Not only was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night the first installment of the Castlevania series on PSX but also the first PSX game to have a published run here. Follow Dracula's son Alucard as he glitches through the castle on a quest to end his father's life.
This run beats the game at level 1 with 0 experience, and the only official (recorded in the bestiary) kill being Dracula. A few other enemies are killed using a glitch to avoid the kill being recorded or experience being awarded.

Note: Due to an emulation error, the audio in the ending FMV sequence doesn't play.

This is the second in a series of seminal platformers for the PlayStation, with very similar gameplay to its predecessor.
A normal run of this game takes a rather long time to complete. However, by using a bug that corrupts the memory when jumping on top of an unbreakable box, the author gathers the crystals necessary to advance to the next set of stages unbelievably quickly, leaving only the bosses to make quick work of.

Note for viewers: The PSX emulator PCSX-RR is unable to play most sounds from this title. Thanks to the efforts in resyncing every second encode link leads to an audio restored version.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is the critically acclaimed first game in the Klonoa series. It features the catlike Klonoa and his friend Huepow, a ring spirit. Together, they go on a journey to investigate a mysterious shipwreck that soon turns into a grand adventure to save the land from a powerful demon.
Like Kirby 64, the game is a 2.5D platformer. Klonoa can only move in two dimensions, but everything is rendered in 3D, allowing the path to curve and objects outside the path to be interacted with. Klonoa can attack by throwing Huepow at enemies and having him return with the enemy. Klonoa will then hold the enemy over his head, which allows him either to throw it at another enemy or bounce off of it to jump into the air.

Mega Man Legends is the first of the Mega Man series to take place in fully explorable 3D and is paced more like an RPG than the previous stage-to-stage action games.
Hetfield90 beats this game in less than an hour thanks to careful routing and a few glitches, which are both detailed in the submission comments.

Mega Man returns in this, his second 3D outing. The Blue bomber and his teammate, Roll, must journey to a distant island to recover The Mother Lode, an item that no-one really understands, but that they all believe may hold the key to make their dreams come true, and so everyone is after it.
Unlike past Mega Man titles, Legends 2 also adds RPG elements into the mix, allowing players to talk to villagers and the like. Some may help in finding items, others aid the player with important information about The Mother Lode, and other areas on the island.

Published on 8/22/2016
This version of Mega Man X3, released only in Japan, has a glitch which allows you to access Dr. Doppler's fortress without actually beating any of his Robot Masters. This glitch permits Hetfield90 and nrg_zam to take a drastically different route from the SNES version, popping into Doppler 1 and Doppler 2 after only three Robot Master stages (and Vile's Factory) to get the Z-Saber far earlier than should be possible.
(Theoretically you can get the Z-Saber with only two defeated Robot Masters; from a speedrun perspective, however, once you finish Vile's Factory, it makes more sense to finish the stage you accessed it from than to game over and return to the map.)

Metal Gear Solid was one of the original breakthrough titles in the stealth gaming genre. It follows Solid Snake, a soldier who is infiltrating a nuclear weapons facility on a remote Alaskan island in the Fox Archipelago, codenamed Shadow Moses. Snake must rescue two hostages from FOX-HOUND, a high-tech special forces unit gone rogue, and then stop FOX-HOUND from launching a nuclear warhead.
Changes from the original release of Metal Gear Solid include
  • Addition of first-person view.
  • A level of difficulty for newcomers.
  • Improved artificial intelligence for some enemies (including bosses) on higher difficulty settings.
  • An "Alternate Round" for each difficulty, with different enemy placements.
  • 300 VR Training missions on a separate disc.
In this run, theenglishman's goal is to beat all the bosses in the game; this results in the run actually playing far more of Disc 1 than our currently published any% run, which skips literally every boss on that disc. Don't go thinking this is a low-glitch run, though!

The downloadable encodes feature vocal commentary by the author and magnum66. It is also available on YouTube.

Integral was planned for use in this branch from the start, because of a lengthy Liquid Snake monologue you can skip in Integral but not in the original version, as well as the added precision of analog controls; however, old PSX emulators could not play Integral. With the switch to the higher-accuracy PSXHawk, theenglishman was able to TAS this version, playing on Extreme difficulty in the Normal Round, and achieving the rank of "BIG BOSS" for his performance.
The raw improvement over the predecessor movie is around 3 minutes, but the improvement in gameplay is actually much more than that; the raw time is inflated slightly compared to the predecessor movie because of the switch to PSXHawk, which results in slightly longer (but more accurate) loading times on everything from transitions between rooms, to playing cutscenes and CODEC conversations.

