I've shot at a boss early in Mega Man 3, and the shot just bounces off as though he was shielded.

I think I saw a video of that once. I'm pretty sure it's possible to guide Bob-Ombs away from their starting locations a bit by standing behind them, and I think you can move faster while carrying it by jumping. Or maybe you want to guide it to you when it's lit and moving fast...
