The second Castlevania title released on Nintendo DS after Dawn of Sorrow, this game is a direct sequel to Bloodlines on Sega Genesis. Dracula rises from the dead yet again (cue groan), and it's up to Jonathan Morris, helped out by Charlotte Austin, a powerful mage student, to defeat him.
The use of glitchy warps is not new to Castlevania runs, but what is new is the creative use of switching between the main characters for basic character movement. We dare you to not have "Jonasan! Sharotto! Jonasan! Sharotto! Jonasan! Sharotto!" stuck in your head after watching the run.
Be sure to read the submission text for explanations on the glitches used and the route choices.
In order to ensure that the weapon choice and route is optimal, the author created an alternate fully optimized test run with a new route. The run enters the final boss sooner with a weaker weapon, but spends more time fighting- so much so that 2/3ths of the movie is spent fighting Dracula! Despite using a newer version of the emulator to remove the lag issues of the published movie, the final time still comes to 47 seconds slower. The movie is different enough in execution to warrant a mention; see the canceled run.

Main improvements come from switching to a newer emulator version that helped eliminate most of the lag, better luck manipulation and optimized movement all around. The author has made a ghost script video for easier comparison. Be sure to read the previous version's submission text for explanations on the glitches used and the route choices.
In order to ensure that the weapon choice and route is optimal, the author created an alternate fully optimized test run with a new route. The run enters the final boss sooner with a weaker weapon (Final Sword), but spends more time fighting — so much so that 2/3 of the movie is spent fighting Dracula! Even though the emulator version was the same as the one used here, the final time is still over two minutes higher.

Set before the events of the first two NES games, the player gets to play as Christopher Belmont, one of Simon's ancestors.
Unlike most Castlevania games, there are no sub-weapons, and the player loses whip upgrades upon damage. Additionally, the Castlevania Game Boy games, unlike their NES counterparts, have ropes and moving spike walls instead of stairs.
This game, being one of the first to come out for the Game Boy, was programmed poorly, exhibiting lots of lag, and also suffers from poor jump controls. Seizing upon that, the level designers took it upon themselves to create fake difficulty by requiring pixel perfect jumps throughout.
In this movie, arukAdo eliminates lag by killing enemies as they appear on screen, destroying candles, collecting coins, and ducking when possible. In addition to that, luck is manipulated via pausing to prevent certain enemies from appearing or to force bosses to enter attack range sooner.
Note: The Konami Collection version was used instead of the original, as it lags a bit less, and is also fully colored.

For the fans of the Castlevania series ― here's a TAS of a Castlevania game that is hmm.. much much more aimed toward children than the darker-themed games. The game was only released in Japan.
There is also a Game Boy sequel that is known as Kid Dracula.
This is a 50+ second improvement over the previous movie by Phil and Genisto.

Commentary from adelikat and DarkKobold are available in the downloadable encodes and in closed captions on the YouTube link.

Ninja Spirit began life as an arcade game and since then has received many ports, including a Game Boy version and this version. It would be a stock platform game but for the ability to have up to two 'spirits' which behave like the options from Gradius.
This run is played on Arcade mode, where the character dies in one hit and bosses are stronger; the other available mode (appropriately titled PCE mode) allows taking more than one hit and is overall easier. People familiar with the game should be able to appreciate the difference, as Arcade mode is extremely challenging.

After having been resurrected by dark priest Shaft, Dracula set out to destroy Richter Belmont's home village and kidnap some of the important characters for him to rescue. One of them is Maria Renard, a 12-year-old vampire huntress who is used as the player character in the second half of the movie after getting freed by Richter.
Despite her prepubescent age, Maria is faster and stronger than Richter, and one can only guess how she managed to fall a victim to kidnappers in the first place. Unfortunately, all of her speed advantages become nullified by a lengthy cutscene following her release, making this TAS slightly longer than the Richter mode.
Note: As of 12 Aug 2009 the torrent has been replaced to fix the framerate and aspect ratio. Please redownload if you've acquired the file prior to that date.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (1993) is an important milestone in the Castlevania series and a predecessor to the even more successful Symphony of the Night. This game was ported two years later to the SNES as Dracula X.
In this installment of a popular TV show, a miserable little pile of secrets known as Richter Belmont is once again called to have it at a savior mankind needs so ill. Armed with his trusty key and a question mark nicknamed 'Vampire Killer', he makes sure no candleholder remains standing in Dracula's castle. Eager to just get it over with, he plows through without as much as a slightest regard to his purple-haired girlfriend and some other people still imprisoned there. It seems what little time one has to spare in a TAS is best spent moonwalking and yelling at the screen, anyway.
A slower version of this run taking only the regular stages is available. Due to this movie being faster, that submission was cancelled, yet there are arguably more entertaining moments in the cancelled submission (the author recommends stage 4 in particular).

Published on 12/28/2009
Contrary to the other Rondo of Blood TASes on the site, this one not only goes through the hurdles of saving three useless villagers from their prisons (with some of said prisons even resembling their regular habitats), but also plays through all the picturesque levels just to prove that Maria isn't really a suboptimal character. No videogame character fighting dark priests by stoning them to death with small white birds should ever be called suboptimal.
If you want to see a shorter run through the game, we suggest watching these: Richter any% in 23:18, Maria any% in 24:22.

