I'm more interested in how the NES "interlaces" every two frames it sends out. What's up with that?

The second game has 55 levels if you count the boss battle and the secret levels.

Yes, and even if the disclaimers did get rid of the people who think it's cheating, it's still annoying for people who already know what the movies are to look at. I personally get the same message out of that quick little screen that shows the re-record count. "Aha! Re-records! This was made using a special emulator that doesn't make saving and loading show up in the finished movie!" Of course, that also makes people more competitive, always trying not just to lower the time, but also to lower the number of re-records with better playing skill (and I thought the point was to get over real-time skill!).

Well, maybe the runs could be for separate games. So you would just need to set up a completed save file to be able to play the movies. Or, if you want to do a "full run", then yeah, you'd want to get 100% so you could earn The Arena. Everybody loves The Arena!

Are you talking about the ROM that doesn't show the title graphic for some reason?

Oh, cool. See, I figured out that Fceu DOES record movies--it's one of the many features that's for keyboard only and not accessible from the GUI. :P It just doesn't re-record correctly, that's all. What it needs to do is back up in the movie when you load a state saved during the movie. But you probably knew that already. The way it works now, it'll play the moves of your successful try AFTER your unsuccessful tries if you load a state during the movie and play it back.

Or how about the people who say "case and point"? The first thing that bothered me about the site was that the table of links didn't actually link to the runs of the respective games, but to a whole new page of the runs. And of course the "YOU MUST REGISTER! YOU MUST REGISTER!" screen.

Wait, I thought legit speed runs were called "speed runs" and illegitimate speed runs were called "time attacks"! Aaah! Hey, I've got an idea... Let's call them "illegit speedruns"! Because that is BADBUTT!

Try the second game. It's MUCH harder (and therefore more impressive?). I haven't played much of the third game, though.

If you want to play a Final Fantasy game, i'd go with FF3j for NES. You can find a patch or a prepatched version pretty easily. It is easily the best FF game for the NES, and probably the best RPG on the NES, too. Heck, I could say it's the best game for the NES.
Yes, yes... That game is quite similar to the first Final Fantasy, but about ten times more fun.

Although now that I think about it, it might actually be a good idea to compete with each other on attacking the times of individual levels in Lolo, because while the viewer wouldn't care so much if the video's slightly shorter, it would be fun to look for new ways to shave off time. And as always, it's a joy to watch the hero bravely storm the castle straight through and never once falter or be touched at all, rather than seeing him fail a dozen times on most of the levels and getting frustrated.

All I'm saying is that you'll never please everyone, so you might as well call the movies whatever the frick you want.

I hate the term "tool-assisted speed run" because it sounds like we're using wrenches and pliers.

I heard that you have to get into a certain exact position to do that, or it won't work.

You slow the game way down and push Left and Right really fast. Nothing special to it. It's just something to do to waste time.

Yeah, that's one thing I was thinking about. I want to choose things from menus as fast as possible, but the cursor may have some built-in delay that makes it so I have to wait until just the right time to push the button.