The author's detailed commentary is available in the movie file and all encodes in the form of subtitles.

Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero is a story-driven fighting game that puts you in the shoes of Sub-Zero and chronicles a series of events that occurred prior to the first Mortal Kombat.
You, the Lin Kuei's most cunning assassin, are sent to steal an important document. However, this mission proves to be a test from a mysterious character (who turns out to be MK4's Quan Chi) who charges you upon retrieval of the document to recover an ancient medallion of untold power. Upon your return, Quan Chi reveals that he actually tricked you, and the medallion is the key to awakening the demon Shinnok (yup, the same baddie from MK4). Now a reluctant hero, you must pursue Quan Chi through hell itself hoping you get to Shinnok before him.
Technically speaking, this game represents the final evolutionary step in the MK series' 2D engine. The game takes the familiar 2D Mortal Kombat fighting environment and turns it into a hybrid fighting/platform game, where you must run and jump through hazardous levels as well as fight your way through both digitized and polygonal enemies. Sub-Zero's interface is the same as in every MK game, with the addition of the "use" and "turn around" buttons, an inventory, and a slight RPG twist that gives you EXP for defeating opponents which becomes new techniques and moves to execute in the game.
This is an improvement of an existing run. Besides a set of small improvements, the main differences of this run are a new shortcut in the sixth level and much more qualitative score management. All of this in total allowed Fly to reduce the time of the run by nearly 3 minutes.

Once a proud, spiritual people, Mudokons have largely been reduced to slavery. Now they are the disposable, abusable workforce of the Glukkons.
This movie is just as odd as the world it features. Abe for no reason decides to commit a baseness upon Glukkons and destroy all the labor force they have industriously collected. He doesn't care that it's his own mates who will die. He's not concerned that he too will be milled in the end. The only thing he has to say about it is "Oops". Twisted creep.
This playaround by Dooty (who also made the any% and 100% runs) aims to finish the game as fast as possible while killing as many Mudokons as possible.

Note: In order to view this TAS within the emulator, the GPU plugin P.E.Op.S. Soft GPU 1.4 is required with the "Abe's Games Fix" enabled.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is a puzzle platformer for the PlayStation with a distinct pre-rendered '90s CGI art style. Horrified by this news, Abe decides to escape the slaughterhouses, save the native wildlife RuptureFarms has been exploiting, and liberate the rest of the Mudokons from the tyranny of the Glukkons.

Without the light, evil creatures begin to roam, making the world unsafe for everyone. It's up to you, as Rayman, to free your friends and put an end to Mr. Dark's dastardly schemes!
Rayman is a side-scrolling platformer starring the titular Rayman, a big-nosed chap with no arms or legs. Rayman can jump and use his hair to hover for a short period of time. He can also attack by throwing his fists, or winding up his fists for a more powerful punch. He can occasionally find special powerups that grant him unlimited flying power, giving him the ability to navigate through tricky mazes.

Sled Storm is a snowmobile racing video game published and developed by Electronic Arts. It gained critical acclaim due to its original concept of being one of the first snowmobile racing titles. It features snowmobiles (referred to as sleds), stunts and fourteen snow-covered courses consisting of slippery slopes, inclement weather and treacherous cliffs. Six racers were selectable from the outset and two more were unlockable, each of which had different snowmobile handling attributes. Extra points can be scored by doing tricks, but not all characters can perform every trick.
somyeol and Gawrit here decide to make another playaround of this game, showing off tricks and glitches that weren't present in the previous playaround. The details regarding all of that can be found in the authors' notes. As with before, they make usage of in-game codes to unlock the Storm Sled and unlocking all of the Open Mountain tracks in order to do so.
Despite this playaround being labeled as having "obsoleted" the authors' other playaround, that does not mean that other playaround is not worth watching or "obsolete". In actuality, both playarounds are recommended for watching to see how broken the game can be.

In true platformer-sequel style, Spyro the Dragon's vacation is interrupted by a dinosaur-riding sorcerer by the name of Ripto invading the world of Avalar, who naturally needs to be stopped. Since vacation is the paramount concern of Spyro, this is naturally done as quickly as possible without any concern for the well-being of Avalar.
This run aims to beat the game as fast as possible while collecting 14 talismans (the minimum normally necessary to be able to fight Ripto). We also have a run that beats the game even faster by bypassing these items.

