In Mercs, an arcade game that is also available for the Genesis, each player takes control of a member of the Wolf Force, to rescue the former President in Africa.
DarkKobold uses all three guys to save him as fast as possible.

To play the FBM file without any problems, it is important to disable the Use M68000 assembly core option in the emulator.

Not only does Michael Jackson have a Genesis video game, he also has an Arcade game! This game is loosely based on the movie of the same name, featuring Michael Jackson saving children from Mr. Big. When Michael meets his pet monkey Bubbles, he turns into a killer robot!
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker is a 3 player arcade game, where you play either a white-, red-, or black-suited Michael Jackson. The author uses all three players to complete this game as fast as possible.
This movie uses a bootleg version because the proper version did not work on the emulator used.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an arcade game based on the TMNT cartoon released in December of 1987. Konami released this mega-hit in 1989, as one of the first arcade games to offer 4-player beat-'em-up action.
In this run, DarkKobold uses all 4 ninja turtles to freak the foot soldiers, mangle the mousers, total the Technodrome, and kick Krang and The Shredder back to Dimension-X in a little over 12 minutes.

¡Ay, caramba! The Simpsons Arcade Game is Konami's 4-player beat 'em up based on the ultra-hit TV show, The Simpsons. The Simpsons cartoon has now (at the time of writing) spanned 21 seasons, a world-wide movie, and licensing from here to kingdom come. In this TAS, adelikat and DarkKobold use four of the five Simpson family to track down the missing 5th member, Maggie.
All right now, play friendly!

This is a Mega Man game that was not developed by Capcom, but rather by Stephen Rozner of Hi-Tech Expressions, who did all the design, programming, graphics and sound. The game is infamous for its mediocre quality.
In this run, DarkKobold uses precise movements and the absence of boss invulnerability periods to complete the game in under two and a half minutes.

This game runs too fast on anything more modern than a low-end 386 or so. As such, the encode is technically correct. For an encode that is slowed down to the original 30 fps, see this YouTube video.

Knight Quest is a rare RPG for the Game Boy. In it, you take control of a 14-year-old boy named Will who sets out to defeat baddies and save a princess. Nothing groundbreaking to see here, move along...
This run was created by DarkKobold while he was testing the game out as a potential candidate for Dream Team Contest 4. For more details, please see the author's notes.

Shining Soul is an Action RPG by Atlus. It is the first 'Shining' game to not be produced by Camelot Software Planning, and thus is not considered canon in the 'Shining' universe. However, the game serves as an internal homage to much of the 'Shining' series. All of the bosses are major villains from a previous 'Shining' game.
The author manipulates randomly-placed monuments to appear, increasing attack power as much as eight-fold during the run. Additionally, hundreds of critical attacks had to be painstakingly manipulated to allow for enemies to die in a single hit.

Shining Soul II is the last 'Shining' title to reach American shores, and the author's 5th 'Shining' TAS on the site. Unlike some previous games in the series, this game and its prequel play more like traditional dungeon-crawlers. This game, like its prequel, allows the player to pick a character type: in this run, the character is a ninja.
The author uses speed magic to run by numerous enemies and slash through multiple bosses at low levels. Enjoy the silly story and the player-worship bosses perform after every defeat!

Shining Soul II is the last 'Shining' title to reach American shores, and the author's 5th 'Shining' TAS on the site. Unlike some previous games in the series, this game and its prequel play more like traditional Action-RPGs. This game, like its prequel, allows the player to pick a character type. In this run, the character chosen was a ninja, for his ability to use speed magic.
The author uses a glitch to dupe power wines and bombs, the former massively increasing his attack strength, and the latter making the run look more like Bomberman than a 'Shining' game!
This run is 17:58.75 faster than his previous Shining Soul II publication due to some very impressive manipulation to slaughter bosses in mere seconds. It is recommended that you read the authors comments for more information about the run and the game.

There is also a humorous commentary (dead link) by the author and a couple of guests.

