Aha! I believe I have found the culprit! Set your sound frequency to 44 Mhz. Using 22 Mhz causes the movie to do just what you described!

(you can move this to "Game Boy Games" if such a forum is created) Okay, I've decided to post my progress on this game in this thread now. I've also decided to switch to the Japanese version of the first Mega Man game for Game Boy, Rockman World. This is because the American version makes you wait two seconds longer at the title screen for no good reason, and it will be less confusing to discuss and process when it doesn't have the same name as an NES game. But if lots of people gather together and demand I use the American game, well, I guess I can switch back and start all over. So after doing some analysis of all four stages, I figured that the best order would be CutMan, ElecMan, IceMan, and FireMan. I haven't put much thought into the Dr. Wily stages yet, but we'll see when the time comes. I'm guessing that most important there will be the effective use of the Carry and finding a good way past those knife/drill things that pop out of the floors and ceilings in a couple of areas. I made a new version of the CutMan run to start my complete movie, as I could play more precisely, and I discovered a few new tricks. http://www.geocities.com/ryan_ferneau/rockman.zip If you see anything that could speed it up now, please tell me, and I can probably play the level ONE MORE TIME. Remember that you need to have the game Rockman World, and you need to be using the very latest version of VisualBoyAdvance for it to work. (Shaneduddy assured me that he wouldn't be making any more changes that will affect movie timing.)

Does Bisqwit's Meggaman video count as a glitched run, then? Maybe the current one doesn't, since you could follow roughly the same path without glitches, but the new one could, since it manages to get the Magnet Beam without any weapons.

Well, I'm using mIRC. I think it sends the message automatically once I type over a certain character limit...

On a slightly related topic, I just had my voice stolen over typing lots of graves, it seems. I think what happened is I set my calculator down near the keyboard when I went to bed, and I didn't notice it was actually leaned on one of the keys. Sorry if that really annoyed anyone. What should I do when something like that happens?

I guess so... But there could be a long delay for it if your computer is slow and/or the time is far into the movie.

Um... For an emulator to get to a certain frame, wouldn't it need to calculate the gameplay for all the frames before it? The only way I could imagine this working is if the emulator saves a state on EVERY frame. Do you really want tens of thousands of save states for one movie?

Hey, I think this new version fixed the frame skipping bug with frame advance. Now I can use all 9 of MeggyMan's jump heights! As well as a bunch of other calculations of mine that were way off because frames were missing. Though it seems to have introduced a new bug that causes only the bottom half of the screen to be displayed on the first frame after loading a state. Oh well. http://www.geocities.com/ryan_ferneau/fireman.zip This movie was started with the previous version and finished with the latest one, so there may be some inaccuracies in the first half that don't occur similarly in the second half (plus I think I forgot to jump after taking damage once--oops). Anyway, it's worth a watch if only to see FireMan become one of the dumbest bosses in Megar Man history.

Ooh, cool. If we could figure out how to make the emulator unlock Wily Tower properly, then we could have a full two hours of Rockman.

So that's the real question, isn't it? Is it more impressive to use 2 players at once or to guide a CPU player to help you? Using 2 players could be faster, but playing 1 player would be more sympathetic to the lonely gamer.

That could work. I recall that the description for Out Of This World was drawn from a comment on the board.

Well, Phil said that he already saved 27 seconds in the first 4 levels. He also said that you found some good tricks, but you often didn't use them wisely enough, maybe because you were worried about rerecord count. There may be more bugs to find still!

Oh, I always liked the Rockman 2 video. I would say it definitely deserves that star. My only worry is that the newly discovered glitches might eventually make the game LESS fun to watch because there's not enough normal gameplay going on.

What, thinking of studying it so you can work on a new run? :) Gosh, I don't know if qFox would still be around.

I don't remember if I already said this (long thread and all), but if it turns out that the Japanese version really does force you to do things that the English version doesn't, then maybe the text speed won't make up for the lost time, and you should consider switching. To me it seems doubtful, though. I would expect the programmers to add more requirements for experiencing the game properly into a foreign version rather than take some away.

So is Megafrost really quitting? That would be disappointing, as I liked the idea that Rockman and Forte were literally racing each either to the finish.

Viper's probably not going to do it this time around, since there would be so much stuff to fix up after.

Well, I tried closing some programs and setting the scaler to 1x1, but I still saw the Pocket Bomberman movie desync sometimes and work other times. So... Sorry, I'm out of ideas for that right now. In addition, I'm still getting desyncs while making my MegaMan movies, though playback of them is more consistent now, even when I use frame advance. Here's the movie I made of CutMan: http://www.geocities.com/ryan_ferneau/cutman.zip I think I'm getting better at this. In my opinion, the CutMan movie might possibly be good enough to continue from for the final movie, if I decide to start with CutMan--which I probably will, thanks to some trends I've seen.

Yeah, that is really annoying. On the one hand, doing just Wily Tower would require either a save state or an alteration to the code. On the other hand, earning Wily Tower properly would require both fixing the emulator to use saves correctly and going through all three games in a row during the run, causing the majority of the movie to be runs of games we've already seen played on the NES.

Okay, this is really, REALLY weird, because apparently I was wrong, and the settings have nothing to do with it. I can try the movie over and over again with the same old settings you had, and sometimes it'll desync, but sometimes it won't. It's as if there's a 50/50 chance of a desync. Usually it alternates between working and not working (jumping into the boss, that is). Maybe it has something to do with what screen is loaded when I replay the movie, but at this point I doubt it.

No, if I don't turn the border on before loading the game, or if the border is turned off when Bomberman gets to the boss, he jumps into the boss instead of bombing it. But thanks for explaining the bug.