Rather different from both the NES version and arcade versions of this game, this version of Double Dragon II features higher resolution graphics much closer to that of the SNES iterations of the series. Notably, many of the glitches present in the NES version are absent here, yielding slower yet arguably no less entertaining gameplay.

In this obscure title for an obscure platform, our ninja hero must fight his way through a horde of enemy ninja who attack from every angle in order to rescue the girl.
Join arukAdo in this exciting adventure as he slices through his enemies and their defenses like a hot chainsaw through fresh butter (and beats up the girl too).
We also have an alternate version of this run which plays on hard difficulty. The only difference between difficulty levels is enemy hit points, which is normally grounds for playing on the easiest possible difficulty (to improve speed and entertainment).

Not only was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX but also the first PSX game to have a published run here. Follow Dracula's son Alucard as he glitches through the castle on a quest to end his father's life.
The authors, arukAdo and pirate_sephiroth, use major route changes to improve that first published PSX run by 1 minute and 18 seconds.
A 100% run covering the whole castle is also available here. If you prefer the main character to have muscular bare arms and to pray to the rain gods to defeat bosses, you may enjoy the Richter version. If you want to see a run on Replay mode that can skip many cutscenes, see this run.

Note: Due to an emulation error, the audio in the ending FMV sequence doesn't play.

Like most games in the Castlevania series, Symphony of the Night has different possible endings. To achieve the best ending, one must explore at least 1847 rooms which is normally a huge, time-consuming task.
However, in this run, certain abilities are gained that allow Alucard to move at tremendous speed along glitched routes that players in 1997 could not have even dreamed of.
While traveling through all those rooms, the author, arukAdo, simultaneously acquires all of the relics, making this an "all relics and best ending" run.

Note: Due to an emulation error, the audio in the ending FMV sequence doesn't play.

Not only was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX, but also the very first PSX TAS to be published. Follow Dracula's son Alucard as he glitches through the castle on a quest to end his father's life.
By using an SRAM generated from this run and finding other tricks, arukAdo improved the previous movie by a massive 05:03.37. You can read the author's comments to learn more about the other improvements.

Resident Evil is the original survival horror game by Capcom, and the beginning of a big franchise.
The Raccoon Police Department's Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) are assigned to investigate a series of bizarre murders in Raccoon City. Watch the Alpha team's Jill Valentine as she blazes through a series of zombies while killing only one of them!

September 28th. Daylight... The monsters have overtaken the city. Somehow... I'm still alive...
This third entry in the Resident Evil series follows Jill Valentine as she tries to escape Raccoon City. In addition to the hordes of zombies, she must also avoid a bio-organic weapon called the Nemesis, created by the evil Umbrella Corporation to hunt down and kill the remaining S.T.A.R.S. team members for being witnesses of their unethical and illegal experiments in the first game.

Join Carlos in a race to clean up the streets of Raccoon City and enjoy the architecture and the new wall colors in a quick run of this well-known minigame from Resident Evil 3.
The objective of the minigame is to reach a specified point in a set time limit which can be extended by defeating enemies. Needless to say, the timer never even comes close to running out here.
This run begins from a save state which has the minigame unlocked, which can be generated by replaying the author's run of the full game. This is not normally allowed by the site, though an exception can be made if prior approval is granted.

This is our first Sega Saturn published movie, and once again Symphony of the Night has the honor to open a game section. arukAdo uses Maria, a Sega Saturn exclusive character, to blaze through the castle, proving that she's just not another damsel in distress. The author uses a combination of magic powers, kicks, glitches and luck manipulation to free the world, yet again, from Dracula's minions.
For more glitching and monster killing, we also have Alucard and Richter's movies, both done on the PlayStation version.

The title of the series upon which this game is based, and therefore the game itself, has been rendered a variety of different ways in English; this is perhaps indicative of just how bizarre an experience playing this game is.
Watch a magic-wielding mecha float through the air, attack enemies in a variety of ways and polish off this game in just under nine minutes.
This game was released for the SuperGrafx, a slight modification of the TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine meant to enhance the graphical capabilities of the console.

Hokuto no Ken is one of many video games based on the long-running manga Fist of the North Star (北斗の拳, Hokuto no Ken). This game follows Kenshiro across a world devastated by nuclear war as he journeys to rescue his girl, Julia, from his rival, Shin. To beat Shin's seemingly unstoppable army, Kenshiro uses the secret fighting technique hokutoshinken to twist his opponents' muscles until they literally explode.
The author, arukAdo, goes through this game very quickly by flying over most of the levels and beating up the bosses quickly. (This "warp" is allowed whenever you beat the previous stage's boss without losing any health. A similar warp gimmick occurs in the bonus stages of Mighty Bomb Jack.)

Super Castlevania IV is the first game in the Castlevania series for the SNES. In it, Simon Belmont, equipped with the ability to whip in 8 different directions, sets out to vanquish Dracula yet another time.
In this run, the authors, arukAdo, Bablo, Cardboard, and scrimpeh obsolete a seven year old movie by over a minute and a half by a different subweapon choice, new tricks and better optimization. For more details, as always, please see the authors' notes.
