Do you think a movie of the Game Boy Advance version would be interesting, or would it just be redundant? (A Metaknight run would be fun, but unfortunately that's an unlockable.)

March isn't as close to the ground in August as you might think! It still has to get through April, May, June, and July first.

All right, I'm just going to start with ChargeMan and see how it goes. That seems like the best choice for now.

Hm, do you think the run should be done on one of the Game Boy Advance versions instead?

Did you know that the Rain Flush has an effect in PharaohMan's stage that it doesn't have in the NES game? When you use it in a sandy area, it hardens the sand so you don't sink into it (although I think it still slows down your slide), and it stops the digger things from appearing. So beginning with ToadMan may still be a possibility. We'll see. I think I'll shift plans a bit and start testing the later levels to see if Beat helps and if I'll run into any energy shortage problems, since this game doesn't refill your weapons at the ends of levels after the first four. Right now I'm working on a movie that starts with a password that takes me to the first Dr. Wily stage with Beat obtained. I think I'll use nine units of Pharaoh Shot on the satellite dish and finish the level with the Mega Buster, since I'll probably want to save some Pharaoh Shot for later.

I don't even understand that last code. You hit Select to swap one of your items, but you somehow get into a fight without choosing what to swap it with? And then you hit Select to swap your attacks, but you again choose only one and somehow finish the fight?

That'd be nice... It's just too bad that N64 processing is so piecemeal and not well supported. I've been thinking about how one might go about perfecting a 3D adventure game play. See, with traditional 2D bitmap type games, you can see your character's exact position through the pixels. But in 3D, you're seeing everything from one of many possible points of view, and it would be difficult to see exactly how your character is lined up and which direction you need to push to reach a destination in minimum time. I imagine it might require some kind of hacky solution where a program plots the straightest line between your current position and your goal and figures out what directions to use at each moment, factoring in camera positions. It might not be out of the question to have to "wobble" the camera to get it just right.

I hate that rule about teleporting deaths. They're always so tempting.

Well, at least the computer can probably notice if it's beaten the game if it compares each state to a state or a key part of a state that's known to be in the ending. Then when it tries each combination, it can stop early if it either reaches the ending state, in which case it holds onto that combination if it's the fastest one found so far, or it hits a known completion time.

Of course, you can't force anybody to play the game before watching the movie. Shucks.

Well, I think perfect emulation is a better choice. But then, Xou did say that it shouldn't lag that much, so maybe it does need to be corrected.

I guess it's hard to see the skill. It looks like, "Okay, he's driving off the road... Okay, he's getting close to a couple of cars... Okay, he's driving off the road again... Okay, he's bouncing off a car... Okay..." It might be more exciting if everybody plays the game a little first and sees how easy it is to crash and run out of time.

Really? That works? I always thought that "hold such-and-such buttons" stuff was just superstition.

On second thought, the best part of this game is the "challenge and fighting" song.

This is one of those "turn your brain off" movies, isn't it? I'm less impressed by the game itself than by the fact that the NES can handle its graphics.