In this second game of the series, watch nearly three and a half hours of luck manipulation so intense that it took scripting and bot-work to perform most of it. Most of the bosses in the second half of the run die in one or two rounds.
This run plays on "Ouch!" difficulty, which was intended to be the hardest difficulty level.
If you enjoyed this, be sure to check out the first game in the series as well.

This is an improvement of 15 minutes and 13 seconds over the previous movie, due to a variety of improvements, and in spite of playing on "Super" difficulty, which is functionally the highest difficulty level.
If you enjoyed this, be sure to check out the first game in the series as well.

Shining in the Darkness is the first in the Shining series, which includes Shining Force. Unlike the later games, it is a first person dungeon crawler.
The author dissected the game with the help of Lua scripts to find optimal battles and avoid random encounters.

For the fans of the Castlevania series ― here's a TAS of a Castlevania game that is hmm.. much much more aimed toward children than the darker-themed games. The game was only released in Japan.
There is also a Game Boy sequel that is known as Kid Dracula.
This is a 50+ second improvement over the previous movie by Phil and Genisto.

Mendel Palace is an action-puzzle game. When playing in real-time, it becomes more action than puzzle, and when TASing, it becomes more puzzle than action. The idea is to shove your opponents into the walls of the arena by flipping over ground tiles. This is harder than it looks, since the enemies often approach in swarms and can kill you with one touch.
Flipping can also reveal some other tile types. For instance, the sun tile flips over everything else, which often cleans up the arena in a hurry. However, there are also extra enemy spawn areas that can be uncovered, especially in the last levels. For more details, see the run's submission comments.
DarkKobold beats the game in just over 19 minutes by using 2 players at the same time.

Bloody Wolf is an Arcade port of a Heavy Barrel-esque game. The goal is to rescue the president, and then rescue the man who rescued the president, due to insufficient leg room in the rescue helicopter.
In this run, the author bunny hops through the game, throws grenades at everything, and dies for no apparent reason.

Dungeon Explorer is based off of Gauntlet, but adds a plot, bosses, magic spells and RPG elements. Notably, it also one-ups Gauntlet by allowing for five players.
The author races through the dungeons with all five players, making short work of bosses. The five characters were selected for their high starting agility, and include a fighter (blue), a warlock (purple), an elf (green), a bard (orange), and a thief (red).
Also, the only exit that matters is the last one used by a player, and the author uses this extensively to use the fastest character, the thief, to run when an earlier exit is available for the other characters to use.

Kaizō Chōjin Shubibinman 2: Aratanaru Teki (改造超人シュビビンマン2 新たなる敵, lit. "Modified Superhuman Schbibinman 2: A New Enemy"), released overseas as Shockman, is the second game in the Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman series, starring the cyborg duo Tasuke (aka Arnold) and Kiyapiko (aka Sonya). Doc, the creator of the cyborgs, has been kidnapped as a prelude to an alien invasion. It's up to the two of them to stop the invasion and rescue their creator.
The author uses an unconventional mode of transport in this run. A dual-player charge shot that is done incorrectly causes the players to be ricocheted around the screen. This provides a faster form of movement than walking, when aimed correctly!

Final Fantasy VIII (1999) marked a significant departure from earlier SquareSoft titles — it was their first game to have realistically proportioned characters and did away with much of the traditional gameplay systems used by earlier titles. Additionally, it is the first Final Fantasy to focus on a love story.
This is the first multi-disc publication on the site, and is also one of the longest published runs.

Note for viewers: Due to an emulation error, there is a slight graphical glitch at Fisherman's Horizon which may be seizure-inducing. The YouTube encode compensates for this by removing the frames that cause this issue by dropping the framerate in half.

Jedi Power Battles is Star Wars meets Double Dragon with a ton of crazy platforming.
The author, DarkKobold, uses Obi-Wan to run through all of Star Wars Episode I, ignoring tons of battle droids and droidekas to get to the final confrontation with Darth Maul. Look for a tribute to SW: EP1 in the final battle!
The author also dies intentionally at one point in the run by making Jar Jar Binks disappear. I'm sure everyone has wished they could do this, at least once.
