Basic Math is an Atari 2600 video game where you get to practice elementary mathematics with one or two-digit numbers. All four arithmetic operations are used here: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The game keeps track of how many problems you get right and shows your final score at the end.
The8bitbeast manipulates the game so that it gives him problems that can be solved with the fewest amount of frames necessary. For more information, you can read his notes here.

SwordQuest: EarthWorld is the first in a series of adventure games released for the Atari 2600. The games came with comic books that explained the plot of the games and contained clues needed to progress. Those that manage to solve the cryptic puzzles would then have a chance to submit their results to Atari and win prizes totaling up to $150,000. Unfortunately, the fourth game and the contest itself were cancelled in the wake of Atari's financial collapse. While the contestants would be compensated, the story of the series was left unfinished.
In this run, ShesChardcore speeds through the game with strategic use of the teleporting Amulet and efficient item management in order to get the "Sword of Ultimate Sorcery" and complete the game in record time.

Tomarc the Barbarian is an action game where Tomarc the Barbarian must rescue Senta from a cave she got herself lost in. Senta also managed to get herself kidnapped and is imprisoned in a cage that can be opened by Tomarc's sword. Unfortunately, Tomarc lost his sword in the same cave, so he must now find his sword and rescue Senta before the cave bats eat her alive. Special to this Atari 2600 is the ability to switch between two characters to control, Tomarc and Senta, and both characters continue to be affected by their environments even when you're not controlling them. While Tomarc is used to find the sword to rescue Senta, Senta herself is controlled to fend off the bats that are trying to kill her.
DrD2k9 decides not to go through all that trouble in this run by using a good amount of RNG manipulation to get a cave layout that requires the least amount of movement needed and controlling only Tormac to get the sword and rescue Senta as fast as possible.

Warlords for the Atari 2600 is best described as a competitive multiplayer version of Breakout. Each player has a tiny hitbox defended by a wall that chips away with each hit from a bouncing ball and a shield to defend the wall with. A player earns a point each round when every other player's hitbox has been eliminated. The first one to five points wins the game.
As it turns out, at the highest difficulty, you can actually win the game without even moving the shield at all. ShesChardcore takes advantage of this and provides only a quarter of a second of input time, most of it just selecting the game with the hardest difficulty.

Yathzee [sic] is one of many ports of the dice game Yahtzee to the Commodore 64. The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible by rolling five dice to make certain combinations. Points are earned depending on the scoring category chosen. A Yahtzee is when all five dice have the same number and is worth 50 points, the most of the categories. Unique to this particular port is the usage of a synthesized voice, which sounds pretty rough due to being on an 8-bit computer.
nymx decides to max out and glitch the score counter by consistently scoring Yahtzees many times in a row. The synthesized voice was kept in to showcase its ability, despite being able to save an additional 43 seconds with it turned off.

Rolan's Curse is like a simplified version of the NES Legend of Zelda with slower gameplay and more restricted game world, resulting in a primitive hack-and-slash experience. Nevertheless, there exists an interesting storyline: The kingdom of Rolan has been invaded by the forces of some evil being called Barius. However, in this movie the final boss is never actually seen. Instead of meeting Barius face to face, the hero dies while defeating the first level boss. The game then decides to freak out and end right there, declaring the rest of the story unnecessary.
While this run appears to be slower than the previously published movie due to more accurate emulation, it is in fact faster by 16 frames if emulation differences are not accounted for.

To beat The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, players must normally visit four temples and rescue the giant at each one, so that they can later be called upon with the Oath to Order to stop the moon from destroying Termina. The authors of this TAS barely even play the game, instead beating it by supersliding to the observatory and then sliding off of a pot using a bomb.
In this heavily glitched run of Majora's Mask, the authors achieve total control of the game using the newly discovered Stale Reference Manipulation (SRM) technique, allowing them to unlock inputs on a third controller and then using it to input and execute code that jumps the game straight to its credits sequence. Setting up the SRM is quite a feat, and it, along with loads of other tricks used in this run, are explained in detail in the authors' submission notes. Simon is taking another shot at this castle, but feeling horrible for the destruction he caused last time, he is now trying to respect Dracula's property and leave the place untouched (even if his intention is to kill the count).
As a minimalist variation of a pacifist goal, this movie does not contain any destruction in the levels: candles and walls are left intact, items stay untouched, and no enemy is harmed — with the exception of the bosses, who are killed mercilessly with the help of the "critical hit" glitch.
With Simon sneaking by most enemies with no subweapons and only his leather whip, this ends up being quite a stealthy run.

