that’s not a trick, it’s just a fact that the stylus is more precise yesterday David saved like 23 frames over an attempt where he was already saving compared to the published TAS today I saved 4 frames in a certain room but it should be possible to save at least 8 and maybe more, there are still lots of parts that are probably improvable… we’re working on it every day

What is this new SM64DS glitch that came out of nowhere after 2 years of silence? MUST SEE WIP
like I said earlier we’ve always known about it, and it’s something you can theorize from watching our published TAS, but we just never were able to achieve it before now @got4n: what 4 frames trick? David is trying to understand the glitchy LJs again but we still haven’t figured them out…

ah, thank you I thought it could’ve been that, but my math being as terrible as it is, I thought it was giving inversed results so it didn’t add up

why does the site say 9:50.64? when using the [ frames] tags it gives this: 09:49.23 I noticed because I posted an improvement in the SM64DS thread and the frame numbers don’t match up with the time

09:04.53 current time (cut 00:46.42) I’ve come to dislike TASing this game though, everything feels improvable and David even forgot how to make the glitchy longjumps that save so much time I guess we’ll eventually submit an 8′ but I don’t know if I’ll ever be satisfied with the run

is it faster to make that big left curve at the end instead of balancing going up with going left for a straighter line?

finally got what seems to be an optimized glitch now to TAS into the unknown… might need some troublesome texture hacking… full TAS should be ready within early May unless something goes wrong edit: texture hacking was simple enough but damn if it’s hard to TAS this part…

I think this shows that the idea of ending input early is stupid and arbitrary

That is awesome to hear. Look forward to seeing the improved movie and this new glitch.
it’s not exactly a “new” glitch, but if we can optimize it properly I think it’ll still look fresh and interesting, not to mention the route is surprisingly different now. me and David tried this exact same glitch like a few months after we made our current any% record, we just were never able to achieve it… and in fact, I’m reusing that same old file now that I got the glitch

I just got a glitch that would allow us to beat the current any% record. the catch is, I cheated a little, but my attempt should prove that it’s possible without cheats get hype edit: got it without cheats :) just a matter of optimizing it now, which is gonna be the hardest part…

Glitches that crash the game in a lot of different ways each time you are doing them are usually a sign that really crazy stuff is going on.
:o Well, I know these 2 games that crashes and displays different results, both for the gameboy. I wonder if something can be made out of them?
might there be a chance for Mario Kart DS to get this treatment?

Firefox 15.0.1 works fine Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702 doesn’t work. “Loading…” forever for both links, even in “compatibility mode” or whatever that IE thing is

That may not be possible, since the Attack Star follows your position. Including height. So if I didn't wait for him, I would have to go back and get him unstuck from the block.
I think there should be enough movement leeway to make it possible

the strategy looks wrong in at least 2 places… and in places it doesn’t look optimized, but without trying myself I can’t be sure… I don’t think 2.8k rerecords are enough to optimize this game #1: I’m sure you can save a lot of time if you take all 3 fish in an upwards motion. Alternatively, you could avoid the bottom one if it requires descending for so long to take, and take the one you skip here instead #2: instead of waiting for your buddy, can’t you go ahead, break the blocks blocking the path, and let your buddy go straightforward instead of taking the (slower?) bottom path? edit: just noticed Brushy thought the same

I like the discussions these Atari submissions undergo. "Did you try going left and right" or "try going a bit slower maybe" is a nice change from discussing how best to insert the payload using sprite data or whatever.
when you put it that way, I feel really stupid for asking
