This run employs various ways to win encounters in a single round by gaining more points than the enemy. As speed is the goal, the opponent is usually taken down before getting the chance to score points. Since all characters are identical in terms of speed, Saeki is used as he is the default character.

Take a collection of fist-fighters, wrestlers and martial arts experts, and combine them into one tournament. But instead of simply depleting the health bar, you must win points depending on how you defeat an opponent; for example, ring-outs are 1 point, special moves 4 points and counters for special moves 2 points.

Super Smash Bros. began a series of games that mixes characters from several Nintendo-made games into a unique fighting game. It relies not on wearing down the opponent's "life" but increasing damage until he or she can be literally knocked off the stage. Wildly popular, this game has inspired many lazy days of casual multiplayer gaming but also intense competitive tournaments that happen to this day.
This is the first speed-oriented TAS of this game to be published here. DennisBalow shows off super fast gameplay with Kirby on the hardest difficulty. The Japanese version was used for even faster attacking and movement speed.

In order to make the game a bit easier, its creators embedded some secret warp zones to skip a few early levels in their entirety. But that simply wasn't good enough for MESHUGGAH, feos & Koh1fds; they decided to travel directly to level 3, where they invent their own warp and skip right to the grand finale. They took a glitch found in this TAS and exploited it even further, to the point where the Dark Queen just gives up and returns Angelica and Pimple, going off to hatch an even more evil plan for next time. The glitch is done by breaking the game execution and sending it right to the game ending.

Double Dragon II: The Revenge is a beat'em-up game starring Billy (or Bimmy, depending on the game version) and Jimmy Lee in a quest to get revenge on a gang for killing Billy's girlfriend. Their journey starts on city streets, but it eventually goes to a variety of places like a helicopter, a dark forest, a haunted mansion, and a final fight bordering on the supernatural. You must play the hardest difficulty, Supreme Master, in order to reach the true final boss.
One interesting feature of the game is that some very powerful moves can only be used from a crouching position, usually after landing from a jump or getting up from a knockdown. This is why you see the player jump so frequently.
This run by Xipo plays the game with only 1 player. It is slower than the two-player run largely because it can't use tricks like the two players hitting each other with flying knees. However, there are still some interesting tricks and strategies in this movie well worth watching.

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! is the first Godzilla video game for the NES. In this game, you play as both Godzilla and Mothra as they travel across planets to beat various other monsters such as Hedorah, Gigan, and King Ghidorah. On each planet are many alien armies that are there to stop you from reaching the monster that controls each planet. To portray this, each planet is shown as a virtual gameboard with Godzilla and Mothra on one end and the enemy monster on the other. Each space is either empty, has an alien army, or has an enemy monster. You level up by destroying anything that gets in your way, and you progress to the next planet by defeating an enemy monster in one-on-one combat.
In this run, SpaceColonizer opts to play the "Destr0y All M0nsters" mode using a special password. Here, all the enemy monsters in the game are on one board and are set to their endgame levels while Godzilla and Mothra are at level 8. The mode is considered complete when all the enemy monsters on the board are defeated. You can read the author's notes for more details.

In River City Ransom, Alex and Ryan face off against gangs of students and evil bosses to win their town back and rescue their girlfriends. Several bosses need to be found and beaten before you can enter River City High and beat up the final bad guys (including an obvious imitation of the Double Dragon heroes). The gameplay also has elements of an RPG, where you can level up your character with shop purchases, but none of that is done here.
A glitch that is abused often in this run, pressing Left and Right at the same time, causes the player character to do all sorts of crazy things and usually lose all of his power. This is done to reduce lag during running segments and abuse collision detection.
This run obsoletes the previous one by nearly a minute due to much more optimization of boss fights and some new tricks. Weapons are also used more, so expect to see some chains and trash cans!

Donatello has learned the secret ninja art of teleportation and... no, actually, a glitch that enables the player to move around extremely fast is used to hit all the enemies as soon as they come on screen. TMNT2 is a classic beat-em-up game, featuring 4 reptiles. This may be that rare case when the Turtles can really prove they are ninjas. Because being a ninja is not about walking and fighting...
After Splinter taught his students how to teleport short distances, it was all over for the Foot Clan. Michael Jackson also taught them how to moonwalk, because this was the 80's and Michael Jackson was cool then. It never spoiled things that with 2 players the game spawns around 8/5 more enemies than with one player. The increased HP didn't help the bosses to stand that sudden turtle attack either.

