I saw this one mentioned in the DS wishlist. I played the first 2 rooms in 1-2, and searched for x/y speed addresses (022366C9 = X speed, 022367E1 = Y speed, both 1 byte signed) However I hit 2 snags. One, I don't find it to be *that* entertaining (and optimizing it would be a pain) and two, the memory addresses change per room, which is not fun ever. Anyone wanting to try this can use the addresses (which applies to only the first room in 1-2, by the way) and write down what all the values are for different jumps, running, etc. Here is my test video

I'm starting a tas on this game, this will be very difficult to optimize I know but I really like this game and a TAS on this could be really impressive, I'm completely new at TASing so you're free to help me as much as possible. WIP : World 1 & 2 Link to video

I've found that DS emulator is kinda glitchy here and there. People are still running into a lot of bugs/crashes. Are there any other settings you put in or did you keep everything default?

Absolutely not. DeSmuME is the best emulator we have, second only to BizHawk. @Arkonali: you didn’t even explain your problem. What does “I can’t play the recording” mean? Does it give you an error? Does it desync? Explain properly.

I don't have an argument against that, I'm just going on recent troubles i've seen with jlun2 and kurabu. I am happy to see that work is still going on every once in a while though, http://sourceforge.net/p/desmume/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/desmume/src/

The only problems I remember reading about (and experiencing) are about the SRAM. I don’t think I’ve seen people complain about crashes…

So I was able to get farther into the movie (yet it desyncs). I was changing the settings around when I just decided to run around the game myself, which changed the game data from 0% to 1%. Then I tried the movie file, and it proceeded all the way into the first level, but desyncs for unknown reasons. I don't know if I got this from because save data is needed to get this far or I dont even know. I would recommend trying to redo a test TAS that starts from a fresh Desmume(no saves or anything), and So its something to do with the battery folder. If you delete everything inside of that, and try to play or even record a movie - it doesn't work (Unable to Read Data message). If you start the game but dont enter the first level, and then play the recording - it wont do anything after skipping the cutscene (Unable to write Data message). If you play thru the first level, then play recording, you just get a desync :P

The problem I had was "unable to read data" before the "nintendo" screen appeared, as solarplex And I tried with other games and I still have the problem so I don't know if it comes from my computer or something like that

Uh...not sure if it's computer based, or game specific, but I worked around it by making a savestate just before a savefile is created, then after the "unable to read data" message appears I reloaded the state and continued. It works for Over the Hedge. Incidentally, that game also seems to not clear SRAM when I playback movies.

Ok so with the last version of desmume I found a way to make it works, but i have to lose a couple of frame because of that, because I have to launch the game, reset it and then play normally, but at least it works

So that's it, first world finished, what do you think about this TAS for now ? I know it's probably not perfect but I really try to optimize the route as much as possible, again, if you have any idea to improve this TAS I will be very happy and thankful Link to video