The city of St. Canard is plagued by an unseen crime wave. The intelligence agency S.H.U.S.H. suspects that the shady organization F.O.W.L. and their valued operative Steelbeak are its causes. The caped superhero Darkwing has made quite some enemies in the criminal circles thanks to his past heroic deeds, and now the entire city has to pay for that. Naturally, the valiant duck is determined to travel through the dangerous streets of St. Canard, defeat his foes, and foil Steelbeak's plans.
Darkwing Duck is a side-scrolling platform game featuring the titular character from the Disney television series. The gameplay is similar to Duck Tales, also resembling Mega Man games in many ways. Darkwing's default weapon is a gas gun; special adapters that modify its functions can be collected during exploration. By using his cape, Darkwing is able to deflect some of the enemy projectiles. Weapons can be changed via a sub-screen.
For a "pacifist" type of completion, this run avoids killing enemies (they might also have dropped health refills, so health management is mandatory), and to offer maximum variety in addition to the any% version, minimizes the use of subweapons (yet to save a single enemy's life, a single arrow is used). It offers some fresh action and manipulation on bosses, but can't be done entirely along with pacifist, so DreamYao has to use a single arrow to save a single enemy's life.
This is a 827 frame improvement over the previous movie.

The arrow gun allows the player to climb up walls and use creative shortcuts so that the absolute shortest route can be taken. In case you are wondering why the character keeps on jumping so much, it is because he has to wait a short amount of time before being able to walk. With constant jumping these stops can be avoided.

Ghostbusters II for the NES (not to be confused with New Ghostbusters II, which was developed by HAL Laboratory) is a licensed video game that is based off of the movie the same name and was developed by Imagineering, who developed games such as Bart vs. the Space Mutants and Ghoul School. It loosely follows the story for the movie, reenacting set pieces such as going through the abandoned transit tunnels full of slime and piloting the Statue of Liberty across the city. Breaking the norm from most linear scrolling games at the time is that you go from right-to-left instead of left-to-right. It also has driving levels and shoot 'em up levels for some variety.

This video game adaptation of Jaws appears to be based on the second half of the movie of the same name, which focuses mostly on finding the shark and killing it. None of that boring stuff such as the mayor refusing to close the town for the summer holidays despite warnings of potential shark attacks.
In this run by SpaceColonizer, the attack level is upgraded to 3 to kill Jaws in a single encounter. Luck manipulation is used to get encounters in the shortest time, and a purposeful death is used to avoid a bonus scene. Unlike Jaws: The Revenge, you cannot survive being chomped on and dragged underwater by the shark.

He must now take up his sword and avenge his father, all the while encountering government conspiracies and supernatural events.
In this run, a group of authors decide to eschew the usual ninja methods of killing anything that wants to hurt you and go for a pacifist run, only killing when necessary to progress. To accomplish this, the RNG was heavily manipulated and glitches were abused to skip as many fights as possible and reduce the number of enemies encountered. R.C. Pro-Am II is the sequel to R.C. Pro-Am by Rare. The biggest addition to the game is multiplayer, allowing up to four players to race against each other with the use of the NES Four Score accessory. Another difference is that instead of power-ups and weapons you can pick up on the track, you pick up money that can be used to purchase power-ups at a store in-between races. However, you can still collect rare letters that can spell out a word that can give you power-ups.
FatRatKnight and eien86 play the single player mode and complete all the tracks in first place, setting record times with the help of a brute-force bot to both find the fastest path and to manipulate the chance of getting the Letters so that power-ups can be collected as soon as possible. In the game, you explore planets with a small module you fly around, towing fuel tanks and other artifacts back to the mother ship, often from planets with a ridiculous level of gravity and narrow hazardous caverns. Anyone who has played this game surely knows how difficult it can be, while being entertaining for hours after hours.
No passwords were used in this movie, although a few warps were used to skip stages.
This run by ktwo and eien86 saves around 3.5 minutes over the previous run thanks to the use of a brute-force bot to find the triggers for a double warp in the first world and a glitch involving the final boss, among other optimizations. For more details, you can read the authors' notes.

An evil magician by the name of Galneon threatens the world by threatening to release the evil goddess Rimsalia and has killed all those who opposed him, including most of the Card Masters. Rooks must now go on a quest to stop Galneon and Rimsalia before they destroy the world.
Jiseed utilizes large amounts of RNG manipulation for this run to complete the game as fast as possible. Drakkhen is a role-playing game that was originally developed for the Amiga and the Atari ST by Infogrames. An innovative game at the time, it featured an open world that can be explored from a 3D perspective. During the process of being developed for the SNES by Kemco, the story was heavily altered by mistake due to a botched translation job. The original story involves four people who got shipwrecked on the island ruled by the Drakkhen, a race of lizard people that threaten to take over the world. In order to take back the island and save humanity, the four heroes must find the nine gem tears in order to summon the Dragon God that will help them.

EarthBound is a great RPG, designed by Shigesato Itoi in 1994-1995, and is also known by the name Mother 2.
It is best described as "random", in a good way. The game has a great emphasis on a humor, and indeed many things in the game are almost caricatured, from subplots to characters. It also has a versatile soundtrack.
Although this being a speedrun (tool-assisted at that), most of the plot of the game is intact, making this movie very entertaining to watch even as a TAS.
Unlike the previous "in bounds" movie, which aimed for a glitchless route, this TAS does incorporate some glitches while never using any that put the player out of bounds.
