I had a crazy idea that just might work. From the Guidelines page:
Competition is welcome. * Many players compete with themselves, trying to improve their own movies until there's nothing to improve. This is good. * To prevent the players becoming too content with their plays, it's good to challenge existing movies. Competition breeds perfection.
Here's my challenge for any bored time attackers. Take a starred movie and improve it. Choose one that isn't yours, preferably. There's a couple of reasons to do this: *Improve the quality of movies on this site. *Imrpove your skills as a time attacker. *Push the limits. I'm taking Rockman 2. I now know how good Morimoto and FinalFighter really are. I've been working on the first SCREEN of Bubble Man's level for a couple of hours now. I am up 8 frames, though. =) This will not be easy for most of these movies. I wouldn't pick the SMB1 run unless you are crazy.
If for honesty, you want apologies, I don't sympathize.

Hmm...the only one I'd feel at all comfortable with is X2, and I don't know if Blechy's still working on it or not. Neat idea, though... There are a lot of very good non-star movies I could see myself improving, FWIW. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

I can agree with that too. Just went through the list of NES games, and here's some ones that would be tough to beat: Castlevania Contra Ghosts & Goblins Bionic Commando Kid Icarus - I watched the avi the other day, and it looks like it doesn't even use the 60FPS patch... Ninja Gaiden - all of them

I just tried the first screen of the bubbleman level for rockman 2 aswell, it's 10-11 frames faster than Morimoto and FinalFighter's.

I've tried Snake Rattle & Roll a bit, but I'm stuck in the second last pool of the level 8. I'm ahead a few timeunits in the beginning of that pool, but when completing that pool, I'm behind. I've also tried Arkanoid a bit, but it's very laborsome. I won't try touching Gradius. (I don't like the idea of trying to beat an artistical movie.) I'm already working at Rockman, as everyone surely knows. Genisto is supposedly working on SMB3j. (I'd like to see some progress though!) I'd like to try Umihara, but I have too much confidence in Blechy to try it. :) I've watched the Castlevania movie numerous times to see something I could improve, but so far not enough to go and try it. Most importantly, the luck abuse is difficult to understand. Phil & Genisto were incredibly lucky. I could try Ghosts & Goblins, although I have quite much faith in Arc's result. I keep Rockman as a project I'm already working on, and Snake Rattle&Roll as an open option.

I think a 'full' Ghosts and Goblins movie would be nice/more deserving of a star...

The Ninja Gaiden games would have no more than a few frames of improvement each (at most), unless someone discovers new glitches...there's almost no luck manipulation involved, so they're easy to optimize. I'm considering doing both the Alucard and Sypha routes in Castlevania 3, using the American version since it's more difficult. Contra and Super C are just begging for 2-player vids. Basically, I think almost any of the Famtasia vids that are still up could be improved by a decent amount. Castlevania stands out as probably the most difficult of those... Oh yeah, and I think Phil's admitted that Castlevania 4 is improvable by 10 seconds or so. -Josh

If anyone wants to take on Metroid, I made a Metroid Tricks page last week. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the Metroid topic, or on IRC, if I am on.
