Space Invaders needs no introduction. Space Invaders Extreme 2 is part of a recent revival of the series, introducing power-ups and a variety of new gameplay modes.
This run plays Score Attack mode on the hardest available path. Note that it doesn't aim for highest score because doing so would make the movie considerably longer.

Tower of Hanoi is a puzzle game that dates back to 1883 at the very least when French mathematician Édouard Lucas brought the game to the West. With three rods and a tower of discs on a rod at one end, the goal of the game is to get all of the discs to the rod at the other end while following these rules: 1.) Only one disk may be moved at a time, which then has to be placed on top of another stack or on an empty rod, 2.) No disk may be placed on top of a disk that is smaller than it.
For this run, FractalFusion plays a homebrew port of Tower of Hanoi for the Game Boy and completes all the puzzles it has to offer in record time. In this version of the game, the tower can be moved in its entirety to either section in the foreground.
You can get the game here.

An action platform game based on the Precure (Pretty Cure) anime, starring three girls who kick and punch their way to victory.
This TAS abuses the physics of this game to speed through the levels quickly. For more information, see the author's comments.

Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald form the third generation of Pokémon, after Pokémon: Gold and Silver. Noticeable differences include the graphics and interface, Pokémon abilities, and running shoes that allow the player to move around much faster in the outside overworld before getting the bike.
FractalFusion and GoddessMaria complete the game in a mere 1:31:45, 3 minutes and 22 seconds faster than the previous Sapphire Version run. Instead of using Machop/Machoke, this run now uses Taillow/Swellow, which is obtained far earlier in the game, also has Guts as an ability, and has powerful moves early on and throughout. The movie also uses advanced methods of luck manipulation with the help of RNG analysis. For more details, see the submission text.

Note: To play the vbm, you need to have Real Time Clock on and use Flash 128k as Save Type. Real Time Clock is for sync, while Flash 128k is to prevent the game from giving a white screen.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a well known stealth action game where agent Sam Fisher tries to rescue CIA agents from the bad guys.
However, in this run the author doesn't care about stealth at all and runs through the levels as fast as possible.
FractalFusion has also created a TAS for the game's GBA sequel.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow is the second game in the Splinter Cell series. Unlike its predecessor, you have to pay some heed to the stealth system. This leads to more creative solutions to many levels. The author's comments contain many details about the gameplay and routes chosen.

Mega Man Xtreme is a port of the popular Mega Man X series to the Game Boy Color. It adapts the Mavericks and their stages from that series and wraps it into gameplay more suited for the portable console.
Here, FractalFusion & Alyosha speed through the game and exploit glitches to create a movie worthy of what we have come to expect from Mega Man at TASVideos.
This movie is about 7 seconds faster than the previous record by FractalFusion. It appears longer due to significantly more accurate emulation of the loading times in this run.
This movie is played from a save that has unlocked "Extreme mode", which allows you to play all of the levels in one game. Runs that start from a savestate are not normally allowed; see the Movie Rules for more on this.

Battle Chess is a chess game for the NES with a few neat gimmicks. In addition to standard 2D depictions of chess pieces you get to play with, you also have "3D" pieces that walk and interact with other pieces like they're real people. You also have animations for when pieces overtake and destroy other pieces. There are also features to aid in gameplay such as letting the game suggest moves to you if you're stuck and being able to take back moves and play again.

Indivisible is an NES homebrew demake of the RPG/Metroidvania hybrid PC game of the same name. As this game is more of a proof-of-concept than a full-on demake, it lacks the RPG mechanics of the original. Nevertheless, the essential parts of the story are still intact, and the game comes with very well-flowing graphics even for a homebrew NES game.
FractalFusion opts to complete the game to "Clearest!" as fast as possible. "Clearest!" is basically completing it at 100%, which requires defeating the secret boss,

King Graham sets off on a journey to save his family from the evil wizard Mordack. Unfortunately for him, the number of beings in the world that desire to kill him are vast, and only the most silly usage of items can save him from impending doom. He also has a sidekick, Cedric the Owl, who is next to useless.
A port of the PC game from the well-known King's Quest series, King's Quest V is an adventure game infamous for its numerous dead ends, long fetch quests, and overly obscure solutions. The game is highly restrictive, with minimum points necessary to beat the game being not much less than the maximum 260 points, and as such, this TAS goes for the maximum.
FractalFusion improves the predecessor movie by 02:27.94 minutes. Improvement comes from various glitches (witch genie bottle skip, and Dink tambourine anywhere), vastly improved menuing, and careful use of "storing cursor movement" for efficiency. Other improvements involve lag reduction, and RNG manipulation in the final dungeon.

While the CPUs were distracted, FractalFusion changed the dice on them and then left the board for a few minutes. When he came back, all the CPUs were crying. The fraud squad is still investigating.
This movie aims to defeat 4 CPU controlled players, ceasing to press buttons on the controller after as little time as possible. Luck is manipulated for the first 1:08, and then the CPUs are left to lose by themselves without requiring any further actions by the player.

Rocman X is an original game created by the Taiwanese company Sachen, the most prolific unlicensed developer for the NES/Famicom. Despite the name and pirated title screen, this game has almost nothing to do with Mega Man.
The game takes place in Thunder Blaster Man's home of Gadem City. The mayor is in the middle of throwing a big party for the city's centennial when a mysterious figure crashes the party and kidnaps the mayor's daughter, Miss Lucy. The kidnapper turns out to be the leader of an evil crime syndicate who demands a large ransom for her safe return. Now it's up to the eponymous hero to save Miss Lucy and bring the syndicate to justice!
In this run, FractalFusion jumps and flies through all four levels of this odd platformer and saves Miss Lucy in just under thirteen and a half minutes.

