I don't know if the desyncs are because of ISO rather than BIN. I have a Mega Man X4 ISO and it desyncs often while recording (not while playing back, though some sound plugins (P.E.Ops in particular) may desync playback. I also assume that the only Mega Man 8 and Mega Man X5 ROMs going around are BIN files, since that's what I got, and PSX ROMs are rare. No desync reports from any of those games so far.

Uh, how do you return to the menu in PCSX without ending the game? I tried esc, but I could not resume the game after that.
"Emulator"->"Run" to resume.
The only thing '"Emulator"->"Run"' does for me is attempt to resume the game but fail and end up freezing. Also, I have no way of resetting the game other than closing the emulator. "Emulator"->"Reset" doesn't do anything. When prompted to select a ROM/ISO, if one refuses, one is booted out of the emulator. Why? I know Bisqwit already said this, but I don't understand the "cannot play ISO" (or something) messages when it seems to play ISOs perfectly. Anyway, good work, mz. I tried out the emulator (v0.0...06) and I like it. However, I get desyncs frequently while making a movie, so I have to check my work consistently.

Are you serious, or just joking around? Anyway, here are some options: http://www.rapidshare.de/ http://www.filefront.com/ http://www.mediafire.com/

Since no one knows what determines when the colony blows up, I suggest that you use savestates and create a situation where the colony blows up about 30%-70% of the time, and determine at what point the decision is made.

MEncoder takes some .avi produced by anything (for example, the emulator) and encodes it to produce a smaller size. It's hard to explain every option or what exactly to do. If you want just to put a 10 min. file onto YouTube, you don't need MEncoder.

The publisher forgot to obsolete the previous movie again?

YouTube limit is 10 minutes and 1GB. If you mean that the movie you are trying to upload is too long, split it using VirtualDub. (See http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/MakingAVI.html) If you mean that the movie you are trying to upload is too large in memory (but is 10 minutes or less), don't use the "uncompressed" option. In other words, use any codec.

A way to do mid-air hadoken: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/311803909/FractalFusion%20mmx%20midair%20hadoken.smv Steps to do the mid-air hadoken: - Charge up Shotgun Ice and place the ice platform in a wall. - Stand on the platform. - Start the hadoken sequence (v v> >) without firing, and press Start. - Switch to X Buster. - Press fire as soon as you regain control. Solon, I admit that I raised the standard very high with my Megaman X published run. If you would like to pursue some other project, go ahead.

Have you ever thought about trying to manipulate a large and densely mined board that can be solved in one "click"?
The story boards cannot be manipulated. Custom boards with all but one square filled with mines are pretty much the same situation as in your submission (no matter how large). For slightly less-dense boards, the situation is unclear. I haven't tried yet.

Done! Though I'm disappointed that, with one minefield left to TAS, you just had to spoil the fun. At least this submission taught me a lesson for being lazy. Congratulations for creating the shortest TAS that beats something, but I voted no.

FractalFusion> Mind sharing that fcm so we can test it?
It's not a particular FCM. If I click on any file and click "Open", the dialog box closes but nothing happens. It does not say "Converted 1 files(s)..." and no FM2 is produced. Though if I select 2 or more files and click "Open", then it works.

On my computer, I cannot convert only 1 FCM to FM2. If I try, no message is displayed. Only 2 or more FCMs can be converted.

As someone commented, "minimal presses" is far from unambiguous. Is it: 1) The sum of all the keys which are in their down state at each frame? 2) The amount of keys pressed to their down state during the movie? 3) The amount of key state changes during the movie? (In other words, each time the state of a key changes, ie. from non-pressed to pressed and vice-versa, that counts as one.)
While the definition of "minimal presses" is subject to debate, I reason that Nach intended definition #2 on the following basis:

Can SMB be beaten in less than 60 presses?

