Arumana no Kiseki is an FDS-only platformer with an interesting grappling hook mechanic. Perhaps not surprisingly for a rather complicated mechanic like this one, it can be abused heavily to clip through walls and most of several levels.
This run is an update of the predecessor movie that aiqiyou improved by 00:21.03 seconds through heavier optimization and better planning.

Ninja Gaiden for Game Gear is quite unlike the NES version or even its cousin on the Master System. It has a similar (but simpler) feel as the Master System version, but has the wall climbing element of the NES game. But like the others, it has ninjas. And ninjas are cool.
The key to a TAS of this game is special weapon maintenance. Bosses receive double the damage when hit with special weapons, so managing the weapons used and conserving force are critical to optimizing this game.
This movie improves the previous run by 861 frames.

Alter Ego is an NES homebrew port of a ZX Spectrum puzzle game of the same name. You control a character who can switch places with his shadow a limited number of times in each stage. The goal is to collect all the items without touching any enemies. To further complicate matters, the blue-outlined items can only be collected by the shadow, whereas the pink-outlined items can only be collected by the main player.
This hardly stops aiqiyou, though, who barely avoids death in a number of puzzles and finishes in record time, while also improving the previous movie by 00:05.44 seconds.

Alwa's Awakening: The 8-Bit Edition is an official NES demake of the PC game Alwa's Awakening that was co-developed by the developers of the original game. While Alwa's Awakening was a throwback to the 8-bit era of video games with its retro-esque gameplay and graphics, the NES version is a full-on port to an 8-bit video game console. And unlike most demakes, this version retains most of the levels of the PC version along with adding exclusive content.
aiqiyou and J.Y save about 12 seconds over the previous run though better overall optimization and better routing in the glitched areas. We also have a run that forgoes the uses of the out-of-bounds glitches in favor of mostly playing the game as it was intended.

Darkwing Duck (1992) is a platformer somewhat similar to Mega Man in gameplay and difficulty. The arrow gun allows the player to climb up walls and use creative shortcuts so that the absolute shortest route can be taken. In case you are wondering why the character keeps on jumping so much, it is because he has to wait a short amount of time before being able to walk. With constant jumping these stops can be avoided.
This run by DreamYao, J.Y, and aiqiyou saves 16.39 seconds over the previous run thanks to improved jumping and arrow techniques. For more details, you can read the authors' comments.
