You could look at it from the previous author's point of view, if someone can obsolete his run with a run that is only 3 frames faster, then someone can quite easily obsolete most runs on this site by just making one single jump slightly better.
I used to think that was the way it was...

If it said this in the game when the attack happened, it would be the greatest moment in attack naming history. (unless I've forgotten something cooler, which I probably have)
I always liked the attack name "Yes Indeed!"

I think a minimum of one second is a good idea for very short games, and a lot more than that for longer movies.
I don't think a minimum is a good idea. What if someone submitted a 1.00 second improvement, then somebody wanted to submit a 0.97 second improvement but couldn't? It could've just been a 1.97 second improvement to begin with, but now you're rejecting it because they didn't find it all together.

So how much time did you save in total? Just the 3 frames?

One of the problems is when I'm running the emu at 24% or less I have a lot of difficulty recognizing when a key I pressed has been read.
Well, there's always a delay. Just make sure that you're holding the keys BETWEEN frames.

Finally, I'm getting tired of replaying the whole movie so I can re-record. Can I save state at a certain part of the movie so I can start the movie playing there, then do the pause-save-load-unpause when needed?
Yes, use read-only mode.

Cool, so you're saying the window of opportunity could be in the "remove this enemy for going offscreen" routine?

So it's not a flaw in the map, but a flaw in the code that changes that variable for some reason?

Hmm, is it possible yet to start a movie with saved data in Mupen 64? I thought it was always cleared upon playing or recording.
