Miniature Golf for Atari was one of the first golf video games. The sport, a spin-off of golf, is also known as minigolf or putt-putt. The goal is normally to putt your golf ball into the cup at the other end, in as few hits as you can.
But Wipeoutjack7 and ThunderAxe31 are in a hurry, so they sacrifice their score to get their yellow square ball into the nine square purple cups as quickly as possible. While they frequently achieve hole-in-ones anyway, taking two shots turns out to be faster on some holes.

Tetris the Absolute: The Grand Master 2 is the second arcade game in Arika's Tetris: The Grand Master series. The Grand Master 2 introduced the less-intimidating Normal Mode to attract more casual gamers, as well as an all-new grading system in Master Mode, the continuation of TGM's original gameplay.
Tetris the Absolute: The Grand Master 2 Plus is a free upgrade of TGM2, which added TGM+ Mode and the famous T.A. Death Mode that is played in this movie. This mode is notable for starting at maximum gravity (pieces drop from the top to the bottom in 1 frame) and increasing in speed from there; as the level increases, animations play faster and the delay before a piece locks in place becomes shorter.
Masterjun completes the T.A. Death Mode in record time while using wall kicks to speed up horizontal piece movement, collecting all 6 Gold Medals, and also achieving the Secret Grand Master grade. The in-game time is 02:40.40.

l'Abbaye des Morts (The Abbey of the Dead) is an exploration platformer game originally developed by Locomalito and Gryzor87, and released for PC in 2010 with a graphical style emulating a ZX Spectrum game. The Commodore 64 version, released 9 years later, features upgraded graphics thanks to significantly better hardware.
The game's official plot synopsis follows: "In the 13th century, the Cathars, clerics who preached about the poverty of Christ and defended life without material aspirations, were treated as heretics by the Catholic Church and expelled out of the Languedoc region in France. One of them, called Jean Raymond, found an old church in which to hide from crusaders, not knowing that beneath its ruins lay buried an ancient evil." Players take control of Jean Raymond, who can do no more than walk, crawl, and jump, as he explores the old church, discovering its terrible secrets the deeper he goes.

Doom is a 1993 science fiction horror-themed first-person shooter (FPS) video game by id Software. It is considered one of the most significant and influential titles in the video game industry, for having ushered in the popularity of the first-person shooter genre. The original game is divided into three nine-level episodes and distributed via shareware and mail order. The Ultimate Doom, an updated release of the original game featuring a fourth episode, was released in 1995 and sold at retail.
This run by almostmatt1 & 38_ViTa_38 beats the first episode using Skill 4, Ultra-Violence. This is the most common skill level used in the Doom speedrunning and TAS community.
Note: The encode has been extended to include the full ending music. This is not present if you play back the movie in Doom.

The Adventures of Captain Comic: Episode 1 - Planet of Death was one of the first console-style side-scrolling platform (shareware) games for PCs. Though it was developed as an experiment to test the viability of real arcade games on standard IBM-compatible PCs, Captain Comic gained fame as one of the best shareware games ever made, later serving as the inspiration for Commander Keen and even getting an unlicensed port to the NES.
To complete the game, players must collect three treasures that were stolen from the planet Omsoc: rare gems, a sack of rare coins, and a jeweled crown. David Fifield and Kabuto collect the three treasures as quickly as may be technically possible, thanks to accomplishing the routing of the run using computer optimization. To learn more about the algorithms and optimization work that went into this run, read the authors' submission notes.

After Burst for Game Boy was released Japan-exclusively by NCS in 1990. Conceptually just a simple 2D shooter it features three modes (normal, 1P VS, 2P VS) of which this run plays the 1P VS mode. To reach this mode's ending, 15 (instead of 30 in normal mode) single-screen stages have to be cleared (all of which are different from the ones in normal mode).
The game features a ballistic bullet mechanic where you can charge each shot to have a higher exit velocity. Since only one player bullet can be visible at a time, the damage that can be done in any given timespan is severely limited, necessitating hitting multiple targets in one shot for best efficiency.
Quite strikingly, this game is plagued by extreme lag, slowing in-game time down significantly and contributing to about 80% runtime of the entire movie (about 4 lag frames per normal frame).

Battletoads is a classic video game by Rare for the NES, but different versions of the game were also made for many other systems, such as the Genesis and the Game Boy. All of these games are known for their comical animation style (such as gigantic fists and boots when the toads attack) and their high difficulty, essentially requiring the player to memorize the upcoming dangers to react fast enough to survive.
In this version, the player plays as the Battletoad Zitz on a quest to rescue the other two Toads, Rash and Pimple, from the Dark Queen. This game has only 9 stages, as opposed to 12 in the NES version. However, unlike the NES version of the game, there are no warps, and there is no two-player option. There are also fewer time-saving glitches. That doesn't stop Lobsterzelda, though, from beating up tons of enemies and completing the game very quickly.
In this run, Lobsterzelda improves the predecessor movie by 01:09.37 minutes by using a new skip and tighter optimization.

