Knuckles' Chaotix is a Sonic game that doesn't feature Sonic. The story follows Knuckles the Echidna as he tries to save his friends from Dr. Robotnik, one at a time, by tying an elastic band of "ring energy" between himself and each of them.
The gameplay is similar to that of earlier Sonic games, and after each stage, the next level is selected via roulette. These roulettes and the game's cutscenes comprise about 66% of the total movie length, so we recommend skipping through them.
In the site's first 32X publication, Upthorn uses a number of glitches (of which the most prominent is zipping through walls) to complete most of the levels tens of seconds faster than intended.

Knuckles' Chaotix is one of the few Sonic games that doesn't feature Sonic himself. The story differs between the English and Japanese versions of the instruction manual that came with the game, but they both involve Dr. Robotnik trapping Knuckles' friends on a special island. Knuckles must now save his friends and discover the mystery behind the island. The gameplay is similar to that of earlier Sonic games, with the added gimmick of being bound to a partner with an elastic tether, giving the game its reputation for wonky rubber band physics. After each stage, the next level and your next partner are selected via roulette.
Tuffcracker improves on the previous run by 3:29.42 by making use of more modern and quicker routes and glitches that have been used by real-time speedrunners. For all the details on the glitches used and the routes taken, you can read the author's notes.

Checkers is a video game based on the board game checkers. It was made for the Atari 2600 by Activision. What's notable about this version of the game is that the screen turns black when the opponent AI is computing moves to make against you, and given how fast the Atari 2600 is, a regular game can take nearly an hour to play.
Winslinator carefully chooses moves that minimize the amount of time the AI takes to compute its own moves in order to beat the game in record time. The strategy used here is not one that can beat the AI in the fewest moves, but one that can beat the game in the least amount of time. You can read the author's notes for more details.

Dragster, released in 1980 for the Atari 2600, is the first video game developed by Activision. It was programmed by David Crane, who later wrote Pitfall! The object of the game is to either beat the player's opponent across the screen, or to race against the clock for best time, depending on the settings used.
The game is well known as having the first console speedrun with the world record of 5.51 by Todd Rogers in 1982 according to Twin Galaxies. This record is known as the oldest, unbeaten world record in all of speedrunning. Omnigamer decided to try and match the elusive 5.51, and disassembled the entire game looking for how the 5.51 was achieved. After conducting his research, Omnigamer found that the long sought 5.51 was impossible to achieve within the conditions of the game, putting into doubt the veracity of the record of Todd Rogers.
Instead, this run achieves the fastest possible time of 5.57 on player one, with player two completing the track in the lowest amount of input frames.
This run has been console verified by dwangoAC using true's Multireplay device (latch per vsync using extraction board).

Death Star Battle is loosely based on the events of the film Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Your task is to destroy the Death Star before its construction is finished. You start the task outside the shield perimeter of the Death Star, where you have to combat different imperial vessels and avoid the death ray while waiting for an opportunity to slip through one of the random openings in the energy shield. After reaching the Death Star, you must reduce its structure up to the point where you can hit the core. In the following destruction of the station, you must avoid collision with the Death Star's debris.
It was decided that only the first round of the game contains meaningful content, so in this TAS, jlun2 uses luck manipulation and a precise shooting angle to finish it in less than 9 seconds. It is only the 11th shortest movie on this site, with Super 3D Portals 6 beating it by around 6.5 seconds.

Viewers who have photosensitivity problems may want to avoid watching as there's a high amount of flashing visuals during gameplay that can become uncomfortable to watch.

Osman is a arcade game in the spirit of Strider. It's a very obscure and underrated arcade game, which didn't see much of the light of day, thanks to various issues with the hardware... and the fact that the game is unforgivingly hard. The game never once lets you breathe, and in unassisted play, there are a lot of things to manage at the same time. This, along with the 3 health you start out with, can make clearing with just a single credit a nightmare.
The game mostly revolves along Osman and his power: he has the power to make clones of himself when he attacks that stay for a varying amount of time and reproduce the attack he just did.

