I fixed it yesterday.

What if I submitted only the lower quality game? Would you have accepted it without issues and then obsoleted after that I submitted a movie made with this higher quality game?
I'd definitely raise my question as well, in the discussion.

I don't see why quality should be considered in relation of existing games. I agree when it's done for ROM hacks, because we can obsoleted different ROM hacks to each other, but it's not the same for actually different games, especially in Vault. We can't obsolete with a different game just because the game used in the previous publication is lower quality.
It's about similarities in gameplay too, not just one being lower quality. Yet I recognize that the levels are different, just like they are different between the original AB game, the Genesis variant, and this NES port.

Technickle, this has happened too many times where you submit movies that are still suboptimal and easily improbable by spike. Is there a reason for this? Are you spending enough time making your movies? Are you struggling with anything in terms of the tools you use? Despite the hostility being exhibited in this thread, there are people around here that can help you learn how the tools work or some tips in optimization. However, If you keep this up, you are going to lose your submission privileges eventually. I would rather you try to learn something from all of this, but I’m not seeing it here. If you need help, just ask for it.

It looks like none of the movies you've submitted so far is up to the site's standards of optimality. Previously I let it slide due to unpredictable routing in TG2, but play itself has been sloppy for years. I planned to check optimality of TG3000 and look at your optimization skills once again, but this submission shows that you're not learning at all. Technickle, this is an official warning. If you submit one more movie that gets easily improved by the audience or the judge, your submission privileges will be revoked. You've been given enough tips and advises over the years, and they're not helping. So this is your last chance to improve upon yourself. If you want to get your WIPs reviewed, post them in threads for games you're TASing and ask for feedback. If people acknowledge that they can't beat your times, only then consider it worth submitting. It's basically how most of the TASers take this hobby: they submit only when there's no feasible improvements to think of.

Uhm, now that I think about it... Everything we said here doesn't apply if we're playing a game in GBCinGBA mode, since that literally means that GBA (or GBI) is the hardware that it's being emulated, and the palette used should reflect that... Right? And the objectively correct palette for GBCinGBA mode is Vivid, as it reflects to what we already use for GBA movies. Since the Vivid palette can potentially make some GBC movies less appealing (see Pokémon Puzzle Challenge), I think that we should allow GBCinGBA only for Moons and Stars movies, unless that mode is being used for accessing GBA-only content (see Wendy: Every Witch Way) or if the game has a built-in color adjustment logic (see Harry Potter). EDIT: Actually, that makes things worse, as the GBC games that adjust colors for GBA are actually taking as refer the original GBA only, as opposed to the later commercialized GBA SP that featured a backlight that improved brightness. So, I my opinion, GBCinGBA should still not be allowed for Vault if it accesses purely aesthetic routines only.

I agree that console verification is a good reason to allow GBC-in-GBA mode for GB games, since console verification is an activity directly related with TASing, as it works as a proof of legitimacy for movies made with TASing tools. About one year ago I suggested to allow the GBC mode for GB games only for Moons and Stars, but it was deemed unnecessary. Personally, I'm fine either way about it, as long there is general agreement.

The main point here is that the game itself isn't trivial overall, so it's acceptable. If some movie may lead to simplistic strategies, it's still not as simple as #5799: Flip & ajfirecracker's Genesis Aladdin, Disney's "game end glitch" in 00:02.64. So yeah, worth submitting, for Vault.

After having watched both this and #6688: ThunderAxe31's NES Angry Birds (Nice Code) in 07:51.21, since we accept bootlegs to Vault based on game quality, I think it will be a good idea to prefer this Angry Birds game to all other "versions" of it that exist for NES. What do you guys think?