Contra: The Alien Wars is the third entry in the Contra series. Like its predecessors, it is a predominantly side-scrolling shooter with a heavy emphasis on action. The protagonist can fire in eight directions when standing still. New abilities include climbing on walls, grabbing poles and navigating tanks. Parts of scenery can be destroyed. Originally released on the SNES, this version of the game was released on the Game Boy in 1994.
ThunderAxe31 makes quick work of this game, while refusing to kill any enemies. Well, he accidentally stomped on a couple of them, watched one fall into the abyss, wasn't careful enough and enabled some landmines... Some enemies even exploded by themselves. But it was never his intention, okay? It's a pacifist completion.

Besides adding over 90 additional stages to the original 4 stages, this release also introduces many new game-play mechanics which both help and hinder Mario from reaching his goal. This game, also known as Rockman World (ロックマンワールド), is the first of a GB series of Mega Man games.
The Game Boy series is a little different from the NES series in that there are only four Robot Masters to fight at the start. Those four are borrowed from the NES game of the same number, while four more Robot Masters from the next NES game guard Dr. Wily’s fortress. Game Boy Wily also likes to have a backup fortress in space after his first one is beaten. Another recurring concept in the Game Boy games is a ninth robot boss unique to the game who gives you a new weapon that is usually the only weapon effective against the final boss.

This game's US release was translated as The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, but the movie scenes that appear before each stage are captured from The Fellowship of the Ring.
Players take control of their favorite The Lord of the Rings character analog (Alice, Glenda, Jerry, Shredder, or Roger), and shoot their way through 8 enemy-infested locales (such as a desert full of cacti) that bear little resemblance to any place in the source material that the game is ostensibly based on. Each world has 1 or 2 stages, and ends with a boss fight.
Watch as Noxxa blazes through the game on hard mode with record-setting alacrity, using the fire-flinging wizard Gandalf Glenda for his slow-moving secondary projectiles that shred bosses. Both the camera and luck are manipulated in this run to get to the final encounter with Sauron (?) as quickly as possible - see the author's notes for a detailed breakdown.

The game is basically a series of rooms connected together. Your job is to rescue the hostages and then escape the stage through the red door. You have in your arsenal a three-level shuriken, a sword, and a grappling hook similar to the one from Bionic Commando. Pokémon: Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald form the third generation of Pokémon, after Pokémon: Gold and Silver. Noticeable differences include the graphics and interface, Pokémon abilities, and running shoes that allow the player to move around much faster in the overworld before getting the bike.
This improvement of nearly 22 minutes over the previous TAS is the result of thorough research and testing by the author. A new strategy allows ending the game with only 5 badges by corrupting the memory, allowing her to execute arbitrary code. This was possible due to a switch to the Japanese version, which has a larger character set to use for the PC Box payload. For more information, see the author's comments.

Set before the events of the first two NES games, the player gets to play as Christopher Belmont, one of Simon's ancestors.
Unlike most Castlevania games, there are no sub-weapons, and the player loses whip upgrades upon damage. Additionally, the Castlevania Game Boy games, unlike their NES counterparts, have ropes and moving spike walls instead of stairs.
This game, being one of the first to come out for the Game Boy, was programmed poorly, exhibiting lots of lag, and also suffers from poor jump controls. Seizing upon that, the level designers took it upon themselves to create fake difficulty by requiring pixel perfect jumps throughout.

Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. fighting game series is rather different from your typical fighting game. Instead of wearing your opponent's health down to 0, you must knock him or her out of the battlefield. Damage counts upwards, with knockback from attacks that hit you becoming more severe as your damage increases. Fighting controls are also simplified, making it very easy for even your non-gaming friends to pick up and play.
Super Smash Bros. Melee offers fighters from the wealth of Nintendo characters like Mario, Bowser, different Pokémon, Link, and Kirby. They can either fight through the single-player modes like Classic, Adventure, and Event Mode, or they battle it out against other characters in a four-player frenzy.
Additional characters and stages are unlocked as hidden objectives are met, and coins rewarded for playing in all modes can be spent on a capsule toy machine. The toys in the machine represent games from Nintendo's entire video game history, and each can be viewed in 3D with a brief description.
In this TAS, Noxxa plays through the game's Classic Mode on the hardest difficulty, aiming to defeat every opponent in the most entertaining way possible. This often leads to some surprising solutions.

The combat system involves the player navigating through mini-bullet hell attacks by the opponent. They can opt to pacify or subdue monsters in order to spare them instead of killing them.
