The arrow + bottle dive one was funny. Nice work.

I decided to not waste ammo, to make it look cleaner. As for going to the right, no, I didn't test that. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see if it saves time. Ooh, that saved several seconds! It saves about 30 frames over the dropping method, and gives me a 4 frame window to get that elevator on the way up, so I don't have to wait for it. Edit: Updated GMV: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1681670550/Alien%203%20%28UE%29%20%28REV00%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv

Truncated suggested I try running the Genesis version of this game instead of the NES version. Here's levels 1-3: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/393223468/Alien%203%20%28UE%29%20%28REV00%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv - 5 seconds faster thanks to aqfaq. All comments/suggestions/constructive criticism are welcome. Edit: Fixed the link >_>

This was one of those "WTF WAS THAT" movies for me. 10 entertainment, still undecided on technical (will vote later).

Interesting, I didn't know there was a Genesis version. I'll check it out.

Load the game, then Utilities > Movie > Start Movie Playback. You may need to change your settings to match those the movie was recorded with, or it might desynch.

I was only able to watch through 100k frames of this (in two sittings) before I couldn't stand it anymore. No offense to the author, but this is just a bad, bad game choice. It is repetitive to the max, and the random killings don't really do much to spruce up the run, since they're some of the worst "death" animations I've seen. All in all I don't think that this game is anywhere near publish-worthy, due to how unbelievably boring it is. Technically, it looked ok, although there were several places where Y-turns were used when it didn't really look necessary, and the constant corrections when driving east/west got annoying (I noticed that they weren't needed when heading north/south). Anyway, I hope you continue your TASing in the future, as you certainly have shown the dedication for it, but I hope you chose a more exciting and less repetitive game for you next run.
I understand. I had a lot of fun making this, and will definitely keep TASing. How do I cancel a submission? A lot of people are finding it boring, and I unfortunately have to agree with them. I'll try to choose a more interesting game next time.

Naw, I wasn't expecting it to be beneficial in any way, I was simply curious.

Sorry for going kind of off topic here, but what happens to the text if you hit L+R or U+D on the loading screens? I'm just curious, and can't find the rom anywhere to see myself.

That was interesting. I watched the first one, wondered what would happen if all the bombs were used, then clicked the second one and found out.

Yes, it works with .iso files. If you downloaded a ROM, and it has a .cue file, load the .cue file instead of the .iso. Otherwise, just use the .iso/.bin. Heh, beaten to it :P

doesn't megaupload allow 500MB files?
no, it allows 1024 mb.
The file is 163 mb, so why does the exact upload allowed matter as long as the file fits?

I'm going to play devils advocate here and say that this run did not really interest me in anyway. While the game was played well, there was very little variety to it. Most of the games story was skipped, and the rest of the game was just listening to the monotonous engine sounds, and watching the game just drive back and forth. Not to mention that scenery does not seem to change very much from section to section of the game. There were no outstanding glitches of tricks to make all the driving interesting to watch. I managed to watch up to mission 30, but that was spread through out the day, and using the fast forward at certain points.

Argh, this game had made a terrible conversion to the GBA, really slow frame rate and bad sound effects. After 5 mins I didn't want to watch any more, but I managed to force myself to watch another 5 mins to see if it would get any better but it didn't. It's nothing to do with the game being boring, since if that was the case I would either weather the storm; skip over parts or watch it in several parts. It's just... unwatchable... and it's not really that optimized either both in terms of driving and character movements. I give this a 1 for entertainment and a 4 for technical.
Sorry you guys didn't like it, I tried my best. Thanks for trying to watch it, and thanks for rating it.

My god it's working, I no longer have to rip with isobuster. edit - where to see frame counter and lag counter? And is "read ahead" caching mode required for TASing? It's causing alot of lag, thread read plays cd smooth.
Frame + lag counters are the upper left corner. The lag counter is the lower (red) number, and on a frame of lag the normal frame counter will turn red. Read ahead isn't required at all, I'm just reading one sector at a time and it works fine.

4494 frames, looks like. 1 minute 14.9 seconds. I haven't watched the run yet.

I haven't had the time (nor will) to watch through the run, but it looked fairly decent from a technical point of view (at 166% speed while doing an encode for myself). What struck me though (at regular speed) was that I don't find the game that nice to look at on an 17" screen because of the strange framerate. Just like klmz I'm not voting because I couldn't watch the whole run.
Like I told klmz, I feel that your vote is valid. If you couldn't watch the entire movie, that says something about its entertainment value and I feel that should be included in the judging. Everyone has a right to express their opinion and vote on the movie. Thanks for taking the time to watch and post.

Hit the frame advance key, which is \. To hit a key on a specific frame, hold down the key and hit frame advance once for each frame you want the key pressed on. This page will help you get started with some generic tips on movie making.

EDIT: I've reverted my votes to "No opinion" since I could never stand watching the whole run and I don't want to appraise it from the first 9 minutes which I've ever watched.
Aww :( Can you tell me or PM me what you voted? I'm just curious. Also, would you suggest anything for me to improve on in the future? How would you suggest I make the movie more entertaining?

Nice work, Apo123 in an apparent role reversal. It was also nice to see that the movie synched which I was wasn't expecting too seriously. In terms of improvements, as you may know now, it is probably a better idea to avoid any damage at least until the penultimate stage, such are perils of jedi mode but everything else was quite good and optimal as I had hoped. That reminds me, there have been claims that jedi mode is not actually the hardest difficulty level and that hard mode is more difficult. This idea has arisen as the result of the jedi enemies requiring only one shot for death while the hard ones are far more resilient. Jedi mode is more of a realistic mode in this sense so any claim that this movie "plays at the hardest difficulty level" is disputable; just a point of interest, I suppose.
That's interesting, I never realized enemies on Jedi only took one shot (I usually just ran past them). Unfortunately I sold my N64, so I can't compare since I can't play this game for shit using the keyboard. As for the desynchs, I redid the parts where it desynched until it worked. Unfortunately, after I got one part synched the next part broke. I got frustrated, and I'm taking a break from this to work on Alien 3. After Alien 3 is done I'll probably get back to this, feel free to improve on the Hoth battle or hex the name entry to spell Xenos :P

I'd prefer faster (using the glitches). As for the Game Over limit break, that's debatable. It's faster, but much less entertaining. Maybe you could use it a couple times, but not abuse it for every boss.

Awesome work, xenos! I liked the graphical glitch, Fett had the laser icon under him. I started on the battle of hoth, but it desynched every few seconds so I gave up. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/243571022/Shadow%20of%20the%20Empire%20%28USA%29.m64 Uses version 1.2.

4) There still doesn't appear to be a "start paused (at frame 0)" option when recording or playing back yet.
Actually, disable frame skipping, then hit frame advance once during the initial lag/loading frames. It'll pause at the first opportunity.

Naw, it's probably one of those situations where the input went a frame too fast for the game to read it properly. SOTE was kinda the same way, where frame precision causes a desynch. Waiting one or 2 frames solves it.
