Tim and Geoff Follin made a lot of use of Arps in their sound. Not sure how much it is in comparison to average in C64 music (seeing how they were C64 composers too), but it's not like no game at all had them.

Oh, wow, it's amazing what kind of stuff gets found and discovered for the game, even today. I do wonder, where will this end?

but with these programs you cant generate a seed, so you have to search
Those programs make it a lot easier to find diamonds though, so it allows you find a good seed more quickly. In all likeliness, 95% of work in an actual TAS would just be finding the proper seed (with a good nether too, to boot) It's nothing unusual, there was this game where all luck manipulation I could do was limited to the title screen, and the latest Pokémon Ruby TAS also spent a lot of time just finding the best seed, I think.

You could use some of the mapper/map viewer tools here to find a seed in which you can reach diamond very quickly. Spawning next to a giant underground ravine or something along those likes.

One possible goal for Minecraft I think might work would be "fastest glowstone", with the goal being simple as that. Build a Portal the nether, get glowstone, and assemble and place it in the normal world. Depending on map generation, that might be over very quickly though.

'bout time this movie is submitted. A shame the itemswap can't be done more often, but it's a very nice improvement either way. Obligatory yes vote.

Even moreso, the massive carnage is what carries a lot of the run, especially early on. Without it, the run would likely feel very bland, and the slow pace early on would shine through a lot more.

So lately, I've rediscovered the music of one of my favorite games of my (very, very screwed up) childhood: Tactical Ops Next to the very Unreal Tournament-y Rock, the soundtrack mainly consists of very heavy, ambient tunes, the two crowning tracks of which are, in my opinion, Knight and Snowy

Well, what can I say, I was prepared to be impressed, but you completely tore the game apart. Between the precision in your movement, especially once you get the booster, you spamming the screen with tons of death and you killing bosses within seconds, I must admit, my body was not ready. All the carnage going on at times was just insane, and the occasional unexpected moment (such as the sister skip) just made it all the sweeter. I had been anticipating this run for months if not years now, and now that it's here, saying you did live up to my expectations would be the understatement of the century. Yes vote and star while you're at it.

I think you just made the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'll watch the encode though, since I can't be bothered to set up everything.

Guys, what I'd like to point out is that one of the reasons I've grown to this show so much is that I can fully appreciate it without taking things too seriously. And while speculation and discussion and all that is all fine, Ponies aren't worth getting all worked up over as far as I'm concerned, which is why I rarely stick my head in here. Personally I say, Just chill, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Therefore, have a picture without any deeper meaning to it

Alright, keeping with years of tradition, here's me flooding the thread with pointless info. I'm up to moskito now with 144 frames saved overall. I'll be sharing an input file once the level is done. In the meantime, here's a demonstration of how to collect every cage in Anguish Lagoon on the first runthrough. Link to video I won't be using it for the final run in all likeliness though, as the roundup can simply leave the stage through the entry sign. With the running power in my inventory, I'd likely be faster that way. And here's some technical stuff I Figured: - The best way to speed up plums is to have them land on slopes at already high speeds. I'm not sure if the speed they get that way is capped, the fastest I got was 75 (as opposed to 33, rayman's normal walking speed) - Using your fists alone will likely give you a maximum speed of 50 - 55. - Conversely, what you should avoid are upward slopes. Those can wreck your speed. - Usually, a plum will lose 5 speed on every bounce. Doing large bounces is preferrable due to that. - Hitting a plum with your fists while it's already over 30 speed won't speed the plum up, but give it a tiny horizontal boost. This can be used to steer the bouncing of the plum to a small extent. With that knowledge, plums should be cake. All I'd like to know is their x pos value, all I have right now is their x speed. /Edit: Anguish lagoon 1's done, 188 frames saved total, based on even more improvements. I'm also at 15k rerecords already. Wow, those buggers add up quickly.

I'm getting a bad Mega Man 9 vibe here. I need to be honest, I find the video very unwatchable with the constant pausing. Literally more than half the video is spent in the pause screen and it breaks flow unbelievably badly. Don't get me wrong, you did great work and I appreciate the effort, but please, orient yourself on real-time, not on ingame time.

Link to video Here's the first stage, Pink Plant Woods again. I've actually found out the speed addresses for the relevant plums now, which should make my life a lot easier. The fastest speed I've gotten a plum to so far was 66, twice Rayman's walking speed. In total, I've saved 120 frames so far, though I may redo the segment to see if there may be even more lurking in here.

Guys, I just thought of something. Wouldn't it be faster to use this damage boost and skip the stairs and using holy water on the bone dragon later to skip it instead? I'm not sure if it is, I should so test it out. //I just checked, the holy water wastes only like 7 frames. This might just be good.

Ho boy. I don't have time to watch this right now, but I sense -a lot- of drama coming our way.

I'm getting the same problem. Seems the thing's desyncing, but I have no clue how to fix it.

So I've been told I'm supposed to post something so this doesn't just look like a giant one-man conversation. So er..., nice wip you got there, son.

Goodness me, was that a slow run. However, it contained a bunch of neat tricks and managed to do something long thought impossible. Yes vote, with the request to obsolete the warped walkathon, for this one offers more bang for its buck.

Hello Gentlemen. I haven't heard from MisterEpic in a while, so I'll just say that I have begun to redo my old run from scratch. I still hate that it's on the GBA, but I'm bored and impatient, and I finally want to see a full run of this game. I have already saved 7 frames by pure optimization on the menu alone. I have also discovered a way to jump backwards without wasting time: Pressing L+R makes Rayman moonjump, but you must keep those buttons pressed until the frame Rayman lands on the ground, otherwise you lose 2 frames every time. I'm not sure wether it has any practical use, but it's a neat tool for playing around. I'll upload a WIP once I have something meaningful to show.

Now let me dump my opinion here. Personally, I prefer to avoid confusion and just find the first frame the game needs no more input to self-comlpete. It works for every game, is a clear method for comparison and it results in the shortest movie overall. Hence arukAdo and I decided not to include Phil's little Dance at the end in Super Castlevania 4, for example. Not that it really makes a difference if we're only talking about a few frames here, but, oh well.