Rockman Battle & Fighters is a Neo Geo Pocket Color port/compilation of the two Mega Man arcade games, Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man: The Power Fighters. In the 22nd century, the scientists, learning the ancient ways of magic, discovered a new technique that made it possible to create artificial beings by mixing the DNA of humans and animals. Those new creatures, known as Gears, had no will of their own and were destined to obey humans forever. However, a Gear named Justice was somehow capable of disobeying the humans and making his own decisions. He organized a rebellion of Gears, that was later repressed by the knights of the Sacred Order. He was thrown into prison, but recently has broken free, and the Order organized a tournament to find out who is capable of hunting him down again. Among the contenders is Sol Badguy, a man with an unclear past, and his rival Ky Kiske, one of the most skilled knights of the order. The conditions of the tournament are, however, very strange. Spilling blood is allowed, and the first prize is the fulfillment of any wish the winner has.
Guilty Gear is a 2D fighting game in which you can play as one of ten very different characters from among Holy Order knights, Armed Air Force soldiers, Mafia members and mad scientists. Each character has his or her own storyline that will be fully revealed during the final showdown. In the 16th century, a sword surfaces that is so powerful, so evil that warriors from all over the globe seek it out. It is Soul Edge, a demon blade. From America to Europe to Japan, these warriors fight each other for the chance to obtain it. Soul Blade is a 3D weapons fighting game that chronicles their story.
A complete 3D fighting game that allows for side steps, Soul Blade has twelve colorful fighters (ten standard, two hidden, plus additional costumes for a few fighters), each with various weapons and styles. The first ten can be used in all the combat modes, while the hidden two can only be used in versus and arcade mode.
Namco enhanced the arcade version (called Soul Edge) by adding a well done CGI intro, plus a story mode to the addition of the traditional team, survival, and time attack modes. The story mode goes into greater detail about each character, and is presented in an ancient book format. The story mode also allows you to unlock more of each characters' extra weapons. These weapons, which vary in lengths, stats, and durability, add to the options available players in the versus mode.
Soul Blade's sequel is SoulCalibur, both in the arcades and for the Sega Dreamcast.

The powerful fighter Heihachi Mishima throws his five-year-old son Kazuya off a cliff, saying that the child will survive the fall if he is truly his son. Twenty-one years later, Heihachi, now the head of a corrupt corporation, organizes a fighting championship his son is eager to join.
Tekken is a versus fighting game developed by Namco, first released in the arcades in 1994, then ported to the PlayStation in 1995. Besides Kazuya, other fighters of the tournament all have their own range of moves, something to prove, and a reason for any combat opponent to fear them. Tekken Force, a paramilitary organization protecting the Mishima karate fighters, is nearly obliterated by the mighty Ogre. Heihachi Mishima's only hope is his grandson Jin Kazama, who lives with his mother Jun, unaware of his legacy. When the Ogre attacks his home and presumably kills his mother, Jin seeks out his grandfather and learns the martial arts of the family. On his nineteenth birthday, Heihachi announces the King of the Iron Fist Tournament 3, hoping that Jin will use the opportunity take out the meddlesome Ogre.
Tekken 3, like its predecessors, is a versus fighting game. New features include prominently featured side-stepping, allowing characters to retreat into the background and back during fights, more combo throws, fifteen more characters, and reduced jumping capabilities to allow for more realistic combat. Also included are two minigames: Tekken Force, a beat-em-up stage that unlocks a new character, and Tekken Ball, a beach volleyball variant where characters are hurt by the ball.
This run features Mokujin, who first appears in this game and later appears in all but Tekken 4, where he is temporarily replaced by another character named Combot. Unlike Mokujin, Combot can only mimic a different character's moveset for every match instead of every round. Mokujin is meant truly to test how well you know who you are, how well you can play as said character, whether you can play the matchups you are given, and whether you can keep the opponent from guessing which character you are.

Super Punch-Out!! is a boxing video game for the Super Nintendo. It is the 4th game in the Punch-Out series. The player controls a boxer with a 3rd person perspective, the player can punch opponents to the head or to the body, and block or dodge opponents. The more punches the player does to an opponent, the more the power meter goes up, which when full can perform powerful punches.

Here you can see a revision of this game by nitsuja, 04:35.32 minutes faster than the previous run by mazzeneko. The strategy used was changed radically, using Raphael instead of Donatello and using dash moves more often.
The damage for every move was mapped out carefully by monitoring the internal values of the RAM, to be able to choose the best attack for every situation. Luck was manipulated to make some enemies appear in more convenient positions.

The Combatribes is a side-scrolling fighter without much side-scrolling, but all the more fighting. Mostly jumping on poor defenseless bad guys and repeatedly polishing the sidewalk with their faces.
Alyosha and Dooty here obsolete the longest non-obsoleted movie (at the time of publication) by over two and a half minutes. Many optimizations were achieved with improved modern tools and careful testing of enemy movement patterns. For more information, see the authors' comments.
The movie this one beats is somewhat legendary due to the fact that it was a result of power abuse: it was submitted, accepted and published by the same person within a couple of minutes. That run took 12 years to get beaten due to the nature of the game and common absence of interest; probably if it was judged properly in the first place, it would've had no chance to get published at all.
