Released in 1996, Metal Slug is a widely popular game about two soldiers named Marco Rossi and Tarma Roving, enrolled in the Peregrine Falcon Squad, fighting against General Morden and a bunch of other Nazi impersonators in giant mechs & machines in order to stop his New World Order under his power.
Watch mamuuuut and mtvf1 destroy anything that stands in their path through wide use of bombs and guns, and about a minute and a half faster than the previous run!

The classic Metal Slug series comes to DS with Metal Slug 7. Although there is only one player this time, this version is notable for allowing the player to keep two weapons and switch freely between them.
The author, mtvf1, completes this game without deaths in a mere 23 minutes and 11 seconds, using Marco.
There is also a version that uses Eri and Tarma. Deaths and continues are used in that version, which is also the only way to switch characters in this game.
You may also check out other Metal Slug runs such as Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5 and Metal Slug Advance.

This run uses death to switch between Eri and Tarma, and to obtain more grenades. You may also wish to see the run using "Marco" with no deaths.

The classic Metal Slug series comes to the DS with Metal Slug 7. Although there is only one player this time, this version is notable for allowing the player to keep two weapons and switch freely between them. Also, each player has a special advantage compared to the others: for instance, Eri can use more grenades, whereas Tarma does more damage while using a Metal Slug.
This run uses Eri and Tarma, just like mtvf1's first Eri/Tarma run. It improves zk547's deathless run by 01:08.10, despite having to use two continues to switch between Eri and Tarma.
Also check out the runs of other Metal Slug games such as Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5 and Metal Slug Advance.

Without warning, the forces of Blue Moon mount an assault on the nation of Orange Star. Only Orange Star's new advisor, in collaboration with Orange Star's commanding officers, can stop them and get to the truth behind this sinister plot.
At least, that's what they'd normally do if they weren't capable of just magically compelling their opponents to surrender at the sight of them.
Using a glitch in the design maps mode of the game, this run by Kiske and mtvf1 completes the game impossibly quickly by forcing opponents to yield, allowing instant wins in the campaign missions. The author also improves the previous run by 00:12.81 seconds through new tricks and better use of the "force surrender" glitch.

Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge is an offshoot of the Mega Man Battle Network series of Mega Man games. While not the most popular game in the series, it offers many opportunities for TASing, with lots of luck manipulation and route planning.
This run by mtvf1 plays through the game speedily and gets the best ending. See the author's comments for a detailed analysis of some of the strategies and routes used.

The Mega Man Battle Network series envisions Mega Man and his friends and enemies as computer programs rather than robots. It also changes gameplay from platformer to RPG, with battle mechanics similar to collectible card games.
The second game has Lan and Mega Man fighting a terrorist organization called Gospel, but this TAS divulges little of the plot. mtvf1 races through the game, avoiding unnecessary random battles and precisely manipulating battle chip winnings and order to quickly overcome all foes. We also have a run for the first game in the series.

Metal Slug Advance is an action shooter game from the popular series Metal Slug. In it, you are a recruit for Peregrine Falcon, training on an unnamed island with limited equipment. All seems to be going as planned, but when General Morden's troops invade the island, capture many of your allies, and attempt to build a base, you must rise to the task of fending off the approaching army.
There are some key differences between Metal Slug Advance and other games of the Metal Slug series. In this game, you have a health meter, so damage boosts can be used to save time. There are also collectable cards which provide bonuses or upgrade the power of certain attacks.
In this run, the author, mtvf1, utilizes Tyra Elson to finish the game in just less than twelve minutes, 00:33.25 seconds faster than the previous movie by x2poet.
See also the runs of Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, and Metal Slug 7. You can also see a 100% run of Advance that collects all the cards and completes all the stages.

This run aims for 100% completion, which completes all stages and collects all the cards. This requires replaying many stages to accomplish different goals. There is also one death in the movie, because one card is obtained by dying. See the submission comments for more details.
You can also see runs of Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, and Metal Slug 7. You can also watch an any% run which does not collect all the cards.

Besides the main YouTube encode featured here, there is an alternate one with a HUD that displays gameplay statistics such as enemy HP, number of cards obtained, and the protagonist's X and Y position.

Super Mario Advance is a remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 and Mario Bros. together on one cartridge. It features all the running, jumping, and veggie-flinging from the original Super Mario Bros. 2, plus new enemies and bigger items (and some annoying voice clips). In the updated arcade classic Mario Bros., you can play alone or against another player as you bump off baddies and collect coins.
There's another very important difference between this version of Super Mario Bros. 2 and the NES version: when loading a savefile in this game, the player can travel back to any stage before the last one visited. This makes several new routes available through the game which involve warping forward and then going back to a previous stage with a different warp.
This run by mtvf1 plays through the Super Mario Bros. 2 mode with Princess Peach. Of course, at the speed mtvf1 runs and jumps across Subcon, you'd never guess she's the slowest character. For more information, including details about the chosen route, see the author's comments. If you want to see another run that plays with more characters, see this run.

This run plays through the game as fast as possible, usually taking advantage of Toad's speed and Luigi's jumping. (In this version of the game, Toad does not get a speed boost from carrying enemies or items.) For a version that only uses Princess Peach, see this run.
Runs for the NES version and SNES version are available, as well.

Kamen no Ninja: Akakage, or "Masked Ninja: Akakage", is a Famicom-exclusive video game based on the 1987 anime series of the same name (which itself is a remake of the 1967 Akakage tokusatsu). While the game mainly features the Red Shadow, Akakage, you can also freely switch to Aokage (a young boy) and Shirokage (an old man).
This run by mtvf1 mostly uses Akakage for his superior arsenal of weapons, but switches to Aokage at a few points when the young ninja can move faster.

There is some commentary by the author in the emulator movie file and in the primary (HQ) encode.

Road Fighter is a racing game. Oddly enough, there are no explicit opponents, even if initially it may seem so.
In this run, mtvf1 destroys as many other vehicles as possible, racking up quite an amount of destruction.

The concept for this run originated long ago because Princess was the only character not used in the normal run aiming for fastest overall time. (In fact, Princess is the only character not used in the fastest warpless run either.)
This movie improves the previous publication by 00:02.95 seconds, manly due to heavier optimization.

You can watch the complete run being played back on a console.

This is a remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 present in Super Mario All-Stars. Aside from musical and graphical improvements, it also provides a save feature.
Thanks to a variety of improvements including a different choice in character on stage 7-1, author mtvf1 finishes the game 00:04.39 seconds faster than the previous run.
Runs of the NES counterpart and GBA version are also available.
