I just made some play around and finished the first world and there several good point that I like: -Some of the item are crazy -Lot of place for Lua script -The speed of the ball doesn't seem to have any limit -Different route possible/item management (ex: take more time to finish the level for better combo and then buy better item on next level) -Transition between level are quick enough -There aren't too many world to complete Now, about the contest maybe people didn't play the previous DTC, because they felt short in time and if there aren't any serious progress after half the time allowed, they might just drop out. What about expanding the time until christmas or around it?

Dude, you should keep in mind that a previous movie even if slower can be more fun than your new current run. You can't base your point on that. ex: I could say that I prefer this ending, rather the new one, since it failed to jump accuratly on the third falling platform.

Reaction after turboing for a while. But, some point take way longuer 100 frames. I'm sure you could do better with your script. Voting no.

Moral of the story: Just don't make TAS, there no place for pride here and at least you won't end up with your mental domaged by one way or another. The best resonable deal possible could been to place both gia and p4wn3r as author, even if one party doesn't accept, they still somewhat both deserve it. Gia inspired the idea without sharing the content and p4wn3r probably verified if any frame could been saved while remaking.

It's usualy good to have such discussion once in while, since when it involve progressive dictatorship, must time I just get the feeling this end up by a direct questioning about our human nature, etc. So far, as said above the repercussion comparaison with 9/11 and the Himmler Operation is pretty interesting. When thinking about it(this specific event), it's all about finding a situation to create a fear/hatred climate in order to gain enough support from the population to start a war campaign or wathever. Any gouvernement should have a secret boot such as the Patriotic Act to react quickly in case of emergency. Maybe this act could require a better revision for better control? But here a question, did the Bush administration made right plan after those event? Sometime some people would claim that serious change can't happen without serious clean-up, so would there be any better/realistic solution? The current situation in the airport might look like an annoying follow-up, but I beleve it could be much worse. Just look at London, camera are everywhere and the general security in public place is much much more serious than in the US. I don't think it can be helped, but in the futur we might have better and faster way to do security check other than manually molest people such as an electronic chips inserted somewhere in you...

This would be a bad game choice for sure... I think you're talking about this game. We already have the NES version published here, and I don't think that the one extra level and the few extra graphics would be enough for either another publication or to obsolete the current run. Or you must find an Arcade-specific glitch that can be abused.
Oh comon there even a movie about this game(The King of Kong), of course this version deserve to be tased!

Thanks for demonstration. Since you guys are working on a minimalOS/guestOS in (qemu?)-kvm, would it be possible to provide us his OS image? I would love to mess around with this hacked nethack version and possibly try to see if the python script could work.

Love it, maybe he could just mess a bit more around the donkey kong hand, but that's negligeable. Hopefully, we can get them submit to this site or get someone re-upload it on youtube.

I kinda disagree with the fact that the submission doesn't even use the original rom, this should be published as a new run, not an improvement. IT would be annoying if taser would suddently stop to improve an orginal and try to get thing around better in all the V1.1 games. Since there still some improvement that aren't from the barrel warp glitch, how much time could be saved with the original game?

At least p4wn3r still wrote your name in his submission text... so maybe the judge just assumed that you were both ok with this or maybe they thought you guys were both the same person or yep, just lack of interest to simply ask who is the real mastermind behind the submission, so at least the community opinion might change on the vote result.

Well, me and a friend had recently the chance to play this game with the complete set... and I'm gonna admit this isn't bad at all. Actually, we randomly encountered this game at our local anime convention and got the rules well explained by a tournament player and right at our first game it ended up with a pretty cool/fun result. Anyway, I wouldn't say that this is the "best card game", since there's Magic wich is still quite popular, while completly different and there some more, I guess... Despite you mean maybe best "package-card" game, because there seem to be no way to make a custom deck(excluding cursed card) in order to keep game balance.