Nice vid, it talks about some important things I noticed in myself. The main idea is, there is infinity of paradoxes in reality that we're always missing, and each such paradox can fix some tiny bit of our inner self if we discover it. If you're suffering from some emotion that always comes back and spoils everything, there's always some counter-intuitive notion that makes you go "oh shit, how was I so dumb for so long?! that's how it's supposed to work! hell yeah!". You may spend years not noticing it, with no one around you aware that there's even any solution, let alone knowing what to do exactly. She says that the problem is that your inner self keeps lying to you about things. And the solution is, refusing to get carried away by it. How? For every "unbearable" thought that bounces you around, for every "realistic" thought that pulls you deeper into negativity, it's possible to put your reactions to them on pause, like in emulation, and to examine them. Facing the idea that "the gremlin" gives you, without reacting to it, is very hard. But the thing is, facing it is meant to be hard, so you'd be afraid of seeing that problem in its entirety. If you think you can't bear experiencing some negative emotion or thought in its entirety, you'll keep being bounced and pulled around by its tip. But if you get ready and actually pause yourself in that "unbearable" state, accepting the negative parts of reality but not reacting to them, you'll find out that fear of that state is false, and that fear is the only real problem, blocking your path forward. It's hard to explain this in strict realistic words, so all I have is analogies (after all, feelings really depend on analogies, it's common to say "it feels like X", even if there's no X around you). So the way I learned treating my negative emotions is the same as pets. Every negative emotion is a pet inside you (or a part of you) that hasn't received due care in due time, and it just kept evolving without care, slowly mutating into something "foreign". It's very important to know that humans can not live without care, care is 100% essential to our nature. If you leave a babe in a forest, it will die. If you leave a child with wild animals, they will raise it as one of them, not as a human. Even if you can then take that child and try raising it normally, you'll need to invest tons of extra care to turn them back into human; the later you take them from their savagery, the harder it gets. So the main thesis is: results of lack of care can be fixed by extra care. But what to do if you're the only person who knows what's happening to you, and the only person who can, in theory, care about you? Bring your own care into your own hell! Take every negative emotion that appears, and treat it like a suffering pet: hug it, accept its feelings, and keep petting it calmly until there's no more fear. Once you cure the fear, you turn your previous negative emotion into a friend: a part of you that grew foreign is now back home! Every time you do this, with any new negative emotion or thought, you'll feel more and more alive and natural. Every such step is a part of your personal growth. And personal growth is the only way to turn previous negative experience into positive one!

I don't believe 12 minutes of #2908: HappyLee's NES Super Mario Bros. "lowest score" in 14:32.80 is going to be worth Moons automatically. If there's no challenging gameplay during that time, trying to make it entertaining may not help. So yeah, upload it and we'll see how trivial it is.

Will it be trivial to optimally TAS, removing any competition? See this judgment as an example of such case: #6345: MarbleousDave's NES Duck Hunt "All levels" in 1:15:12.15.

The movie won't change, and as you said we can keep discussing it, so I don't think setting it to delayed is going to affect anything. We can just wait, while talking occasionally.

I watched this along with the regular MM4 TAS and Burst Chaser × Air Sliding. Gameplay in all 3 is significantly different, in both hacks the levels are reworked. BCAS has 2 gimmicks that make it different, and they're used throughout the entire run. Voyage is so heavily redone that it looks like a completely different game (the patch is also twice bigger than BCAS). I'm not exactly sure how we compare entertainment between those 2 hacks. BCAS got really good feedback and great ratings, but the judge didn't like it and expected it to be obsoleted someday. This movie got little feedback. BCAS has got almost 5k downloads on romhacking.net since 2014, while Voyage has got 3k in a year. 2,860 hits on google for "Mega Man 4 Voyage", 13,500 for "Burst Chaser x Air Sliding". -infinity is the only hack that has more downloads than those 2 (~30k).

Watched the non-camhack encodes for the 4 branches (any% and singulars). If we ignore slight difference in how the main zip is set up in a couple acts; out of 23 acts in S+T:
  • Sonic has 15 acts that look identical to S+T
  • Tails has 13 acts that look identical to S+T
  • Knuckles only has 6
  • Sonic and Tails have 8 similar acts
  • Sonic and Knuckles have 7
  • Tails and Knuckles have 4
  • S+T has 4 unique acts
  • Tails has 9 unique acts
  • Knuckles has 11 unique acts
  • Sonic has 5