All 3 encodes have the author's commentary available in the form of subtitles.

This is a game based on the completely "unique" concept of an evil boss trying to take over/destroy/do whatever with the world, and despite the Earth being filled with about 7 billion occupants, you are the only one who can stop it.
At first glance it may seem odd that, although the game is two player, only one player is used, and that's Player 2. Player 2 was chosen because her aerial attack gives an enormous speed boost. It is also one of the few attacks in video games that operates on frame precision, so smashing out a 30Hz rapid-fire on the controller will lay the beatdown pretty quickly.
That, combined with the fact that half the enemies in this game are of the standard "walk around and shoot" variety, allow the heroine to zip through the game with total reckless abandon. Few games allow a TASer to do that, so this is a rare opportunity indeed.
The game is eerily similar to Mega Man 7 and Mega Man X. It even has pick-throwing miners.

BrunoVisnadi improves the previous run by 00:07.69 seconds, thanks to a new trick and faster routes.
Note: The character should not be confused with Mario, who was originally named Jumpman. Interestingly enough, Glover cited Donkey Kong as inspiration for this game. It is not known whether the naming is a coincidence or not.

Miner 2049er is a platform video game created by Bill Hogue that was released in 1982 by Big Five Software. The title "Miner 2049er" evokes a 21st-century take on the California Gold Rush of around 1849, in which the gold miners and prospectors were nicknamed "49ers".
As Bounty Bob, the player's goal is to inspect every section of each mine in search of the evil Yukon Yohan while avoiding the radioactive creatures that inhabit the mine. As Bounty Bob walks over a section of flooring, it fills with color. To complete the level, every section of flooring must be colored.
nymx walks over every section of flooring in record time.

Commander Keen 5: The Armageddon Machine (1991) is a part of the popular Commander Keen saga, developed by id Software. It is a direct continuation of the previous episode, in which Keen has learned from the Oracle of Gnosticus IV that the evil Shikadi plan to blow up the galaxy with their doomsday device, the Omegamatic (It slices! It dices! It causes a 100,000 light year-diameter quantum explosion!). Naturally, he sets out to sabotage the machine and stop the Shikadi.
Using a series of glitches, Keen completes only four stages to get to the end game, only one of which takes any significant length of time, and destroys the Quantum Explosion Dynamo, the core of the Omegamatic in the impossibly short time of 2:42. In the process, he manages to inadvertently prevent the Shikadi from accomplishing their escape (though you have to watch the ending very closely to figure out that this has happened here).
Although this is not the first submitted DOS movie, it has the distinction of being the first to be published, thanks to use of the recently approved emulator JPC-RR.

Initially published as a commercial game between Invasion of the Vorticons and Goodbye, Galaxy! in 1991, Commander Keen: Keen Dreams was largely overlooked until it saw a shareware release in late 1992 almost a year after Goodbye, Galaxy!. It is informally known as Keen 3.5 among fans.
In Keen Dreams, Commander Keen goes to sleep and finds himself in the land of Tuberia, where he discovers that Earth children are being trapped in their sleep to work as slaves for the evil King Boobus Tuber. Out of ammo and lacking his trusty pogo stick, Keen must resort to scavenging Flower Power and Boobus Bombs from the local flora in order to combat the tuberian threat.
In this TAS, slamo deactivates the Dream Machine in record time utilizing a variety of glitches and quirks unique to this Keen game. Reading the author's commentary is recommended.

Jazz Jackrabbit is one of the earliest products released by what was then known as Epic MegaGames, better known these days for producing the Unreal engine. It was viewed initially as being a pastiche of the Sonic the Hedgehog games was and arguably developed along those lines, bearing much of the same fast platformer action.
This run completes the shareware version of the game, which only contains the first episode. You can also watch runs from the same author that complete the two Christmas special episodes of this game.
