E.T. The Extraterrestial, based on the film of the same name, is one of the worst video games ever released. It contributed to Atari's massive financial losses during 1983 and 1984. As a result of overproduction and returns, millions of unsold cartridges were buried in an Alamogordo, New Mexico landfill.
The game was developed in five weeks and Atari decided to skip audience testing for the product due to time limitations.
For our first Atari 2600 movie, partners in crime adelikat and Cardboard assemble the interplanetary telephone and call E.T.'s home planet in a record-breaking 00:25.25 seconds. For details on how they did it, read the authors' commentary.

Ninja Golf is an Atari 7800 video game which combines scrolling beat 'em up with golf simulation gameplay. Released in 1990, it later gained some renown for its outlandish subject matter and unique blend of gameplay styles.
The player starts each hole by aiming his ball and shooting it toward the green. He then runs toward the ball, in traditional sidescroller fashion, fighting various enemies encountered along the way. These enemies include other ninjas, gophers, birds, giant mutant frogs, sharks and more.
The enemies faced depends on the environment the ninja golfer is currently in. Sharks are encountered in water hazards and snakes in the sand traps. Ninjas are encountered in all the environments, including underwater.
In this run, adelikat sports, fights, and runs his way through multiple ninjas, sharks, and even dragons to complete possibly the strangest nine holes of golf.

Jumpman Junior is a game developed by Randy Glover, who described it as a "lite" version of Jumpman containing 12 levels for users without disk drives. In it, you need to defuse all of the bombs placed on Jupiter by terrorists. To do this, you must climb up ladders, touch the vines, and, of course, jump.
adelikat, in the site's first ColecoVision run ever, completes this game in 04:48.58 by jumping through walls, abusing deaths, and moving very fast.
Note: The character should not be confused with Mario, who was originally named Jumpman. Interestingly enough, Glover cited Donkey Kong as inspiration for this game. It is not known whether the naming is a coincidence or not.

Battle Chess is a chess game for the NES with a few neat gimmicks. In addition to standard 2D depictions of chess pieces you get to play with, you also have "3D" pieces that walk and interact with other pieces like they're real people. You also have animations for when pieces overtake and destroy other pieces. There are also features to aid in gameplay such as letting the game suggest moves to you if you're stuck and being able to take back moves and play again.
adelikat decides to play the game using 3D pieces on the hardest difficulty. Moves have to be considered not just to minimize CPU thinking time, but also to take the lengthy "3D" animations into account and minimize those as well. To make things quicker, a glitch was performed that allows for two moves to be played in a row when doing a take back during a CPU's turn.

Since the main character drives a wheeled vehicle, this game shows to be the rare kind of a variable scrolling speed shooter, where you can slow the car down if you can't keep up with the action (which obviously never happens in a TAS). Cheetahmen II is the unfinished sequel to game #52 of Action 52. The game contains 6 of the 10 levels originally proposed, in which the player takes control of Apollo, Hercules, and Aries, switching off every two levels.
This is the first movie to abuse the fact that some games do not initialize their states before reading them, which in this case results in one of the cart registers randomly taking a certain value that can force the game to start from level 5 on power-on.
Since the game really behaves like that on the console, it was decided to allow presetting such truly random bits on the emulator side. Read the submission text and its discussion thread for more details.

Gotcha! The Sport! is a video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System that was released in 1987 based on the 1985 film Gotcha!. It is a Capture the Flag-style game played with paintball guns loaded with simulated paintballs.
The player's mission is to get through the level, capture the enemy flag by shooting it, and return it to your base. This is while simultaneously trying not to get shot by the other team, run out of ammo, or run out of time. A light gun is necessary for this game, but one needs to also use the controller. The directional pad will move the screen left and right. Ammo boxes can be found sitting on the ground or carried by enemies in the background. It seems that only misses cost you ammo, so if one's aim is precise, they will receive a significant bonus for leftover ammunition.
There are three levels in the game: Woods, Warehouse District and Snow Fields. The Woods and Snow Fields levels feature enemies in military garb, while the Warehouse District features enemies modeled after early 1980s punks. These rounds repeat in this order infinitely; each time around, the reaction time needed for the enemies to aim and fire is reduced.
In this run, adelikat uses his amazing uber-Aimbot skills to decimate anyone and everyone who stands in his way to capture the flag. This movie is a demonstration of NES Zapper support in the most recent versions of BizHawk, and is the first movie to use the new bk2 file format for BizHawk.

Published on 11/2/2006
In this run, adelikat picks up maximum speed upgrades and has fun with perfect reflexes, much like the previous movie. That is certainly something nice to do, because the game scrolls automatically and the player cannot affect the speed. However, the point of this movie is not just to beat this game as fast as possible, but rather to do all kinds of unpredictable and awe-inspiring things rarely seen in any TAS — without losing time. See for yourself.
This is probably one of the best illustrations on how to create art out of a simplistic and otherwise uninteresting game to watch.
What is also different about this movie is an extra warp which significantly shortens the game, and the use of a new tool (input macro) as described in the submission text. Bots are occasionally used to generate pseudorandom input while still avoiding death.
Also be sure to check out this movie being played back on an actual NES.

Here is a game that was made as a tribute to Ronnie James Dio and features him as the main character. Also, the name of the game is taken from Dio's band's Holy Diver album. Beside that, the ending contains additional references to other famous rock/metal figures.
Gameplay of this game is very similiar to Castlevania and some textures and the last boss are similar to Contra's. This game is also known to be nearly impossible to complete on a real console.
This is a 1 minute 36 second improvement over the previous movie due to the use of new tricks, weapon selection, and some new shortcuts.

In this TAS of Jaws, the attack level is upgraded to 3, which is the minimum required to kill Jaws in a single encounter. 30,000 points are needed to get the mini-sub which has double attack power. Because of this, a regular encounter is substituted for a Jaws encounter, so that Jaws can be hit for more points.

Karnov is one of those games whose fame defies my logicBisqwit.
The game retells the legend of a muscular fire-spitting man called Karnov, employed by Scottish villagers to eat gypsies' babies and pillage their settlements. Except in this particular case, Karnov's full name is Jinborov Karnovski, he looks like an old-school Ukrainian, turns blue when hit, and his goal here is to take some kind of treasures from feeble, unsuspecting enemies. Later in the game he also grows a pair of wings and flies. In doing so, he strongly defies laws of physics, common sense, and notions of subtle Kid Icarus mockery.
The developers of this game, Data East, probably decided it would be a good idea to only let the screen scroll in one direction at once, and pretty slowly at that. It's not particularly surprising, though, considering the previous paragraph.
This new version of Karnov TAS by adelikat is a ~5 second improvement over the previous movie by Arc. The time was saved thanks to taking damage in a different part of the run, as well as various small optimizations scattered around.

Metal Force is an unlicensed game developed by Open Corp. (who also made Buzz and Waldog) and released in 1994 in South Korea. It is of surprisingly solid quality for an unlicensed title. It controls similarly to classic Mega Man games, except you have two different weapons which you can switch between and upgrade by collecting power-ups from enemies. Aside from that, it is a linear adventure comprised of 7 missions, with a boss battle at the end of each. The stages of each mission are quite expansive and packed with enemies and obstacles.
This game was run as part of TASVideos' Dream Team Contest 5, and this TAS was built on a combination of multiple submissions of said contest - hence the high number of authors.
In this TAS, the authors make expansive use of the weapons and the various boosts in order to beat the game in 13 minutes and 9.6 seconds.