Note: The provided movie file will only sync on certain versions of FCEUX (2.1.5-2.2.1). It will not sync on any other version.

The Chessmaster is a long-running series of chess video games made for various consoles and computers. The NES version of the game comes with various ways to tweak the CPU opponent, such as allowing it to think while you make your move and whether or not it has access to a predefined set of moves to make early on.
FractalFusion plays against a CPU opponent set at "Newcomer 1", the easiest difficulty setting, and utilizes the Bongcloud variant of the Wayward Queen Attack to checkmate it in record time.

The Wit.nes is an NES demake of the 2016 puzzle game "The Witness". The game features a various collection of grid puzzles, with each one unlocking a new puzzle or a new area on the map. Some puzzles will have different symbols that signify different ways a puzzle has to be solved, such as separating colored dots or drawing different shapes with each line.
Despite being fully playable and having the support of Jonathan Blow (the creator of the original game), The Wit.nes was only released as a demo and never saw further updates.
FractalFusion improves on the predecessor movie by 00:00.72 seconds via new routing and largely thanks to a new solution proposed by I have no name to one of the puzzles. In addition to a faster completion time, this run has a side-goal of making as many 90-degree turns as possible, which ended up being 315 (see the submission notes for more details).

Azure Dreams is an RPG random dungeon crawler where the main character, Koh, can recruit familiars and level them up in the 40-floor Monster Tower, while gaining items and riches. He can also help the local town and romance some girls.
As can be seen from the movie time, none of this occurs in this TAS. It's just one naked dash to the top and a whole bunch of fortuitous circumstances. Luck manipulation was used on almost every floor to ensure that elevators and helpful traps are strategically located.
Should you decide to play Azure Dreams, this is definitely the wrong way to play the game.

The eighth entry in the Mega Man series is very similar to the preceding games, especially its direct predecessor (in light of being the second entry in the franchise released for the PSX, the first being a port of X3). Once again, Mega Man takes on eight Robot Masters and goes on to raid Wily's fortress.
If you're here for the plot, though, you're missing the point – instead enjoy the impossibly fast action and nifty glitch abuse in this run.

Note: The credits are missing due to an emulator glitch. For those who are interested in seeing the credits, they can be watched here.

Capcom decided to make some easy money, so they recycled parts of Mega Man X5, threw in overly difficult trial-and-error gameplay, made almost everything an obstacle course, and called it Mega Man X6.
This run by Rolanmen1 and FractalFusion plays on the hardest difficulty, Xtreme, and uses both X and Zero. The physics of Zero's sword make it the ideal boss killer, however some bosses have unavoidable invincibility periods, so X is sometimes used to attack during these periods. Some new tricks like duck dashing and saber climbing help save 19 seconds over the previous movie.
If you want to see a run that plays through all of the stages, see this run.

Cyborg 009 is based on the manga and anime of the same name, which began a long time ago. There are eight characters that you can use, but one of them is set and you can only choose two others for each mission.
The run uses 008 (Pyunma) and 005 (Geronimo) most of the time. 008 can jump forward quickly and swim in water, while 005 does heavy damage to bosses. Various power-ups are collected to level-up 009 (Joe) due to an event near the end of the game.
The run uses the easiest difficulty due to the final boss taking less time to beat.
If you play this game, it is recommended to level-up 009 first, and a lot.

Gekisou Sentai Car Ranger is a Power Rangers game released only in Japan. It uses the SuFami Turbo loader add-on for the SNES, making it even more obscure.
The game itself is rather short for a platformer. Only the yellow and red rangers are used due to their unique character advantages which allow them to complete the game faster than the other rangers. Not only does this run get the worst ending, the game even explicitly says so after a scene where the Earth explodes.

The game itself is rather short for a platformer. Only the yellow and red rangers are used due to their unique character advantages which allow them to complete the game faster than the other rangers. Unlike its predecessor, this run gets good ending by getting the minimum 250 parts necessary to form Racing Fusion RV Robo and defeat a transformed President Gynamo before he blows up the Earth. This results in the movie length being increased by 00:46.27 seconds. See the author's notes for more details.

Since moving to the SNES 16-bit land, Mega Man has taken the secret identity X, but everyone knows it's still him because he's the only blue robot who shoots three pellets at a time at other robots, steals their weapons, and zips through walls.
FractalFusion plays this game a bit differently than usual. He abuses a failed password in order to obtain all weapons before the intro stage; this also causes all 8 Mavericks to be flagged as beaten, so the run proceeds directly to the Sigma stages after the intro stage.
Because the failed password does not include X's armor upgrades and the Maverick stages are never entered, the dash boots (normally impossible to avoid) are never collected, meaning that Mega Man X spends the entire run walking through the stages; this provides more opportunities for entertainment than usual. For more information, read the author's comments.

Mega Man X2 makes a particularly interesting run as there are many weapons that can be used to increase mobility. These include a grappling hook, a fast mid-air dash, and a weapon that can transform enemies into platforms.
This TAS obsoletes the "low%, best ending" as well as the "all upgrades" runs, since it collects all the parts of both X and Zero. It became possible to separate the "full completion" branch from the "any%" one after it was found to be faster to forgo acquiring the Shoryuken in the latter.

Pokonyan! was a 1993 manga aimed at young children that was later adapted into an anime and a video game. You control Pokonyan, a tanuki, on a mission to retrieve his owner's candy from some kitsune.
