I like it - that summerizes my thought about this very good. Like emu, I think the best part was the boost in BitDW - insane gaming pushed to its maximum.
Next time, I'd like to see a -1 star run:)

Ok, if manipulating luck is all it takes for TASing - then maybe my FIRST TAS encounter was when I blew and knocked on my NES cartridges, manipulating them to work, lol

Hi everybody!
Yesterday Bisqwit wrote how he incidentally ran into the world of TAS for the first time and I didn't belive my eyes since it was so similar to my way of "discovering" it that it's almost ridiculous. I now welcome the people here on TASvideos to share how it all began for them, i.e the first time you incidentally found yourself doing some tool-assisted recording without perhaps actually knowing that the thing you did was TAS, or if it just was via a video you saw.
Shortly, here's my story: It was 6-7 years ago and I was playing Mega Man 2 on the grandpa emulator NESticle. I had about never played the game on console so when I tried Quick Man's level I really struggled to get past the beams that caused instant death - that's when I found use of the slowdown function for the first time. By using that it was no problem getting past that level and somehow the idea struck me that if I record as I play in slowmotion and then run the resulting movie in normal speed, it'll maybe look cool. I tried that and was amazed by the inhumanly fast shooting and how the run looked overall (of course it was a lousy joke compared to today's runs since you couldn't rerecord on NESticle). I never thought I was doing something special really, just one idea that resulted in another one turned out to be a TAS, which I found out some years later.

Ok, this would be quite rude to the viewers but wouldn't you gain time by naming all the characters the empty string, that is - no letter at all? It would save frames in loads of dialogboxes, right? This is however very easy to spot so I guess it can have been thought about before, but wasn't wanted perhaps.

Sad that you had to boycott the 99 lives tradition, but the rest is just amazing. I liked the boost on level 1-2 best.
This run also completes my list: On my three months here there have been improvements on every TAS-able console Mario game from SMB to SM64, congratulations TASvideos!

Voting yes since I adore the glitches. But as mentioned earlier, if improvements can easily be found in such a famous game I'd be quite chocked if we won't see further improvement of this soon.

Cool game, the character reminds me of Streetfighter's Zangief. I'm not familiar with this game at all but on the last boss, could you perform the attack where you jump on the enemy as the final attack and thereby end the input earlier? Nevertheless, great improvement and a clear yes vote.

If this game could talk, it would probably warn us: "Do not TAS me, it won't be funny!"
On the other hand, what you've accomplished is awsome. I'd never guessed you could effect anything in this game except the character.
Yes for bettering another "perfect" run.

I've done some (not much) further studies on this and what I noticed is written below.
You need to perform the final blow within a certain amount of time to make it work, not sure about the exact time but it's clearly faster than I think anyone has beaten him on the cart. If you beat him within this time, it depends on various things whether it will glitch or not - such as your position, his position etc.
I guess what the glitch does is to activate some kind of flag that is supposed to be set at the "The End" screen. There's no music since it is supposed to be started at the beginning of the credits, a sequence which is skipped here. Good for everyone - it works without music and doesn't freeze or something like that. Now it instead saves your life for three minutes:)

You mean the room with six slugs (the second in tunnel 1)? I looked that one up in game faqs it said you had to kill them all. But indeed if you think I overdid some rooms, you're welcome to tell - since I'm planning to do a bettering of this in a distant future.
I won't do StarTropics 2 since I didn't like that game nearly as much as the first one.
For the ending glitch I haven't really done any deeper research, in some way it seems that the faster you kill the boss - the the bigger the chance to glitch. I didn't actually try to "non-glitch" the boss that much to see if it has any specific connection with the timer but that would be my theory for now.

Added now, together with other stuff.
Yup it is:) By doing it this way I can write and push down at the same time and gain one frame! And due to 8 frame rule it I gained 8 frames by doing it!

This was actually taken from Sami's run so save your thanks for him. But I agree, when it comes to cheap time-saving tricks, this is probably the highlight of the movie.

Ok, I thought I was the pioneer of that glitch since I couldn't find any info about it at all:) I decided to include it because I've seen that lots of movies use glitches that make them more optimized, so I thought it wouldn't be wrong to have this. If many people want it, I can of course take it away and complete the game normally. I'll just wait to see if this gets positive response.

I'm canceling this. Besides this being not the best game to TAS, I've spotted some things in it that could've been better (perhaps I could break the 10 barrier applying them). I guess the reason no one has no'd this is because I'm a beginner rather than seeing this as a high-quality movie. If there are requests for it, I may give it another go, but this particular run clearly doesn't belong to the published movies here, so I'm saving the judges effort to reject it.

I forgot to answer this. Yes knew about it, but that run is 14.26 compared to your 16.22 - slots (= 2.00) so yours is a bit better in pure gaming, don't underrate yourself=) I did use it once however, in the middle of the last stage to estimate a possible completion time for me. At that time it pointed at 13.35 but a wimp for last boss reduced that quite a lot!
Thank you all for every single feedback! I'll take everything into account for my next run.

I just used your (Mukki's) video after each level to see how much time I had gained. For the playing itself I figured out the most suitable solution to all situations my self - I like to walk in unknown terrains:)
I really think I have potential o accomplish something good at this site but itseems that I'm not choosing the best suitable games for it. Next time I'll try a game with a faster moving character, but that won't be for awhile.
Also, seems like the robot couldn't find my rom, or did it only take one screen shot just at the start of the game:)

I thought that my best chance of getting some decent comments on my first run was to make run of a not so famous game, cause the better and more famous the game, the higher are the expectations.
Shooting candles in this game triggers the shooting animation which stops the guy for 18 frames, that's quite a reason not to shoot, huh.
In the pirate level, taking damage makes it possible to walk through the last skeleton shot and save some frames.