I liked the TAS, but anyway... there alway someone better than you to optimize stuff. What about just move on and finish Dino Crisis? Even if the later one isn't "perfect" either, I don't think it matter since I alway felt that the first publication over a run should simply aim to be flawlessly better than a realtime speedrun. Fixing sloppiness is the job for that impovement guy, so there no point to take special care to little detail, since there usualy some new glitch or trick that keep poping up as you try to TAS a new game(sadly, 3D game especially). So as I said, I would rather ignore these negative comment and just go ahead with an another game to TAS. edith: yikes... typo x2

The slow-paced frame-by-frame encode work well on my side. So far I love this. The glitch look pretty fun: Vampire dancing, somekind of hm, nympho/necro-petrification money-maker, then a queen bee with poor stat managing to fight a hord of soldier with 8 centaur statue on he backsack, just for show-off... what the hell?? :) I don't know the about details, but I guess you haven't any problem with encombrance, so that may explain, why you didn't wish for a partly eaten cockatrice corpse. The only action that I'm a bit disappoint is that you're dropping the quarterstaff in the shop, insthead of throwing it at the gridbug at the beggining. Hehe, but seriously this doesn't really matter, since I guess that every move at the start help to set up the rng.

Much of what we'll be doing is filling levels with monsters, one way or another; there are a few creative ways to do that. We also need a huge number of cursed potions of gain level, and I'm still not sure about how to go about getting them (some other NetHack players I've been talking to pointed out that chain-wishing is the fastest method, but I don't want to do too much of that). One other thing we need in order to get really large numbers of monsters around quickly (which we'll need for Air, as we want to fill about 2/3 of the plane with monsters in a single turn) is the ability to polypile; we have a spellbook of polymorph but can't currently cast it. (I was wondering about using the cursed armour destruction bug to max out Intelligence, but don't have the items required to do it yet.)
Filling monster for sequence break? Make sense :) For the potion, how about stealing a a large potion shop, then convert them in water(cancellation or swimming a bit in a pool) and do some alchemy(the wiki say that you can get a random alchemy with some luck, so you maybe you can convert all your potion in one dip), then curse them. I beleve that diluated potion should work as well. I know this method is a bit slow, but at least you doesn't increase the prayer timeout with wish.

We've also force-bolted those 8 statues that our poor queen bee has been lugging around and through the help of a specialized luck manipulation script we've managed to get 433 rocks out of them.
Since you still have a lot of time to spend, how long it would it take to polypile lots of rock into valuable gems to max your score, despite the money-glitch already make the score crazy??? I was thinking that could drop some stack of rock and try to do some art like writing "TAS" in color. An another fun idea could be to set up some bear trap or play some drum of earthquake, in order to write "TAS" (or wathever...) then drink a potion of hallucination, so the viewer can enjoy a coloreful christmas... (since if I'm aren't wrong, only the ^ symbols stay the same with different color). and maybe have a chance to fight/color a dinosaur because of the hallu, thought I'm unsure if there really any dinosaur in this game.

We may learn haste self next before leaving this level although we're not entirely sure where we should go next.
Hm, why not get the speed intrisic by praying at altar? In the wizdebug mode you can get speed intrisic from the gift of your god by praying at an altar with high luck and before turn 2000. Oh, despite you guys are just gonna to train escape skill for jumping?

Generate every artifact then detonate them in a bag of holding?
Generate all the artifact is pretty impossible to do in a real game, that would be pretty cool to do. But since this need some wish abuse, I wonder how long this would extend the prayer timeout. How many turn, each wish extend the prayer timeout, ~minimum 50 turn? ...Or you could try to have some fun by trying to level teleport some unique monsterl(with a teleport-lelvel trap or teleport yourself with them grabbing you on a adjacent square), like the Medusa or several demon prince at one level and then get rid of them with something epic, like drowing, purple worm, slime, beating to death, etc.. Anyway that was just some throwable idea, but I'm looking foward for more progress! edith: Ok I managed to find the nethack-tas-tools on Gitorious and readed completly both turnbyturn.txt and t2000timings.txt.... pure genious strategy, particuliary the one with the eggs. I'll stroke [ s][ /s] irrevalant question in this post.