I take some of that back, SMB would only need Right+B once the entire game, leaving the rest of it to minimal jumps.
The phrase "minimal jumps" probably means "minimal number of jumps". Most other interpretations contradict the first half of the sentence in which it appears. Under #2, any key switch from non-pressed to pressed (or a key press from the first frame) counts as 1, and nothing else. Then my SMB movie has 163 key presses. Under #3, my SMB movie has 2*163-3=323 key changes. 322 if I held Start the whole way. Whether key presses on the first frame should count or not is again debatable.

Does holding a button for 5 frames count as 1 press or 5?
Holding a button counts as 1 press. If we count input frames, there is no way to bring it below 15000 10000 (Edit: I don't know what I'm talking about).

Super Mario Bros. done in 162 163 button presses: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1372908278/Super%20Mario%20Bros%20%28PRG%200%29%20%28JU%29%20least%20press2.fcm I did it just for the concept. There was no attempt at making it as fast as possible. By level: begin: 1 1-1: 15 1-2: 15 4-1: 13 14 4-2: 15 8-1: 34 8-2: 19 8-3: 15 8-4: 35 total: 162 163

Edit: I made it to 4-2 with 49 button presses, but now I can't do the trick with the vine where you go in the pipe and get sent to the warp zone. Even when I get stuck in the wall and get taken to the extreme right edge of the screen, it doesn't work. Any suggestions?
The reason why it works in the published SMB run is because of the part where Mario enters the wall in 4-2 which advances him further right relative to the screen. I can't explain more. Now you know who's also working on it. :)

The part that I liked the most was in Needle Man's stage when Megaman halted in the sliding tunnels, making it look like the game froze.

I had Internet all the way up to July 11; after that, I only had limited access (from privileges given by hotels). For security reasons, I don't reveal the vacation until it is over; hence the lack of posting. I don't have time to post much either. Meeting Internet acquaintances in real life wasn't an option. Plus, I would rather keep Internet acquaintances as they are.

I like the gameplay very much, but when it comes to plot, take me off the list of people who care. So far, I have played through the game 5 times, 3 of which were speedruns. The game was well polished in the graphics department, but the slow-loading textures are painful to watch. Add in glitches (ones that can ruin your game), repetitive and nonsensical sidequests, and bland planet surfaces, and you have a game that has been clearly rushed.

My family took a vacation to the East Coast of US, beginning July 11 and ending July 30 (today). I consider travel days as part of the vacation. I was in New York from July 16 to July 18. My visits included the World Trade Center, Chinatown, Natural History Museum, Central Park, Times Square and a tour boat ride that took me near the Statue of Liberty. Thoughts: - It is very hot. Being a West Coast Canadian (moderate temperatures), the difference is unsettling. - I'm amazed at the number of Québécois visiting the US East Coast. - New York downtown is super hectic. The subway is no different. It made visits to Washington DC and Philadelphia feel so much quieter. - It feels strange looking at the void that two skyscrapers used to occupy 7 years ago. Most of it is now construction work. - Chinatown is just like any other Chinatown I've seen. The surprise here is a restaurant strangely named "New Big Wang" (the Chinese name was 新大汪 or something; I'm not sure of the last word). By the way, about half of the dinners on the vacation were spent in Chinese restaurants, partly because of our Chinese association. - Natural History Museum had a lot to learn, but it cost some money. I would take free-admission Washington museums any day. - I didn't find the Statue of Liberty that interesting. Other stops were Washington DC, Philadelphia, Atlantic City (NJ), Yale and Princeton Universities, and Shenandoah National Park. I'll post some pictures later if I can.

I read what happened and it's too bad that you lost your camera. I have a habit of checking where I was to make sure I never leave anything. I even check it over and over, to the point of the habit being an obsessive-compulsive disorder. Just to clear up a question: I did not see Bisqwit.

Having watched the AVI - is there some reason you couldn't glitch out of the boss refights the same way you skipped minibosses in the main stages?
The rooms for the boss refights can only be exited by triggering the shutter door, which can only be activated by beating the boss.
