I didn't notice this run until it was time to choose awards. I don't think this port is as good as the Arcade version (CPS1), and it works better with 2 players. But this is still a nice TAS. Very nice run.

You cant nominate your own tas
But I can. I nominate [3728] NES Super Mario Bros. "warpless" by HappyLee & Mars608 in 18:36.78 for being a really entertaining run throughout, and in my opinion, the most entertaining version of this branch that I've seen.

Interesting, couldn't find it when searching. Probably because that thread doesn't mention the correct title and doesn't link to the game. I'll merge.

The info is certainly helpful if you're wondering which of these to TAS if you're not intimately familiar with each one. If people want to TAS segments independently, we can have 15 separate TASs. The smallest is 4 levels, the largest is 30 levels.

I came across this today. It's a hack of Mega Man 2. I thought perhaps some of you might like this. It looks interesting. https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3231/ ----------------- This post and the following was merged with an earlier thread that I missed.

For those thinking about TASing this, as DOS via libTAS is now closer to possibility, here's some info: Lemmings contains 120 levels, split into 4 segments. Oh no! More Lemmings contains 100 levels, split into 5 segments. Holiday Lemmings 1991 contains 4 levels, two of which are in ONML. A first TAS for this series might start here as it's short. Holiday Lemmings 1992 contains 4 levels, all unique. A first TAS for this series might start here as it's short. Holiday Lemmings 1993 contains 32 levels, split into 2 segments, all of which are also in 1994 version, so this game should be skipped if one wants to TAS a whole game instead of segment by segment. Holiday Lemmings 1994 contains 64 levels, split into 4 segments, including the 32 levels from the 1993 version.

Of course, don't use any built in tools because they're not working or difficult to write. However writing to files should be available. You'll just need to do some work with them once dumped.

Any reason why you're trying to use special dumping techniques which are difficult? Why not just patch the emulator to dump the raw audio and video to a file, and then you can run it through ffmpeg later? You just need plenty of free space.

This run is quite good. You can easily see the optimization in some of the levels. Entertaining fights too. In Dracula Castle 1, when you get hit by an orb, you lose the morning star chain whip, and become downgraded. You re-upgrade it a moment later, but I'm wondering if there's any advantage to perhaps upgrading it earlier in the level, and then losing it here when you're sort of forced to take damage.

Therefore they can both be TAS'd if each is used in each (boomerang is used plenty in this version). Movie Rules wrote:
If there are significant in-game differences between different versions of a game, movies which take advantage of such differences can be published side by side. This can include things like different weapons or routes available to the player, different levels being present, or different bosses fought.

I just compared part of World 6 with 1035M, and I didn't find this current submission as glitchfesty nor as entertaining.

One might wonder why we grab the first star at all if there's another one just down the way. Well, the reason is that if you don't have star power active when you hit the 2nd star's block you'll get a coin rather than a star!
To put it differently, that second block does not contain Starman. That second block is a "Continuous Starman" as people typically refer to it. The block will only release a Starman if you are a Starman when you activate it. Throughout the game there are many levels which have a single Starman block but a multitude of Continuous Starman blocks. If you play them quickly, you can be invincible throughout, while if you progress slowly, you have to fight with enemies.

If it rules out all alternate characters from the Vault, that's fine. The point is to allow alternate modes which show different gameplay. Alternate characters are not different modes unless they significantly alter the gameplay.

There is, however, a way to get around DRM for plenty of games. Most pirated games either remove the DRM entirely or find a way to disable it. In cases like this, a game that would normally be impossible to TAS could be run through libTAS and possibly accepted to this site.
This is already covered in the rules.
No tampering with the files the game is composed of: Some systems, such as DOS, exposes the separate parts of the operating system and/or the game to the user. You are not allowed to manipulate these files except as is normally necessary to play the game, such as "installing" it. .... That means no renaming/copying/deleting/replacing/editing files that affect game-play. However editing environment settings or utilizing standard third party tools in order to get a game to load is allowed as long as the game runs as it's supposed to.
No pirating.

You added the distribution version which is great, we want that (which already appears in the move integrity info). But can you please also add the Linux version? You can get it by typing in "uname -a". Please see the example here: http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#UseMovieAnnotationsToProvideInstallationInstructions