A sound plugin with less-than-perfect sound reproduction (in particular during cutscenes like the ending cinematic, which are largely silent) is necessary for the run to sync; do not be alarmed if this affects your enjoyment of the movie.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park is an action platformer for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn that is based off the movie of the same name. It ignores the plot of the movie in favor of following five characters and their journeys across Isla Sorna, one of InGen's private islands for creating artificial dinosaurs. Three of the characters are dinosaurs of different species and two of them are humans, an unnamed human hunter and scientist Sarah Harding. Each character has their own set of levels and objectives and own ways of surviving in them. For example, the dinosaurs can kill humans and other dinosaurs to increase their stats and the humans can collect health items and weapons.

Tobal 2 is a 3D fighting game developed by Dream Factory and released by Square in Japan in 1997. Unlike its predecessor, Tobal No. 1, this game was not released in North America or PAL regions. There are four modes in the game: Tournament, VS, Training, and Quest.
In Quest mode, dungeons as well as a whole town are freely explorable. It also features role-playing elements and the ability to capture encountered monsters and use them as playable characters in VS Mode. This brings the amount of playable characters in this game to as high as 200.
In this run, pirohiko uses movement glitches and speedy fighting tactics to beat Quest Mode surprisingly fast.

In Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft, Lara Croft is on a journey to gather the four pieces of meteorite located across the world. To find these pieces, Lara must explore varied settings ranging from enigmatic ruins to Antarctica. There is a heavy emphasis on puzzle solving, leading the game to more closely resemble the original Tomb Raider than the more action oriented Tomb Raider II. New to this game is a sprint ability and a stamina meter that allows Lara to run faster and perform new moves.

Wild Arms is a Western-themed role-playing video game developed by Japanese company Media.Vision. Originally released in Japan in 1996 for the PlayStation, it was later translated and released in North America in 1997 and Europe in 1998 by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is noteworthy for being one of the first role-playing video games on the PlayStation, as well as one of the few to feature a Western American setting and motif. The game features 2D computer graphics for normal gameplay, while battle sequences are rendered in 3D.
Taking place in the fantasy world of Filgaia, Wild Arms follows the adventures of a band of miscreants and adventurers called Dream Chasers who scour the world in search of excitement and fortune. The player assumes control of a young boy named Rudy who has the ability to operate powerful weapons called Ancient Relic Machines (ARMs), forbidden remnants of a lost age that resemble firearms. Along with his companions Jack and Cecilia, the group must use their respective skills to navigate through the vast wastelands and dungeons of Filgaia and prevent an otherworldly threat from reviving their lost leader and destroying the world.
While this movie played by lapogne36 features a lot of heavy glitches, it still avoids the arbitrary code execution techniques that could have made the movie way shorter, but probably less entertaining as a whole.

EZGames69 uses a combination of magic powers, kicks, glitches and luck manipulation to free the world, yet again, from Dracula's minions.

In this game, Alex Kidd discovers he is the prince of Radaxian, and his father, the king, has been kidnapped, allowing the tyrant Janken to claim power. The game details Alex's efforts to dethrone Janken (surprisingly, his father is not tracked down until a later game in the series).

Master of Darkness, known in Japan as In the Wake of Vampire (イン ザ ウエイク オブ ヴァンパイア), is an action platformer that plays very similarly to the Castlevania series of games on the NES. However, there appears to be a supernatural conspiracy that involves more than just Dracula himself.

You're not alone - There are many others who have also fallen, and are willing to sell items that may help you.
The game is in a top-down view, monsters move about in real time, and the game certainly has RPG elements in that you level up from defeating these monsters. You have three stats that increase separately from level, gaining strength by physically attacking, knowledge by hitting with attack spells, and magic endurance by being hit with magic. It turned out to be not only a demo but a full build of the game, with many levels complete but unreachable.
This TAS plays a minor ROM hack that makes all of the levels playable, along with the final boss and end credits. This is similar to the hack used for Cheetahmen II to create its all-levels movie. Final Fantasy IV (renamed to Final Fantasy II in North America) was a revolution to the RPG genre. It was the first to introduce the active battle system, along with many other elements.
This movie plays through the game in a mere 2 hours, 53 minutes and 14 seconds. It aims for real time, but has a secondary goal of lowest in-game time when that does not incur an expense in real time. The in-game completion time is 1:59:28.
The author also included many easter eggs, or surprise occurrences, throughout the movie. These have been detailed in the author's comments. We recommend reading the comments regarding this movie.
Note: This movie resets the game console a few times, first saving the game and then loading it, so to watch it on an emulator, you will need an emulator that supports recording the console resets.

This movie was made with the original English-language version. The downloadable encodes were encoded with the Action Replay code 0495DCFF, which keeps the music volume from decreasing while the game is paused.
