Circuits is a puzzle game for the Commodore 64 that was first published in the December 1989 issue of the Compute's! Gazette. Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon is a simulation game developed by MPS Labs and published by Microprose in 1990. In this TAS, however, c-square loses as much money as possible on the highest speed setting, Turbo, and still manages to earn the highest rank thanks to an underflow, where the value wraps around to be +£32 million after losing money past £32'767'000, in just less than 40 seconds. The Fire Emblem series is popular for its tactical-role-playing element. This is the eighth installment of the series, usually taking many hours to finish and hundreds of turns.

Langrisser II (ラングリッサー2) is the acclaimed sequel to Langrisser, also known as Warsong. The original game was released only in Japan, never finding its way to an official release in English as of this writing.
You are placed into the role of Elwin (descendent of Garrett/Redin), a wandering Swordsman who stops to rest from his journey at a small, obscure village. He soon finds himself, however, in a sudden conflict between an elite detachment of the Rayguard Empire and a peculiar young woman whom they are attempting to abduct. In desperation, her childhood friend Hein rushes toward Elwin and urgently pleads him to help fight off and thwart the Empire's plans. So much for rest...
Who is this young woman? Why is a major military power intent on capturing her? And what's this have to do with a legendary holy blade?
In ars4326's run, cunning strategy combines with heavy luck manipulation to produce a speedrun that completes all of the game's accessible stages (27 normal and 3 'hidden') in just under 2 hours. Virtually no level-grinding is found in this action-packed playthrough as Elwin & Co. seek to stop an Emperor's plans of uniting the continent with the power of an ancient demon sword!

Starflight puts the player into the captains seat and sets them free on a galaxy of 270 stars and 800 planets. This is an early example of a sand box game which leaves the player free to explore for minerals, locate habitable planets, upgrade the ship and crew, and interact with aliens. The eventual goal becomes stopping unusual solar flares in the region.
In this run the clairvoyant space pilot already knows the cause of the flares and gets straight to business. He buys a better engine and pumps a ton of fuel into his ship called "A". The initial resources are barely enough to reach the key destinations. The pilot hero and his multi-talented single crew member sidekick also called "A" work together to obtain the Black Egg and the Crystal Orb as quickly as possible. All is done with a minimalistic route. All pieces seem to fit together seamlessly. The ship called "A" reaches the Crystal Planet with only a drop of fuel left, so it is a bit strange that the heroes manage to escape the effects of the Star Wars-esque planet-scale explosion. Most of all, this is a lesson in ecological driving as the fuel would have ran out, if the final destination had been even a few pixels further.

Electronic Arts brings Blizzard's best-selling strategy game to the PlayStation and Saturn in this release. They've combined all the missions from Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness and its expansion pack, Beyond the Dark Portal, into one package.
You take charge of either the humans and elves or the orcish hordes for control of the lands of Azeroth. Eventually you work through the dark portal and into the orcs' homeland. You take charge of either side as you work through more than 20 missions per side in the fight for survival.
New features for the console release include an auto-build option, where you can set a queue of units to be produced, and the ability to select sixteen units at a time instead of the PC's nine.
This run by Flip plays through the Humans' Tides of Darkness campaign.
For a run of the Orc Campaign by the same author, see this run.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories is a card-based video game. The rules are one of the simplified prototypes made while developing the trading card game from the manga. The player controls Yugi, who pieces together the millenium puzzle, travels to ancient Egypt, and defeats evil.
In this run, GenericMadScientist barely uses Fusion to overpower the enemies unlike the previous run and manipulates his way to get Meteor B. Dragon early, then beat most duels in 2 turns, thereby saving 12 minutes and 58.68 seconds.

ActRaiser (1990) is a critically acclaimed SNES game which combines two major gameplay phases: a god simulator and an action platformer. You play the role of God "the Master", who awakens from his slumber only to find that the human civilization is completely wrecked, and hordes of demons are roaming free. The Master has three roles: to open new locations for humans to inhabit, to deal with the catastrophes happening there, which usually have something to do with grotesque monsters, as represented in side-scrolling action stages, and to help develop human civilization anew by controlling it during the overhead phases through a bow-wielding cupid who also repels mischievous demons, as presented in the form of an overhead simulation.
This is an improvement of 14:11.48 over the original run of this game from 2004.

Commentary from the authors is available as subtitles in the MKV and YouTube video, or through this script if watching in the emulator.

Rampart is a tower defense video game from 1990, released on many plaforms including the SNES. Along with the 2/3 player battle modes, the SNES game also contained a more expansive single player campaign with just under 50 levels. The game follows a 3-phase system: battle → repair → place cannons → battle. Failing to build a wall around a castle results in losing a life, where destroying all enemy ships completes the level.
In this TAS, Natetheman223 aims to cover as much land as possible, while having fun by making some cool designs, and pretty much making a fool out of the enemy ships.

SimAnt is a simulation game where you control and cultivate a colony of ants and pit them against another ant colony. However, as these ants are in the backyard of a suburban home, they must also defend themselves against the humans that might kill them, deliberately or not. The mode played in this run is "Full Game", where your goals are to eliminate the enemy ant colony and drive out the humans from their home.

Skipp and Friends: Unexpected Journey is a homebrew puzzle game for the SNES starring three furry friends: Skipp, Wedge, and Apple. They have been kidnapped by aliens, and it's only with their special abilities that they can escape and return home before time runs out. Think of the gameplay as like The Lost Vikings, but with a faux-isometric view and single-player only.
Dacicus utilizes a rather deep understanding of the game's mechanics and bugs to complete the game as fast as possible. You can read their notes here and watch a video of the same run with an included status display for each character here.
