VISUALSHOCK! SPEEDSHOCK! SOUNDSHOCK!
NOW IS TIME TO THE 68000 HEART ON FIRE!
Alien Soldier, released in 1995, is a spiritual successor to Gunstar Heroes (you can tell by the cameo appearances of certain bosses), and a real treat in terms of production values as described in the tagline quoted above. The game's rather nonsensical plot boils down to the protagonist, Epsilon-Eagle, having to fight his former terrorist comrades (as well as everything on his path). Thankfully, speedrunners don't care about plots either way.
What is more important is that Alien Soldier epitomizes Treasure's concept of an action game: a fast-paced, flashy, relentless boss rush. As such, it has 33 grotesque bosses, each of them promising a guaranteed game over for inexperienced players. However, using Epsilon-Eagle's vast arsenal of weapons and dodging abilities, the authors plow through the game's "SUPERHARD" difficulty without any regard to its name in this long-awaited movie, achieving a total in-game time of 8 minutes 13 seconds.

ESWAT is a story about a cop who dreams of wearing a cybernetic jetpack suit and becoming a killing machine. His dream comes true.

E-SWAT: City Under Siege is a story about a cop who dreams of wearing a cybernetic jetpack suit and becoming a killing machine. His dream comes true.
More seriously, this game stars the police officer Duke Oda trying to clean up the crime in the city of Liberty and fight the crime organization E.V.E. Some more details about the game can be found here. The variety of available weapons, and the use of a jetpack (denoted Burner), make this an entertaining action-packed movie.
This run features a 9-second improvement over the preceding version.

Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World is an RPG with some amazingly grand scope. Levels up to 255, hp to 65535, +63 weapons, battles with 255 opponents, time travel, and characters dying of old age.
This run takes care of money problems by finding a nameless, glitched party member and taking all his stuff. Teleportation is used in some places it normally can't be by resting to reset the forbidden flag. Walking backwards is employed when it reduces screen draw time. Temple blessings are used rather than a cleric, and items are used instead of a sorcerer.

Shinobi 3 is a high class platformer with amazing graphics and sound. You control the ninja Musashi, who in this update has many new moves and abilities. He begins the game armed with 0 shurikens, but apparently someone felt the need to leave some conveniently in his way to use.
The author shows an extremely entertaining route featuring abuse of the Jump kick move, using wallkicks to fly up sheer cliffs, and even sacrificing lives to smash bosses.
During autoscroll sections Dammit is sure to entertain you by insulting the inept hordes of enemies, insulting the Genesis hardware itself in one special palette error case, and pulling some disappearing acts crazy enough to be worthy of a Ninja. He also made 2 minutes and 45 seconds of the previous run disappear in a cloud of smoke.

Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master is a high class platformer with amazing graphics and sound. You control the ninja Musashi, who in this update has many new moves and abilities. He begins the game armed with 0 shurikens, but apparently someone felt the need to leave some conveniently in his way to use.
This run is a 36.83 second improvement to the predecessor movie and it features lots of entertaining tricks and time-saving glitches. See the authors' notes for a detailed overview.

In Revenge of Shinobi, the prequel to Shinobi III, you play as a ninja (what else?) who is capable of destroying an entire army of other ninjas, soldiers, and Hollywood characters. The fast attack animation of the ninja (one of which throws fireballs everywhere) makes up for his lack of speed.
This is the author's first submission for this game, beating out two others who also had submissions.

Might and Magic, released in 1986, was the first installment in the series that would later evolve into a whole fictional universe, encompassing both the actual M&M games and a multitude of subseries and spin-offs made in their own genres, including King's Bounty, Heroes of Might & Magic, and others.
Normally, this game is rather long. This movie by Dammit skips most of it by using a glitch that allows the player to get all the important items in a matter of a few minutes.

We strongly recommend reading the author's comments for further details and explanations. The YouTube and primary downloadable encodes have the author's commentary as subtitles.

In a not-so-canonical sequel to Metal Gear, Solid Snake returns with newfound abilities to stop his own bullets, take minor damage to avoid major damage, and use cans of tuna to replenish his breath while underwater.
For those interested, the author has provided a Lua script that allows you to view the HP of enemies, bomb timers, hostages rescued, and body count when using FCEUX to play the movie.

Bushido Blade is a series of fighting games with a gimmick: everyone can die in one hit. This kind of gameplay lends itself well to time attacking and TASing.
Slash Mode is an unlockable feature where the challenge is to kill 100 opponents as fast as possible. This game adds on to the original Bushido Blade's Slash Mode with an on-screen timer and more variety in enemies and environments.
In this run, Dammit runs through Slash Mode as fast as possible, finishing with an ingame time of 3'34"76.

Monsters have blown up and escaped from a top secret Psychic Research facility and stolen one of the lovely lab assistants as well. Dr. Knavik gives Lucia his precious ESP Booster to save her twin sister Cecile.
By collecting various items on her travels, the ESP Booster grants Lucia various powers (kind of like Mega Man...) to destroy her enemies and also navigate quickly through levels. This is exacerbated for the author by poor hit detection and finicky input control. Input is only allowed one time every four frames. Nevertheless the end result is a fast paced and varied movie.

This run improves the previous movie by better strategies and lag optimization, but its overall time is longer due to using a BIOS and better emulation causing yet more lag.
