Contrary to the Chameleon Twist 1 TAS , all 6 levels need to be played through in order to reach the end; Sky Land, Carnival Land, Ice Land, Great Edo Land, Toy Land and Pyramid Land.

Before you ask, there's no difference between the 4 chameleons apart from their look. I went with Fred because his depressed look makes me laugh.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: Mupen64 0.5 re-recording v8
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes damage to save time
  • Uses death to save time
  • Manipulates luck
  • Genre: Action/Platformer

I had never played this game until I started TASing it last year. I had other projects at the time so I never really started a serious TAS attempt. I had a look at bobmario511 and Kyman’s WIP and found some improvements here and there.

On January 29th, a commentated non-TAS run by aleckermit was uploaded. I thought it was pretty good and that Chameleon Twist 2 would, like I thought, make a good TAS.

I then contacted aleckermit asking him some general advices about the game. He was really interested in helping me and had already uploaded a WIP. Funny enough, I didn’t even know about the speed power-ups present in the game (nor did bobmario511 and Kyman); aleckermit attempt was really fast paced and motivated me to start the project.

After countless retries in Sky Land, finding more and more improvements each time such as new death warps and insane momentum-sustaining techniques, we finally came up with a big skip and were finally able to finish Sky Land. Overall, we ended up saving 3 minutes and 10 seconds over bobmario511 and Kyman’s WIP.

I then pursued my work, doing each stage at the best of my capacities. Even if aleckermit doesn’t have any input in this movie, he helped a lot by giving me advices and making videos about stars locations and possible game-breaking strats:

Too lazy.

Comparison table

Here I compare the times I got in each stage with aleckermit's times (taken from his non-TAS run). Since there weren't any better/TASed Chameleon Twist 2 run, those were my goals to beat.

Levels Nahoc's in-game time aleckermit’s in-game time Time saved
Sky Land 2 minutes and 33 seconds 5 minutes and 50 seconds 3 minutes and 17 seconds
Carnival Land 3 minutes and 58 seconds 6 minutes and 40 seconds 2 minutes and 42 seconds
Ice Land 3 minutes and 18 seconds 5 minutes and 25 seconds 2 minutes and 7 seconds
Great Edo Land 3 minutes and 53 seconds 6 minutes and 58 seconds 3 minutes and 5 seconds
Toy Land 3 minutes 45 seconds 5 minutes 44 seconds 1 minute 59 seconds
Pyramid Land 2 minutes and 22 seconds 5 minutes and 17 seconds 2 minutes and 55 seconds
Total 19 minutes and 49 seconds 35 minutes and 54 seconds 16 minutes and 5 seconds

Special thanks

  • aleckermit: HUGE thanks to aleckermit for everything he did to help this run.
  • sonicpacker: he encouraged me and gave me feedback throughout the run.
  • bobmario511 and Kyman: I used their work for comparison.