Out of curiosity, how a game with multiple branches affects the site negatively?
The general goal of branches is to represent content that is as much different across branches as possible. If we don't aim for that, we end up with 20 branches for every mildly popular game, and there'd be little to no difference between most of them. It results in overall clutter and drowning in tons of arbitrary rule variations that only people who RTA or TAS a given game can enjoy or understand. The Moons tier's target audience is not only people who actually work on games, but also regular viewers, the casual crowd, anyone curious. It doesn't mean we want to ignore the TASers of course. In the end we want to make it pleasant for both camps. So whenever the branch count for some run is unusually high, we seriouly ask ourselves if that's clutter already, or maybe there's some more room for unique content. From the list above, any% is the least unique, Sonic is the most similar to any%, and Knuckles is the most unique. Tails is more similar than unique, still quite different from all others. So how am I gonna solve it? Several people prepared to see this run rejected, several people said it'd be very bad to combine branches, several people said singular branches look similar, and now after measuring everything we currently have, Sonic is the least unique singular branch. I guess the only thing we don't know is which branches will have different routes in what acts if everything is redone using all the new tricks. Here's what I have:

Tried to summarize opinions. This isn't getting easier at all. Both sides are really strong. If you feel there are more arguments regarding why or why not, please post. New branch
Something that might be reassuring is that this'll probably be the last new run in a new category this game will get for a good while. Could even be the last one altogether.
Low-glitch would be conceptually different enough to become a new branch. And there are no doubts about its support either.
Along with having multiple valid goal choices (any%, NG+, 100%, and ring attacks) it also has multiple characters which are all unique in their own way. Don't get me wrong I'm definitely not saying there should be a branch for every single possible combination. I'm just saying it's reasonable for a game like this to end up with so many branches.
I would vote for publication to its own separate branch, consistent with past precedent surrounding this particular game. While that precedent, itself, may be somewhat at odds with the way TASvideos likes to handle branches in general, I think it may be okay as S3K is one of the main entries in the entire Genesis library, partly because of the sheer amount of content that it has as one game spanning two carts.
I think the rule should really apply to limit the amount of community created branches for each game, not for branches offered by the game.
It seems obvious to me that there's a real market for all three solo-character runs, and they each deserve an any% branch.
These quotes basically mean that internal conditions available in this game are so inherently varied that huge branch count is unavoidable and justified. Some branches feel similar
As a casual player, I definitely would not feel the need to play all 4 character combinations. Sonic & Tails is not different enough to me from solo sonic or solo tails to warrant a separate playthrough. Or perhaps vice versa. Maybe I wouldn't feel the need to do solo sonic if I did Sonic & Tails. In that sense the character differences are minor.
By this point, I've pretty much lost interest in glitched runs of this game; watching terrain scroll by every couple seconds while a character is teleporting or clipping through, and then watching a stage-end score tally/cutscene that is almost as long as the entire stage gets old after a while. EDIT: Note that I'm not specifically advocating for a category cap or anything like that. But if it is decided that we only have a total of 8, I'd rather have a no-holds-barred, maximum speed run and a low-glitch solo Sonic run which we still don't have instead of the current 100% and this run (which is, for all intents and purposes, a Sonic and Tails any% without Tails), because the latter two don't fully commit to a particular style of gameplay.
I don't think it's fair to require an emulator hack to be able to appreciate the movie.
Solo runs may feel similar to casual viewers, despite the routing differences. I can't agree that experience and concept of the solo branches is fundamentally unique. Glitches also make camera hacks mandatory, because without them there's even less difference (or entertainment?) Why combine branches
Obsolete Knuckles with Tails. Obsolete Tails with this run. That way we have a Knuckles branch as well as one full completion branch, and further single-player runs could obsolete one another based on technical novelty and entertainment. Then if someone invents a novel concept, be it "low glitch" or something else entirely, there will be a place for some more branches that are meant to represent entirely different play style other than "same single-char levels with some new tricks". This option preserves the most different concepts separated and advertises up-to-date runs.
Why not
That’s only going to discourage people from tasing this game again.
The fact that this got so overly complicated to the point where you have to do this kind of trickery with the branches is really heartbreaking. Regarding glitchless/low glitch runs. That actually ties into this topic. I was considering making some myself at some point in the future, but after this ordeal I’m afraid of what may happen if I do so. Like, you actually discouraged me from making these runs now.
It seems like the desire to keep the branch count low is not doing anything productive except hurting the desire of TASers going forward, so I am not sure that the rule is having any desired useful effect.
