former it should have a very small opening book. If you play a common opening, it should play from book instead of wasting a lot of time thinking.

unfortunately battle chess has no opening book theory so it will take a long time to move regardless

how about: g4 e5 f4 qh4 for an unexpected twist? [edit] g4 e5 f3 qh4 slightly faster

Where would that fit in? EDIT: Lol, never mind. That's great! A wonderful game! Well, I optimized the input for frame perfection. Thanks to some moves that adelikat suggested, the movie is now less than 22 minutes long. Since my file host is still having server issues, you can get it here. I'm aware that the move 6. Qxg6 hxg6 would be faster, but I think that the fight between the rook and the queen is more entertaining than the one between the pawn and the queen. I'd like your opinions on this, however. If you want to fast forward to the computer's moves, here are the frame numbers: 1. 4000 2. 26400 3. 48400 4. 53300 5. 57900 (the take-backs occur after this one) 6. 77900 I have the movie and the save states at those frames in a zip file. If anyone would like it, I'll be in the chatroom.

Believe it or not, this game has full-frontal nudity on the PC version.

The slowest paced TAS since Frontline? This is tool assisted waiting. I was quite bored, even when I sped it up. Maybe I am missing something, but... Seems like this is a baaad game to TAS.

1) did you check to see how many frames slower Qxh7 is vs Qxg6? if the number is too great then it may not be worth it. its worth checking [edit] it tested it and Qxh7 is 521 frames slower than Qxg6 2) until move move 3, g6 this computer makes the same moves at level 1. what about not switching to level 5 until then? that way the computer moves very fast for the first 2 moves. you will get the same outcome, but save several mintues of computer thinking; which this movie is in serious need of [edit] i just tried a test run, and playing the 1st 2 moves as novice saved about 18,000+ frames!

If you guys are doing this run just to showcase the takebacks glitch, why are you worried about playing at the highest skill level at all? Especially since the movie is so slow ... this is probably one of those cases where everyone would agree the "play it on the hardest setting" guideline is worth ignoring.

my best: 1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nh6 4. d4 ED 5. Bxh6 GxH6 6. Qxf7++ It should've been obvious that a computer of that standard would lose to a fools mate varient :P edit: sorry, hadn't realised someone else had already gottit

Wow. Can I vote for boringest run ever? Even at 1600% speed, I was bored. Anyone considering TAS a game like this should reconsider.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2122/BattleChess_bizarrestalemate.fcm Yet another bug in the take back feature resulting in a truly bizzare stalemate.

hmm, that is an interesting bug. A Pawn hidden as a queen, they won't expect a thing.

its not hidden as a queen, I can only move left one square (any other direction or distance registers as an illegal move).

I hope the thing I did on Chessmaster doesn't work on this game. Which is: 1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 Ke7 3. Qxe5#

8 minutes faster thanks to a different strategy. The run is now 13:37 long: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3037/Battle%20Chess%20%28U%29_2%20FractalFusion.fcm Move list: 1. e4 @4000 1. .. e5 2. Bc4 @16500 2. .. Nf6 3. Qh5 @24000 3. .. Nxh5 4. Bxf7+ @29500 4. .. Kxf7 5. f3 @36000 5. .. Qh4+ 6. g3 Take back 3 times. @46000 3. .. Nxh5 Take back 3. .. .. (Black loses a move) 4. Qxf7# Numbers after @ are appoximate frame numbers for CPU moves. I highly suggest watching this on fast-forward (1600% speed).

wow 13min is much faster. Though this would still be the most boring TAS ever. I appreciate it though :)

Am I the only one who chuckled at this? I'm reminded when I did Metroid Zero Mission in one sitting and got 1:33:37 on accident. (I'm not a speed oriented player when I play casually)
Signature under contruction, still.

I picture two men sitting, playing a serious game of chess, and suddenly they are distracted by the giant spinning wheel from Wheel of Fortune, which lands on "LOSE A TURN". Then that sound plays that goes "deeeeoooooooooooooo". Then white mates. One for the ages!

Battle Chess in 11:28: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3206/Battle%20Chess%20%28U%29%20FractalFusion%2011.28.fcm Virtually the same as the previous run, except I take back 2 (moves) and then 2, rather than 3 and then 1. It's not 1337 anymore. :) Move list: 1. e4 @4000 1. .. e5 2. Bc4 @16500 2. .. Nf6 3. Qh5 @24000 3. .. Nxh5 4. Bxf7+ @29500 4. .. Kxf7 5. f3 @36000 5. .. Qh4+ 6. g3 Take back 2 times. @39000 4. .. Kxf7 Take back 2 times 3. .. .. (Black loses a move) 4. Qxf7# Numbers after @ are appoximate frame numbers for CPU moves. As usual, I highly suggest watching this on fast-forward (1600% speed).
