Super Mario Bros. is one of my favorite games so that's why I decided to make it a tool assisted speedrun. This movie has no manipulation of glitch like wrong warp, flag pole and so on. The purpose of this movie is to beat the game without doing glitch. The rules in this category are the same as on a normal speedrun.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.2.3
  • Beat the game without doing any glitch manipulation.
  • Acceleration at the beginning of the levels to save time.

Comments

This movie contains approximately more than 18000 frames(about 5 minutes). This movie should normally be another category that I change to the "no glitches" category.
For this category, there are not many comments to make for this movie. The levels are all alike, no glitch manipulations and the like. This is my first movie and I do not find other categories to beat because they are already well advanced.
I also decide to do this category because I do not know how to do some glitch manipulation on this game. To learn how to do these manipulations, make the movie and all that, it would take me a lot of time.
Basically, I start the tool assisted speedrun.

Stage by stage comments

1-1 World 1 First level.

At the beginning of the level, I use a boost that saves time and reaches the end faster than a normal speedrun. In the underground part, I also use small boosts that allow you to go faster and slow down towards the end of the blocks in height to avoid being stopped by the pipe. Leaving the underground part, I made a boost that would not waste time and go faster towards the end of the level. I touch the top of the flag to save time.

1-2 World 2

In the second level of the game, at the beginning, there is no manipulation of glitch or others, towards the end of level two, I took a "warp" which allowed me to reach the world 4.

4-1 World 4

In the first level of the world 4, I did the boosts with the small jumps to save time and go faster. No manipulation of glitches in this level, just go to the end of the level.

4-2 World 4

In the second level of the world 4 which is an underground level, there is normally a "wrong warp" glitch that I did not use. I made the invisible blocks appear in the middle of the level to get on top and go on the warp to access World 8 which is the last world of the game. No glitch manipulation in this level.

8-1 World 8

In the first level of the last world, the level is longer than the other levels I have already covered. I made an acceleration which is a small boost that saves time. Still no glitch manipulation for this level. I touch the top of the flag at the end of the level which saves time and maybe frames what people call "framerules".

8-2 World 8

In this level, always the acceleration at the beginning which saves time. No manipulation of glitches, only reach the end of the level. To avoid a timer that would not finish 3 or 9, I stopped a little at the end to have a time not equivalent to 3 or 9. This stop allowed me to save time and frames otherwise the game would display fireworks for a few seconds.

8-3 World 8

At the third level of the last world, always an acceleration that allows you to go faster and save time. NO glitch manipulation but some jumps that can save time. As for the second level of the last world, to avoid the game displays fireworks, I stopped one or two times by jumping slowly which allowed me to have a timer not equivalent to 3 or 9 and to win a few seconds of my movie.

8-4 World 8

For the last level of the game, always the acceleration at the beginning which saves some milliseconds. Also accelerations at the exit of each pipe of the level. For the aquatic passage, I took the basics of a normal speedrun without making Mario go upside down and other manipulation. The level ends with bowser. At the last jump, I had to be very precise to pass between the blades.

Other comments

I could improve some movements like accelerations, do more manipulation like turning Mario a lot of times and so on.
What the audience would like to see is glitch manipulation, more mobile gameplay, more impressive, more beautiful to see, and so on.

Memory: Truncating unnecessary frames and claiming.
Memory: So optimization is ok but not amazing. It fails to beat an existing record that can be found on youtube.
So this goal choice, while less arbitrary than "1 glitches", still struggles to stand out from the "warps" branch. In the few places it does differ, it is simply less interesting and less entertaining and as such fails to warrant a place for publication on our website.
For both of these reasons, I must reject this submission and would recommend userfiles for goals of this nature.
