Author's comments and explanations:
This is my 2nd attempt to make a TAS of this game. I made this because I got tired of Deign urging me to do so ;P

My first was more an experiment to see how quicly the game could be completed. This one is about 3 minutes slower but adds a lot more bizzare plays and programming errors. In addition, I show an entertaining game of football with a rather suprising ending :)

Improvement over the published movie.

While entertainment is hard to judge, nevertheless I think I managed to improve on Arc's published movie. It shows a more interesting game overall, skips a rather boring coin toss, and it over two minutes shorter. More importantly, it shows more bizzare plays and programming errors in the game. Nearly every play has something unexpected.

Team & Score choice

Hardcore tecmobowlers will have already noticed that I picked the Giants & Bills who were the teams in the superbowl the season that this game represents (1991). This game ends with a 20-19 score just like that game. However, it is from very different scoring methods.

Interesting events that might be missed on the first viewing.

  • Early in the 1st quarter I recover a fumble only to be tackled by my own teammates.
  • I go for a flea flicker only to have "flick" it about 10 yards _forward_ into the endzone. This counts as a fumble and not a forwards pass and is an immediate touchback for the other team.
  • Soon after I throw an interception that is then dropped by the defender and it still counts as a touch back
  • I do a flea flicker that that got botched but caused the game to allow me to throw to the rb that made the toss (normally impossible). This results in: QB toss to RB, RB toss to QB, QB toss to RB. Perfectly reasonable playcall >_>
  • The opposing teams gets a TD but my player tackles him so hard he decided that he is one our side and starts running to the other endzone! He falls down at the 3 yard line facing the wrong direction. Apparently the game has been confused as well.
  • In the third quarter, my QB throws an interception then immediately runs to the backfield, smacks the defender and causes a fumble. It is then recovered by my team for a 1st down.
  • Throw a pass to a receiver no more than 1 pixel away and he drops it.
  • Get into an unfortunate 4th and 99 situation. What better time to call.. a play action pass! Gotta fake the run :) Of course I convert this with a 100 yard pass. That QB sure has an arm on him.
  • The game ends when my player gets into the endzone for what should be a TD. Players run around trying to tackle me (including my own team). After being tackled, We win by a game winning....safety?

Goals in order of priority

  • Use the Giants and Bills and end with a score of 20-19 to represent the 1991 superbowl
  • Play an entertaining game of football
  • Show off as many bizzare bugs and weird plays as possible
  • Complete the game quickly (mainly, do not waste time)

Summary

  • Playaround
  • Manipulates luck (fumbles and interceptions, as well as CPU AI)
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Genre: Sport

Enjoy, adelikat

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also corrected the ROM name.
  • You indicated Tecmo Superbowl.nes
  • I updated it to Tecmo Super Bowl (U) [!].nes

adelikat: Unfortunately, I am the only judge who is familiar or even remotely interested in this game or the game of "american rugby". While we try to avoid this, I am accepting and publishing my own submission. I apologize if this comes off as a conflict of interest, but I feel it is a better alternative than this remaining in submission limbo.
