A quick run-through of the first Kirby game ever released, which predates Kirby's ability to absorb enemy powers.
This run uses the 'Extra Game' password (up+select+A at title screen), which makes the enemies and bosses much more aggressive and damaging than usual.
This is a 32 second improvement over the previous movie by Spezzafer.

Skate or Die - Bad 'n Rad is the only game in the Skate or Die series to be developed by Konami instead of EA. In this game, our unnamed skateboarder shreds through a mix of side-scrolling and top-down levels. There are enemies and bosses after him, who he can attack by jumping in the air and bashing them with his skateboard.
JXQ proves he's both bad and rad as he rolls straight through the obstacles, precisely avoiding damage and making the game look easy.

Note: The credits in the encode end halfway through due to an emulation error crashing the game at that point.

In this run, JXQ makes good use of the various items available and performs many feats of wonder to practically fly or slide through the game, occasionally stopping to deliver a couple dozen of critical hits to a nearby boss. That said, it is the fastest paced GBA Castlevania run (despite being the longest of them all) — so if you like the series, this is the movie to watch.
However, if you still find this movie to be too long, make sure to see the second quest completed in less than half a minute!
Selected quotes from the author: Come follow on the adventure through a castle that contains no less than eighty clashing colors in each room! Be amazed as Juste Belmont, Simon's grandson, has to do the usual vampire hunting despite looking nothing like his grandfather (or a man at all). Question his motives when he takes time out of his rescue mission to decorate the basement he will soon destroy! Feel the pain as Juste struggles to understand that there actually are two castles!! (Ouch my brain!)

In Speedy Gonzales: Aztec Adventure, Sylvester the cat has kidnapped all the mice from Speedy's village, and our super fast hero races to rescue them. There are weapons he can pick up to fight enemies along the way, as well as speed boosts to help him jump over dangerous obstacles like spike pits.
If you're looking for more Speedy Gonzales action, we also have a run of Speedy's SNES game.

Jason and his magical jumping tank, "S.O.P.H.I.A.", are back, this time in glorious 16-bit graphics (and not so glorious sound). Much like its predecessor, the player must alternate between sidescrolling and overhead views to collect parts for the tank and vanquish evil.
This movie abuses death to a large degree to obliterate the game in record time.

This is a hacked version of Sonic the Hedgehog. The title character is replaced by his rival, Knuckles. The levels remain unchanged.
There is more than just an appearance change to this game. Knuckles' abilities remain intact. If you haven't seen Sonic the Hedgehog completed before, you may wish to do so before seeing what a character with a spindash and gliding can accomplish.
There is also a run for a Tails hack of Sonic the Hedgehog, done by marzojr. It replaces Knuckles with Tails and gliding with flying.

Note: An IPS patch for the hack can be downloaded here: http://tasvideos-moviefiles.googlecode.com/files/ips%2Bpatcher.zip . It must be patched to REV 00.

Somewhat fast bouncing around. The lack of a spin-dash makes the strategy a bit different than the other Sonic runs, since it becomes a lot more important to preserve your momentum. Completed without collecting any emeralds.
This is the first run of this game. Just like Sonic 2, this game has been considered to be "cursed" for a long time, with many people trying to make runs and giving up halfway.

It's been a long time since a Bionic Commando TAS was submitted, but here we at last have a new version.
Note: The previous version was made with the Japanese version, whereas this version is made with the USA version. There was actually a large debate on this site regarding which version should be used -- both versions contain something good and something bad that the other does not. The question is still open, but in the mean time, here is this new movie. In where it matters, it is faster than the previous movie.

Kirby's Adventure is a colorful game that's very long for a NES game. Normal gameplay forbids the UFO from being taken from level to level, but using a bug discovered by kirbymuncher, JXQ manages to keep the UFO, and blazes through much of the game using it. The speed with which he defeats midbosses and bosses is often very surprising.
This movie is several minutes faster than the previous unpublished movie by kirbymuncher, and is well over ten minutes faster than the original by Bisqwit.
To see the game completed even faster, see this run, which uses an unusual glitch involving the Stone ability and water to activate the credits early.

This game consists of four heroes with very different strengths and weaknesses. The object (and fun) of the game is to use these traits to your advantage depending on the situation.

Selected comments from the author: It is a gem of a platformer released only in Japan. The controls have some Prince of Persia in them, but are not as demanding. The music is great and the graphics are pretty good. I'm surprised the game was never ported to the US or Europe.
The bosses of this game can be difficult due to a glitch that improperly resets the boss's vulnerability after being hit in certain circumstances.

Moon Crystal (ムーンクリスタル), a platformer only released in Japan, follows a boy through his quest to save his family. The mechanics of the game are slightly reminiscent of Ninja Gaiden and Prince of Persia, with rather detailed animation.
Items that can be obtained include boots which allow a double-jump maneuver, and a sword, which causes multiple hits when the character's energy is low. Bosses are defeated quickly by using this sword power-up, after taking enough damage to activate its extra power.

River City Ransom is a goofy game that deserves a goofy TAS. This movie showcases cool tricks and some glitches that don't necessarily result in the fastest completion. We also have a movie which aims for speed.

Shatterhand is a bit like Batman. However, Shatterhand is longer, has no walljumps, and is a lot laggier. On the other hand, in this game, the main character can buy a powerup to give him a cool brown vest, doubling his punching power, and this vest lasts until the player takes damage three times (it even lasts between stages).
This movie by JXQ is about 108 seconds faster than the previous version by Juan. Most of the improvement comes from finding clever ways to reduce the immense lag that this game experiences at some points.

Viewers who have photosensitivity problems may want to avoid watching as there's a high amount of flashing visuals during boss fights that can become uncomfortable to watch.

Surprise Super Mario Bros 3. improvement from nowhere!
Apparently, the team of adelikat, Deign, Cardboard and JXQ had been working some time on this movie, which improves the previous movie by some 5.5 seconds (no small feat at this point), due to a wide variety of different improvements discussed in the submission message.
And of course, a wadload of extra lives are again achieved in the mandatorily slow autoscrolling levels.
For those that still prefer to see 99+ lives, the authors have also put together an alternate run that sacrifices time in order to gain those extra lives.

Super Mario World is a game which needs no introduction.
This movie beats the previous SMW movie by a mere 3 seconds. Strategically, this is very similar to the previous movie, but a new technique which involves keeping flight status through doors and pipes saved the majority of the time. This game is now extremely tightly optimized to minimize lag between levels.
This movie is a joint venture between Fabian and JXQ, but small and big optimizations were contributed by several people: skamastaG, thegreginator, mrz, jimsfriend, Flagitious and Arne_the_great.
