Mr. Driller 2 is a fast-paced puzzle game where you have to drill to the bottom of the level within a fixed time limit.
In this run, the author drills through the ten time attack courses in slightly over seven and a half minutes. Furthermore, he aims primarily for in-game time, as it adds to the entertainment value and adds also to the strategy, as there are time bonuses in this mode which subtract time.

This is a TAS of the game Deja Vu 2, the sequel to the popular Deja Vu for NES. This time, however, you do remember who you are, and you also remember that you owe some mobster a lot of money.
The goal in the game, however, is not to get the money - instead you're supposed to frame the mobsters. You do this by planting certain items in desks and stuff like that.
Overall, this movie is a lot like the other storybook TAS: super-fast menu navigation, a lot of route planning, and the general feeling of "What in the world is going on in this movie?"

The Casebooks of Ace Harding includes Game Boy ports of Déjà Vu: A Nightmare Comes True!! (previously released on Game Boy) and Déjà Vu II: Lost in Las Vegas. Déjà Vu is a port of a 1987 game that had been made for various systems. It's a classic detective story, with you waking up to a dead body with total amnesia - you don't know who you are, or how you got there, and you don't know who the corpse is, either. In Déjà Vu II, however, you *do* remember who you are, and you also remember that you owe some mobster a lot of money.
Randil and Spikestuff complete both cases in record time, which also features a minor improvement in Case 2, thanks to better optimisation.

This GBC game is based off the popular television series Mission: Impossible.
Following the spirit of that series, this is a stealth-based game. Supposedly tricky tasks are to be performed covertly. But in this movie, stealth is clearly not one of the author's highest priorities. It's all running through guards, as if they weren't there. Yet the player does not die.

In the run Randil blitzes through everything, not taking the time to kill or even hit any of the regular enemies. The spell being cast most of the time is Protection From Evil. This creates short term invulnerability and allows for jumping through enemies.

Super Spy Hunter (1992) was originally released in Japan under the name Battle Formula (バトルフォーミュラ). The game has "become" a sequel to Spy Hunter, the arcade classic from 1983, already after its initial release — when the developer purchased the license from Midway.
Since the main character drives a wheeled vehicle, this game shows to be the rare kind of a variable scrolling speed shooter, where you can slow the car down if you can't keep up with the action (which obviously never happens in a TAS). The core gameplay holds true to its spiritual predecessor, but this time it's spiced up with stage bosses and various sorts of powerups.
This movie is a 1 minute 14 second improvement over the previous one thanks to increased precision, lag reduction, and better boss fighting.

Clash at Demonhead is a complex game to say the least. There are over 40 levels in the game, and they are all connected to each other. In the network of levels, the player must control Billy "Big Bang" Blitz to find 6 medallions and then rescue the kidnapped professor. This is no simple task. To make things even harder for a (tool-assisted) speedrunner, there are items available that greatly increase the player's speed, but in return cost money. This means that the route and strategy must be carefully planned.
This movie certainly does not lack speed or complexity, and is especially entertaining if you have played the game and know how hard it is. In this run, Randil improves the previous movie by over 4 minutes primarily thanks to a new trick that allows you to use the Power Boots for twice as long. As a result, he doesn't need to shop as much, allowing him to forgo the detour to Route 22 in order to exchange his gold for money.

Darkwing Duck (1992) is a platformer somewhat similar to Mega Man in gameplay and difficulty. The arrow gun allows the player to climb up walls and use creative shortcuts so that the absolute shortest route can be taken. In case you are wondering why the character keeps on jumping so much, it is because he has to wait a short amount of time before being able to walk. With constant jumping these stops can be avoided.

Note: The name of this game is Rush’n Attack. The 'n does not stand alone as a contraction of and, unlike Ghosts ’n Goblins. Given the theme of the game, the pun on “Russian Attack” is quite obvious.

This game is a little similar to Bubble Bobble. Two players defeat hordes of enemies in fifty stages, only progressing when all enemies are gone. Enemies can either be turned into snowballs or can be killed by rolling a snowball on them. Unlike Bubble Bobble, though, there are boss fights every ten stages.
This is a 2 minute 48 second improvement over the previous movie. Like the previous movie it uses 2 players and does not take warps.
This movie is slower than the one-player version primarily because the slot machine bonus game after bosses takes longer with two players.

For the first time we have an NTSC version here. All previous versions were PAL.
This movie may look like it's dramatically faster than the previous version, but actually, it is more complicated than that.
  • The previous movie was 21035 frames long. In the PAL version, the intro takes 967 frames, thus the movie was 20098 frames from beginning to completion.
  • This movie is 20847 frames long. In the NTSC version, the intro takes 1333 frames, thus the movie was 19514 frames from beginning to completion.
The difference between the movies is therefore 584 frames. In NTSC timing, that translates to 9.73 seconds, and in PAL timing, 11.68 seconds.
In any case, it is a great improvement considering how many versions there have already been of this TAS.

Solstice: The Quest for the Staff of Demnos (1990) follows a wizard called Shadax on his quest to retrieve the eponymous staff in order to save a princess from being unjustly incarcerated. The game is essentially a huge isometric labyrinth filled with devious traps and oddball creatures to ensure especially frustrating peril in the absence of any kind of map to help the player. (Well, at least it was like that before the Internet era, but make no mistake: the game isn't by any means easy nowadays, either.) One of the most memorable aspects of the game is its jazzy musical theme filled with deep bass notes uncommon for the NES.

The few players who have seen this game know that it's an evanescent one. An average speedrun might achieve a time such as 6 minutes. A 5 minute record is an excellent time for speedruns of this game, but requires a lot of luck.

Tiny Toons is an easy and simple game to play, but it has a nasty bug lurking within it. If you press Left and Right simultaneously (you can do this, if you break your controller's directional pivot), you can get some impressive momentum moving to the right. This is abused heavily in this video.
Previously the left+right glich movie was a separate category, but this version obsoletes both that and the normal movie. The previous left+right movie was 11:52, so this one is 23 seconds faster.

Goof Troop (1993) is a cheerful puzzle game based on Disney show of the same name. The gameplay is somewhat similar to NES Legend of Zelda with its maze-like map filled with one-screen rooms, except this time the emphasis on puzzles is stronger, and you can play in co-op.
In this movie the authors control two characters (Goofy and Max) simultaneously. This allows for a good deal of team work as one character can go get an item while the other heads for the exit. When there is no multi-tasking to do, the authors do a good job performing antics with one or both of the characters.
This is a nearly 4 minute improvement over Frenom's previous movie. Improvements come from new tricks, better teamwork, luck manipulation and optimized movements.

Based loosely on the plot line of the movie by the same name.
This game is about a man named Stanley Ippkiss, who finds a powerful mask known as The Mask. However evil has also become aware of this and kidnaps his girlfriend in order to obtain it.
One of the traits The Mask seems to give Stanley is extreme speed, so naturally, aside from a couple boss fights, the game play is extremely fast throughout the movie.
This is a 3 minute 30 second improvement over the previous movie by the use of a new shortcut in level 1, improved boss fights, and many other optimizations. The author left detailed comments about them.