As far as tasing this goes, I'd rather see it run on the Sega CD, since that was the platform it was developed for.
I beleve that the psx remake be would far more entertaining, since the monster must "bump" in your character to fight you. So some time I guess it would be hillarous how the taser manage to faint a large troop of enemy and run away without engaging a battle. The sega CD has already a speedrun on SDA and despite less random battle and level grinding, I'm unsure how different a TAS speedrun would be.

Some year ago, I watched a japanese show(gccx) about how hard was this game(such as level 10) and since then, I've been wondering how entertaining it would be if someone would attempt a 100% run with all the aera visited at least once. I guess the awkward route/warping planning could be interesting... but I'm somewhat unsure if you can keep the invicibility item when you trigguer a self-bombing warp.

Does this also happen in the original console, or is it some kind of emulation problem?
as far as I know, it's because of the emulator. PSXjin sounds much better
Hmm.. I think psxjin use pretty much the same graphic plugin as pcsxrr, despite someone try to do a special build. Maybe this plugin could fix the problem.

No. He didn't post any further update about this. Also, I don't think that I'm skilled enough for making an official optimized and high quality encode with dualdup, seekable, etc...(too painfull for my poor cpu). Actually I just used mencoder to upscale the video, while lowering a bit the original filesize, in order to post it on youtube. Thought, I still have my first raw encode with the Eternal SPU! ...If you want, I could try to upload a .ogg from part1&2, so you could easily apply and fix the sound file with a soundless high quality SD/HD encode. How about it?

I may do an encode eventually.
I made some lua script over here, that might hopefully help you. Here the general idea about how it work out. First, there should be a bofCreateSaveState.lua, that pretty much produce a folder with lot of savestate, where there might be a desynch* . To create the savestate, just run the script with the TAS sound plugin. Once you got the savestate you can use the bofSynchHighQuality.lua script to playback the movie with Eternal sound plugin and kkapture it while running the script. Of course, these script aren't optimized and are quite messy, but feel free look around and edith them. I think that making the encode this way is more conveniant than manually playback thought the movie and kkapture the full movie in ~30 or ~50 parts for about each savestate used and then, merge them altogether. * I had to use 2 other script to produce an unoptimized "frame/checkpoint" list... I could post them if you're interested. edtih: typo

Ok, I managed to get FCEUX working with the lastest version. Some feedback: As you said, it pretty much became an emu/editor with basic feature and this look great! I think your script deserve more attention. I tried the script with some other emulator and it's works almost perfectly with pcsxrr and the "RunWhilePaused" mode (in fact, it just add some unnecessary space as you write text but the pause is working pretty good). FBArr and gens(thought gens doesn't support the pause feature) are a bit offtrack to follow up the cursor and Psxjin has issue for drawing the box and cursor. Note: For making those emulator I just switch the "elseif FCEU", by the emulator name of the script above. Despite that I guess that more feature like a "delete" hotkey to get along with backspace or maybe somekind of basic hud interface would be awesome. Also, for the emulator without the pause feature support, I think that the DarkKolbold popup idea could be good. There's probably some other lua extension module that could do it. As for the rendering output(to match with your filename.lua), sometime the gui.text() font feel a bit crappy. I've been wondering how hard it would be to write a library that could load some font and draw the text, but this seem a bit off lua limit. Anyway, I know that currently it became a bit an old project of your, but do you plan to keep improving it ?

I give your script a try with FCEUX, while playing back a movie... but nothing seem to happen when I press "enter" or any key. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Thanks, but look like the sound doesn't synch at end. If your still working on an optimised encode, I can try to re-encode and just give you the wav/ogg.
