This is a installation TAS of "The Chessmaster 4000 Turbo" in BizHawk to whomever might need it.
Step 1. Create w311.hdd
Use the steps outlined at this time of writing under the "Windows 3.11" tab here to create the HDD image containing Windows 3.11.
Step 2. Find the floppy disk version of "The Chessmaster 4000 Turbo”
I used .img files with the following hashes:
| File | MD5 hash | SHA-1 |
|---|---|---|
| disk1.img | c07c1ace953d75a4460d7e9c737ba155 | 8c184381654899d8433db38737ddd9a64e2b1e38 |
| disk2.img | 81dad76b2c108159e9cc01beecf2a14a | 8377198bdfda21afc942f232a6e0b5f7673f22e5 |
| disk3.img | 2cbad43397e6e537bf554915de15071a | 4943839b8b0280ec7cd2c7d794589f7c119eccbb |
Step 3. Play the installation TAS
First, create a .conf file with the following text:
[autoexec]
cd windows
win a:/setup.exe
Save it as "Chessmaster 4000 Install.conf" and then, load an XML file into Bizhawk 2.11 with this content:
<BizHawk-XMLGame System="DOS" Name="Chessmaster 4000 Install">
<LoadAssets>
<Asset FileName="./w311.hdd" />
<Asset FileName="./Chessmaster 4000 Install.conf" />
<Asset FileName="./Chessmaster 4000 Turbo, The/disk1.img" />
<Asset FileName="./Chessmaster 4000 Turbo, The/disk2.img" />
<Asset FileName="./Chessmaster 4000 Turbo, The/disk3.img" />
</LoadAssets>
</BizHawk-XMLGame>
Then, run this installation TAS.
Upon completion, export the HDD as "Chessmaster 4000.hdd"
The installation should install the game, switch the display to S3 Trio(...) 640x480 64k and then change the layout to Plain and Simple before closing Windows. The installation should do it in the 1993 preset.
